11.01.2022 Playing songs at "face value" can lead to a lot of struggles and frustrations... To avoid thoughts of 'It's too hard, next,' or 'I quit!' do this... Break the song down into a small chunk (one measure if you need to)... And simplify! Stow the tempo down... Strum the chord once... Do something easy and manageable to play along with the song at your current skill level. If you'd like some help to break the song down so you can win, I'm here for you. Simply ask me how by commenting below with the song you're playing. Until next time... Stay safe and play well Allen

04.01.2022 Okay, break it up! Hey It's Allen here Songs have a lot of moving parts.... And learning and playing them all together, is often overwhelming So I want to tell you to break it up... Instead of working on the entire verse for example... Break it up into 4 measures long... 4 chords... Or even 2 chords or 2 measures. The smaller the better... Doing this will keep your brain focused and the overwhelm right down. Break the song up into chunks. Chunks that are small enough, like eating one bite of pizza at a time. If you're not sure how to do this, comment below with the song you're playing and where you're having trouble. I'll break it up into a game you're guaranteed to win so you can play the song in less time Take care and talk soon, Allen

04.01.2022 When you first start out to play a new song on your guitar, what should you learn first? The strumming pattern? The chords? Or the song lyrics so you can sing along? To make sure your song sounds great from the very first beat, get the chords down first...... Why? Because if the chord changes are not clean, or you cannot remember what the next chord in the progression is, anything you do with the strumming hand, is really going to make that stand out - a lot! Start simply. Start easily... Chords first - no strumming patterns and definitely no lyrics - yet!
