19.01.2022 Today for our #storyoftheweek we are reading "Giraffes can't dance" by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker Rees. It's a beautiful story all about our individual differences and how sometimes moments happen that help us to remember how we are all special in our own unique way! We are adding some key word signs using individual Auslan signs and as you can see Danika is following along with the story using an English grammar. There might be some new signs you've learnt or some old ones to practice! Don't forget to comment if you have a favourite story you'd like to see.

This story is a dial-a-wheel book- you have to turn the wheel to find the right answer to the clues. It's a great way to engage children! Reading strategies- You'll see Danika adopting some great reading strategies throughout this story including:... Questioning - you might like to ask questions throughout the story to gauge if your child understands the content Pausing - when asking questions make sure you pause to give your child an opportunity to share their answer before providing the correct one Memory recall - try also asking a few questions about the story when you've finished. Can your child share information about what happened? Can they retell events in the correct sequence? Early language begins through imitation this might be imitating sounds but it also involves imitating actions and mouth movements just like this lovely one in the video! When a baby starts copying your actions or mouth movements - think of clapping, waving, blowing raspberries, kisses- it’s telling us they are ready to start copying sounds too which is all part of early language How amazing is that!
