24.01.2022 Determination: a quality that makes you continue trying to do or achieve something that is difficult (~ google) That’s the word that came to my mind after today’s class. Since March we continue to come together in our Zoom and FB live sessions to work out together and to stay in touch with each other. Sometimes I am on my own and sometimes I have lovely people joining me. We got creative and used what we have at home from chairs to tables, sofas and tv stands Since March w...e supported our children with learning from home, motivated our partners, wife’s and husbands and ourselves to not give up but to stay strong. We all have it in us, let’s not forget that. 12.01.2022 "Choose to be optimistic, it feels better" by Dalai Lama I know its not as easy as it sounds right now, especially after Sundays announcement, having our hopes of a bit more freedom (maybe 10km instead of 5km cough cough) and a slow return to a life outside of our 4 walls been crushed. To be quite honest with you I was not ok and I felt very angry, frustrated, sad and demoralised. But staying in that negative mindset does not help my family, my friends, students and myself. ...I think its important to allow those feelings but we also need to remember that nothing lasts forever and we will get through it. Now I know my family has been quite lucky as we are healthy, we haven't lost any friends or family members due to Covid, my husband is still working and we have a roof over our heads. But there are so many families, single parents, single households who are not doing so well at the moment so lets acknowledge that and be kind to one another. Tate, a friend and fellow Pilates teacher has started a campaign with Liptember to raise funds and awareness for womens mental health during the month of September. If you would like to contribute or learn more about it as to how you can show your support please visit the website: https://www.liptember.com.au/t/tatehopkinsonsteam Please check on your friends and give them a call, most often people try to deal with it themselves and don't reach out on their own. There is light at the end of the tunnel and with Spring and Summer coming up, we can hopefully start some Pilates classes outside at the beach or in the park. 10.01.2022 Be positive and focus on the things you can do We started our morning with a Barre class (aka the chair since lockdown ) and a small part of the class was working on our balance and hips. The last couple of weeks we practiced the exercises on the mat, so doing them standing with a chair was a challenge. As you can see I wobbled quite a bit when taking the hand off the chair. You might wonder why we should work on our balance and the number one reason would be the pre...vention of injury as well as reducing the risk of falls as we become older. 04.01.2022 Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Words from Jo Pilates which really resonate with me. Having been in the pain bubble and coming out of it and continuing to put the work in to be able to move without pain was super frustrating and it took me quite some time to be where I am now. Walking and moving without pain again. I am also a better listener when my body tells me it’s enough;-) So studying more about the human body, injuries, pain, how we move etc is ...fascinating. Today’s workshop about lower back pain with Brent Andersson from @polestarpilates @pilatesanytimeus was fantastic and reassuring, plus it’s always good to keep the brain stimulated PE Session in the backyard for Paula and a choc chip cookie baking demonstration from Mia @mia.w_6 in the afternoon.
