23.01.2022 CORPS BIRTHDAY 2019 - BRISBANE It is that time of the year again when all soldier musicians have the chance to catch up with one and other to embellish stories ...from yesteryear. Roll Call for all current and ex-serving soldier musicians will be held at the Gaythorne RSL from 1300 h, Saturday 3 August 2019. If you would like to make a day of it please take advantage of the club bistro for lunch prior to moving up stairs for the function. You are advised to make a booking if you plan to have lunch on (07) 3355 6781. Please disseminate this information far and wide, and I look forward to catching up with all of you on the day.

22.01.2022 From the outset, I am in NO WAY trying to defend this LNP candidate if he has intentionally done this. However, this type of mistake is easy to make. I would c...onsider myself well qualified to comment on this issue as I have been heavily involved in the ceremonial aspects of Army during my 40 years service and have managed the honours and awards chapter in the Army Dress Manual for the last 12 years. I have owned a medal mounting business for 25 years and often receive orders to supply and mount medals for current serving and ex-service personnel. I consistently have to clarify which medals clients are after, even for those pers who have served for many years, as they often request and make reference to the wrong medal. The post I shared this from was itself incorrect as it refers to the candidate claiming the 'Distinguished Service Medal' where in actual fact you will find the medal referred to in the article attached to this post, is the 'Australian Service Medal'. There is a huge difference between the eligibility criteria of the two medals mentioned above. This is a perfect example of how easy it is to confuse awards because of the similar naming conventions used. Maybe in this case we could exercise some restraint, possibly accept his explanation and resist the temptation to enact the 'Tall Poppy Syndrome'.

22.01.2022 The last few months have been extremely busy. Juggling work on the presentation of the new Army Banner in Canberra, with medal mounting, framing and regimental duties back here in Brisbane has been quite challenging. Nevertheless, the backlog is finally under control and l am looking forward to commemorating ANZAC Day with my mates.... As is too often the case l continue to receive poorly mounted medals, many glued to the backing board, which are difficult to dismantle without damaging them any further. I have attached an example of 'before, during and after' pics of a set of medals as l resurrected them. The owner was extremely happy with the end result. I have also attached pics of some of my work from the last few months. Remember our fallen and our Service personnel past and present this ANZAC Day. Lest We Forget.

22.01.2022 Happy new year. Work is already rolling in for 2019, and l look forward to continuing to provide the high standard of production and customer service that you have grown to expect over the last 25 years. I am often called upon to provide advice and information on honours and awards, protocols related to the order of wearing those awards and other ceremonial protocols. I am always happy to assist with any queries that you may have, so please feel free to ask. As a consequence l will start to post pertinent information in relation to the above at various times, so please keep an eye out.

21.01.2022 AUSTRALIAN ARMY BAND CORPS BIRTHDAY A reminder that Corps Birthday will be celebrated at the Gaythorne RSL on Saturday 03 Aug 19. Details below.

19.01.2022 I have seen some very poorly mounted medals in my time, but l think these take the cake. I don't think l can even start to guess as to how these have been done. A 'cardboardish' sort of base wrapped with some felt, lots of super glue, half a plastic ruler tacked on with gaffa tape and a bandaid (the bandaid wasn't helping ha ha) suspended from very fragile pins. I think the ruler was an attempt by the poor owner to add some rigidity to the group. It is very concerning that Service personnel pay good money for work like this. An updated sitrep on this medal group. The owner picked up his medals today and was vey happy with the transition.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to all those who were recognised in the Australia Day 2019 Honours List.

16.01.2022 UPDATE: Medals Have been found and returned and NO THE REWARD was not taken. Thanks to this wonderful community for caring and sharing. ******* LOST VIETNAM M...EDALS REWARD IF FOUND! $500 Southport, Queensland LOST VIETNAM MEDALS! $500 REWARD IF FOUND - Southport location Today at the Southport Anzac service from 4.00am - 12pm my pop has lost his medals, He did the March at both dawn and morning, he has been at the Southport RSL after the dawn service, then caught a bus (the rsl prepared, not just a casual bus) back to the morning service. We have searched everywhere he has been, we have spoken to the RSL as he is well known there and is apart of the club, we have spoken to Southport police, the bus drivers have checked there busses and still can’t be found so we are thinking someone has picked them up. If anyone has seen them, or has them or know someone who does could you please message me, hand them to the Southport rsl or Southport police. Also if you could please share this post would be much appreciated. We are so upset and just want his medals back. Below is a photo of his Medals PLEASE EVERYONE SHARE EVERYWHERE See more

13.01.2022 I have been using this 3M double coated tape in my medal mounting business for 25 years and it is an extremely effective product. But it certainly hits home when you walk away from your supplier with a box of 24 rolls of 'sticky tape' that has cost you more than you can purchase a new 70" 4K UHD Smart TV for........

11.01.2022 Things are starting to get extremely busy as we approach ANZAC Day. I find myself back and forth to Canberra a fair bit at the moment which provides its own challenges. Here are a few ribbon bars l will be dropping off in Canberra.

11.01.2022 After 12 hours l have finally finished this group of 11 medals. Now l can start on my next job, a group of 14 medals.

10.01.2022 Sadly, l have been left with yet another medal group that symbolises significant service to country by their proud recipient, that have sustained considerable defacing and, in some places irreparable damage from the use of adhesive. It is a practice used by some businesses because of its time saving advantages, that shortcut more appropriate preparation and fastening techniques. The result of this practice is clearly evident in these photos. ... When this practice was first discovered the Army Dress Manual was amended to prohibit any form of glue, adhesive or hot glue from being applied to medal surfaces to protect members original medals. I only wish l could name the business involved. That said, this is not the only business that uses these techniques. It makes me so angry to see this, because not only is getting your medals mounted a very expensive venture, it is a total lack of regard for someone else's property and respect for their service. Please ask when dropping medals off to businesses whether the above practice is used

09.01.2022 I have just finished production and my last frame for the year so that's a wrap for 2018. It is now time for a well earned beer and a bit of relaxation. Thank you all for your support during the year and l wish you all a happy and successful 2019. Happy New Year

08.01.2022 As we get closer to ANZAC Day many of us will need to have our medals remounted. Please do yourselves a favour and ensure whoever mounts your medals does not use any form of adhesive or hot glue to hold your medals in place. Damage is often done to medals when dismantling the set for remounting because of the force required to dislodge them. Many are unaware that their medals have been glued down until they receive an additional charge to replace medals broken during the remounting process. Make sure you ask those mounting your medals if they use glue and if so please go somewhere else. Here is another example of medals glued together. Every medal so far has suffered some stress damage while trying to dislodge them and will now spend the night in a jar of De-Solv-It in an attempt to remove the glue.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to all those recognised for their outstanding contribution to the community and service within the Australian Defence Force in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours List. Especially to those l have served with: Major General Adam Findlay, AM appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) Colonel Nick Foxall, AM awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) and Warrant Officer Class One Virginia Morris awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). Also to Lieutenant Colonel Steve Chamarette (Retd) awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for his great work in the veteran community.

07.01.2022 2019 was another huge year at the medal desk and in the framing shed. Finding enough hours to combine my two passions of running my business and serving with the Band of the 1st Regiment Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery is often challenging but extremely rewarding. My main focus is to provide qualified advice to my customers so they in turn can make decisions that best suit their needs. 2020 is off to a tragic start as Australia burns and my heart goes out to those affected by these horrific bushfires. We will move forward as a nation and we will look after our mates as we do.

06.01.2022 GREAT NEWS I received a call yesterday from the owner of the stolen original medals, which were the subject of the story below. He wanted to let me know that when he arrived home the other day he found his stolen medals thrown up against his balcony door. Maybe he was one of the 119,000 people that saw this original post and had an attack of the guilts or.....couldn't sell them. I am very pleased the medals have been returned. ... STOLEN MEDALS...!!!!! It is disturbing and very concerning that l pass on the news of the theft of a veteran's original medals. The medals of Warrant Officer Class One Tim Langston were stolen from his home in the Brisbane area. His name, and a combination of either of the following numbers are engraved on the edge or rear panel of the medals: 186200 or, 8221358 I would ask you all to keep an eye out for these medals which are identical to the medal group shown in this photo. Please be vigilant and keep your own medals safe.

04.01.2022 Respect: Ordinary Seaman Teddy Sheean has today been recommended for the posthumous award of the Victoria Cross for Australia, Australia's pre-eminent award for valour, 78 years after the action in which he made the supreme sacrifice for his ship mates. On 1 December 1942, HMAS Armidale started to sink after being torpedoed and bombed by the Japanese. The order to abandon ship was given and Ordinary Seaman Teddy Sheean assisted in the launch of a life-raft. Despite being wou...nded by two bullets he remained on board and made his way to the aft 20mm cannon. Teddy started firing on the Japanese aircraft to protect his mates, bringing down one bomber before he was killed when the Armidale sank. Many of the survivors credited their lives to his actions and he was posthumously mentioned in despatches. Teddy's award of the Victoria Cross for Australia will be the first Victoria Cross awarded to a member of the Royal Australian Navy. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest We Forget

04.01.2022 A very busy 24 hours as l finish up this order to send overseas on Monday.

04.01.2022 After a three week Army Exercise to the top of Australia with the Band of the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, performing for residents in many remote and indigenous communities throughout Far North Queensland and Cape York, production is again underway. I am steadily making progress on the backlog of medals and frames created after being away for such a long period of time. The highlight of our exercise was the opportunity we had to perform for the kids in these far away places, who loved the live music and chance to interact with us. Enjoy the attached images from FNQ, combined with a glimpse from my medal desk tonight.

02.01.2022 Started this medal group of 14 medals yesterday. Progress has been made during the day today but quite a few hours of work still to go.

02.01.2022 ANZAC Day has come and gone and after a few days away and some time sorting through the administrative requirements of the business l am right back into it. I have been working on this medal group of 16 medals over the last few days. Still another couple of days before they are ready to leave my desk.

02.01.2022 The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone... Happy 51st birthday to all current and ex-serving members of the Australian Army Band Corps.
