25.01.2022 Heads up, people. Allanooka Nursery will be open 2pm to 5pm on Sunday. I will be attending the Shut the Gate Anti- Fracking breakfast in the morning.... Poisoned water will make my nursery plants and gardens and all the wildlife who have settled here, either sick or kill them. And my family is at risk too. I feel I need to do what ever I can to protect us all. See more

25.01.2022 Photo for attention only CORONA VIRUS COVID-19 STAY AT HOME #allanookanursery Hello Everyone, Plants/gardens/green spaces in general are considered a beneficial influence on #mental.health and for physical wellbeing. #Plants for eating and cooking and healing are essential. I have seeded and planted a variety of these, and they should be available for sale in 2-3 weeks time. All other plants such as nativ...e Australians plants and succulents are available, and I continue to propagate and grow them. The CORONA virus and COVID-19 have impacted ALLANOOKA NURSERY as well. Our main outlet through local markets is lost as the operations of local markets has been suspended. However, ALLANOOKA NURSERY is still OPEN with all the COVID-19 rules in place. Specifically, the 1.5 meter distancing between people and minimal handling of items. OPENING TIMES Saturday to Wednesday 9AM to-5pm For those of you who still would like to add to their plant families I am willing to DELIVER under the following conditions: #delivery conditions 1. 23.01.2022 Plants are good for your mental health. Many studies document this and I can testify to this from personal experience. I love Rhipsalis an epiphytic cactus originally growing in trees which they use as a support base. Hence filtered light and protected space indoor or outdoor. But no direct sun please. They are waterwise. Some grow fast, others do not. Most flower white. Some grow a profusion of slightly opaque berries that look like pearls. Great for hanging baskets and p...ots, wall pots in sheltered areas. All but 2 of offered species flower white. Prices from $10.- each. We are open Sat - Wed 9am to 5pm. COVID-19 rules apply. Delivery available. Conditions apply. #sheltered #filtered #waterwise #hanging #draping #wall #indoor #outdoor #easy #Rhipsalis

19.01.2022 Hello everyone I was hoping to be at the Greenough Markets on Sunday - tomorrow. As the temperature forecast for tomorrows Greenough Market is for nearly 40degrees Centigrade I am not going to be at the market. ... Moving plants on the open trailer exposes them to sun and windburn and then moving them to display them means changing their orientation to the sun which during the recent hot spells has caused sunburn in some of the plants here at the nursery. To reduce stress and injury to the plants we will be staying home. Sorry if should cause disappointment and/or inconvenience. The Allanooka Nursery will be open. We will be up and about well before official opening time of 9am. Feel free to visit as soon as our gate is open .

18.01.2022 Part project finished. 1. Weeding in sales area complete - phew! 2. Repotted my Agaves into plastic pots as the older ones were totally root bound. We needed all the tools and tricks of the gardening and building trades to remove them out of their pots. That was hard work. I did like them in those yellow and orange glazed pots though ... 3. Planted my Euphorbia collection into my favourite blue glazed pots and moved former residents to other homes and pots. The large Penci...l Cactus and Sticks on fire have a new home near the entrance now ... 4. Repotted most of the low fired clay pot residents into different pots and planted a selection of very different Kalanchoes into the ball shaped clay pots. 5. Rearranged all the clay and glazed pots so you can appreciate the plant genus and diversity of the species. I find the diversity within each genus of plants absolutely amazing and at times mindboggling ... 6. Rearranged the plants for sale, priced and named individual pots for sale ... Oh, and the gardens are waking up and many plants are flowering. Visit and have a wander and wonder at nature's diversity!

12.01.2022 Always looking to improve things. This is the newest trial for display and sale. Constructive comments welcome. I have some healthy spider plants (Chlorophytum) in green and striped who ate bursting their 15cm pots. They are looking for a new home and 2 will go for $10.- They prefer indirect light and are waterwise. They look beautiful in a hanging basket or wall pot and in an ordinary pot. I would not plant them in the garden because if you change your mind later you will have a hard time digging them up ...

11.01.2022 Yucca gloriosa or Silver Sword, Spanish dagger. This glorious specimen has flowered without fail every season sometimes with more than one flower spike. Its leaves are like daggers and protect the plant well. This one has a bluish tinge in his leaves with silvery stripes and is branched out. He has needed little maintenance in the last 5-6 years I had the pleasure of his presence and flowers as he stays compact and few leaves needed removing. He is water wise once established and is growing in sandy soil in company of other yucca species and agaves with a gumtree nearby. So part shade is ok. I have only 2 specimen left and both are about a year old. 5L pot for $15.50. No holds.

09.01.2022 This beautys suspected id is Disocactus macranthus (Psydorhipsalis macrantus) Originally from Oaxaca Mexico. She has highly perfumed flowers and flat elongated leaves. She does well in wall pots/baskets or hanging baskets in a sheltered spot with indirect sunlight. She is waterwise once established. I water her once a week. Her offspring via cuttings are now established and all have buds and/or flowers. Their sizes vary as do the prices.... Our nursery is OPEN Sat - Wed 9-5. COVID-19 restrictions in place. DELIVERY available. Conditions apply. #disocactusmacrantus #rhipsalis #epiphytic #trailing #hanging #sheltered #waterwise #indoor #outdoor #perfumed #easycare

08.01.2022 Wandering through my garden enjoying it instead of working in it ...

07.01.2022 Wandering my gardens and loving the cheerful bright blooms all around. Enjoy!

07.01.2022 How long is a piece of STRING OF 1. Arrows (Cotyledon papillaris string form) 2. Ruby Necklace ... (Othonna capensis) 3. Grey Dolphins (Senecio peregrinus) 4. Lemons/Tears (Curio citriformis, Senecio herreianus) 5. Variegated Pearls (Senecio rowleanus) 6. Green Pearls (Senecio rowleanus) 7. Bananas/Fishhooks (Senecio radicans)? I guess that depends on several factors. Position, light, food, company, water and age. I remember a specimen of String of Pearls from my childhood that was endlessly branched and up to a meter long. It was living in our living room next to the windows without direct sun shine ... Nowadays I have several different species and all are growing in wall pots in part-shade of my shade house. I water them when they are almost dry but avoid keeping them wet. In summer that means watering every 2 to 3 days and in winter depending on weather and rain once a week or so. I have them in a variety of soil from comercial potting mixes to home mixes of 2/3 sand. Free draining is the key. I feed them blood and bone every 3 month or so or give them slow release fertiliser. What I just read is that they are toxic - one of many many plants we surround ourselves with - and therefore should be kept out of reach of youngsters, pets and lifestock. I believe awareness and education of your loved ones and care in selection of positioning will keep all concerned happy and safe. I have several different species for sale. We have COVID-19 restrictions in place. We are open Sat to Wed 9 to 5pm Please toot your horn as you come up to the house so I can meet you at the sales area.

03.01.2022 This is my Hoya kerri variegated in bloom. She is a tough old girl who moved twice with me and is well over 10 years old. She spent most of her life in a 5 L red metal watering can with drainage holes in the bottom. Now she lives in a blue glazed pot with climbing mesh in my shadehouse and is very happy. She is one of several species of hoya and the others live in 5L wall pots and trail down the corrugated wall and flower loyally every year. I feed them with slow release ge...neral purpose fertilizer as well as blood and bone. I water them every few days and they are thriving. So much so that I have trouble keeping their branches separate . I have been busy propagating some of my hoya species and a limited number of plants are for sale in 14cm pots for $13.- each. I have opened up the nursery propagation area visually so you can see what is growing at the moment and to view my mother plants around the edges of my work and grow areas. There are succulents and cacti as well as native plants in tube stock. A lot of them are ready for sale and in the sales area. I have started to propagate plants for shade and protected areas such as syngonium an ferns. They are increasing in variety and numbers for you to see and buy. I love to share plant growing information with you and try to inspire creativity in growing your plants at home. Allanooka Nursery is open this week end 9am to 5pm. So why not have a snoop and a yack?

02.01.2022 Tiny motorbike frog in my propagation shade house. Our nursery will be closed tomorrow Saturday, 17 October 2020. I am attending a session by NACC on Black Cockatoos tomorrow to learn more about them as they are roosting here on our property for months before moving on to breed.... I am sorry for any inconvenience caused.

02.01.2022 I would like to say "thank you" to the person/s who gifted us this collection of interesting cups with a variety of succulents! They are now well taken care of with a soaking over night and potting on into fresh potting mix and larger pots. Please make yourself known - when you visit us next time - so we can say thank you in person.
