22.01.2022 WARNING! Is your home a Death Trap? Have you protected your Family?... Did you know 73% of the deaths due to electrocution by electric current occurred in the home, according to AHIW website. Statistics released by the Australian Government website, AHIW 2019 has said a total of 1065 people were hospitalised between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2016 had sustained an electrical injury and unfortunately a total of 55 people died as a result of electrocution. What Is a Safety Switch? A safety switch is a device that attaches to your home's circuit breaker. It monitors the flow of the electric current and shuts off your power if it detects any discrepancies. For example, if you are using a hairdryer and drop it in the sink or bath, the safety switch will almost instantaneously shut down the power to your bathroom to prevent you from electrocuting yourself. Similarly, if you were working with power tools in your garage and accidentally cut into the power cord for the device, the safety switch would kill the power once again. Is it law to have a Safety Switch? By law, safety switches protecting power points and lighting circuits must be installed in all new homes and in buildings where electrical circuits are altered or added. This law was introduced into Australia in 1991, so if your home was built before this time, it may not be protected by a safety switch. Is a Safety Switch Really Necessary? It’s like driving a car without wearing a seat belt or allowing your child to ride their bike without a helmet. So ask yourself, would you take a chance? Think about what could happen. Your house could burn down or your child could easily get electrocuted, resulting in serious injury or even death. Is that a risk you're willing to take? I know I wouldn’t take the risk for my family. Don’t delay, ring now: All Electrics Melbourne on 8719 8776 to have a safety switch installed today and make sure your loved ones are kept safe as possible.

21.01.2022 Did you know solar panels can be a fire risk? Do you have Solar Panels installed on your roof..? Then you are putting your family at RISK!... Are you aware there’s been an increasing number of reports about solar-related fires across Australia? These stories have prompted concern about the safety of poorly installed solar power systems in homes. In 2016, Renew, a not for profit organisation, commissioned a report into the fire risk of solar PV systems. They found a significant number of residential fires in Australia were linked with solar PV systems. According to the report, the highest known cause of solar-related fires was determined to be an unspecified electrical component of the solar PV system. As part of the study, a survey of Australian based solar installers was conducted and it was found that over 60% of these installers indicated that rooftop DC isolators were a primary cause of solar related fires in Australia. DC isolators are switches that are found on the side of solar panels. Australian Standards require that solar PV systems with inverters have a rooftop DC isolator installed. However, due to the location of the DC isolator on the roof, they are exposed to harsh weather conditions and this can lead to the breakdown of the system. Infiltration of water into the DC isolator can cause circuit shorts and increase fire risks. So should I be concerned? Absolutely! It’s important to note that the safety of solar systems can be considered just like any other electrical component in your home. They need to be inspected. So ask yourself, would you take a chance? Think about what could happen. Your house could burn down resulting in serious injury or even the death of your family. Is this a risk you're willing to take? I know I wouldn’t take the risk for my family. Don’t delay, ring now: All Electrics Melbourne on 8719 8776 to have your Solar Panels inspected today to make sure your loved ones are kept safe as possible.

11.01.2022 WARNING! DOES YOUR HOME HAVE THESE NON-COMPLIANT ELECTRICAL CABLES? Thousands of homes across Australia are at risk of catching fire as a result of faulty, non-compliant electrical cables installed, the consumer watchdog warns. ... Testing has found that these cables will degrade prematurely, and if disturbed the insulation could break, exposing live conductors, resulting in electric shock or house fires. Authorities believe the faulty cables have been used in as many as 40,000 homes and businesses across Australia between 2010 and 2013. It’s known that all sizes and configurations of the white TPS (Thermoplastic - sheathed) and orange round infinity mains power cables failed safety tests based on inferior plastic insulation coatings. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says, Infinity and Olsent cable ranges were sold through 18 retail groups including Masters, Thrifty and Mitre10, are extremely dangerous and could easily spark fires. It's regular electrical wiring for anything - it could be for all your lighting, power points, air conditioning, the oven or hot water installation. It's important that if you've had work done, to contact All Electrics Melbourne for a safety check. If you've done any work yourself, you’ll also need to get the work you’ve completed safety checked. Those unsure about who installed the previous wiring job in their home or business should arrange for a licensed electrical contractor to inspect the wiring. Don’t delay, ring now: All Electrics Melbourne on 8719 8776 to have your cables inspected today to make sure your loved ones are kept as safe as possible.
