20.01.2022 Update on activities that I have been involved with over the last week. Just a reminder that all the work I have been doing is on a volunteer basis. I’m also funding my own campaign, signage and materials. This way I remain independent and can offer fair representation to all voters. 1) Whitsundays Shark Control Working Group - Inaugural Full Day Workshop on 4 March. There is a lot of activity underway or planned. I’m working with Scientists, Queensland Fisheries, Water Polic...e, Recreational Fishers, Traditional Owners, Marine Parks and Tourism Operators. Of most interest is that 43 sharks have been tagged. Around the Whitsundays we have 20 probes in the water. Every time a tagged shark travels within 500 metres of a probe the movement is recorded. By April-May Fisheries will be rolling out a community awareness program called Shark Smart. This week training is underway for marine crews to manage a Severe Bleed. All charter yachts are being provided with Severe Bleed kits as part of the first aid supplies. In April the data from the 20 probes will be analysed by the scientists with a report on the shark movements provided. We plan on extending this research, including locating probes in Repulse Bay or the Proserpine River.. We are also seeking detailed site assessments at high use bays around the Whitsundays so we have better understanding of the environment, fish stocks, mega fauna, coral health, seabed makeup, sediment loads and water quality. All this work should help inform better policy around bag limits and fisheries policies. 2) On Friday I met with the Federal Tourism Minister, Hon Simon Birmingham. We discussed slowing of visitor numbers, economic impacts, decline in Backpackers to Airlie, impacts of government policy on working holiday visitation and changes that could improve visitor numbers. Since the meeting I have followed up with a letter to the minister seeking support for marketing and suggested policy changes to make Australia more competitive. 3) Today meeting with Council CEO and Economic Development team, and Whitsunday Charter Boat Industry Association to discuss development of a DAMA (designated area management agreement) for the Whitsundays. This would allow marine tourism operators, island resorts and local accommodation houses to sponsor Backpackers for positions which are hard to fill, eg.deck hands, chefs, house keeping, waiters. Hope you have seen my signs around. I have to say while I’m super comfortable at presenting to huge audiences, it is extremely embarrassing seeing my face on the signs. 17.01.2022 Having lived in the Whitsundays for 22 years, across divisions 1, 2 & 3 I have a strong understanding of the community from Proserpine to Cannonvale, to Airlie to the Islands. We are fortunate to be a community diverse in heritage and origin, with many moving into the Whitsundays due to the common love of the islands, the reef, the pace of life and the sense of community. I tend to think strategically, big picture and where can we be as a community if all our dreams could be ...met, including creating new industries, supporting and growing existing and providing local educational opportunites for our kids. As a local councillor, the roads, rubbish, parks and services are critical and as issues arise I will advocate on behalf of the division. I have a strong sense of community and have volunteered on numerous committee and organisations over the last 20 years. Authorized By A Grundy

15.01.2022 It is a busy time getting the materials together for the campaign while still working to advance our region. 1) Today started with a meeting with Tas Webber from Mackay Tourism and Tash Wheeler from Tourism Whitsundays. This meeting was about co-operative marketing opportunities and sharing resources to reduce duplication and minimise costs across Mackay and the Whitsundays. 2) Onto a meeting with the Mayor and Council CEO to discuss the development of tourism and events for... the region. 3) At 2pm a meeting with State Opposition Deputy Leader Tim Mander and Amanda Camm (State Candidate Mackay) to discuss current economic situation with the impact of the Coronavirus on local businesses and how the LNP may be able to advocate for government assistance programs. 4) Next a meeting with Matt Boileau to discuss the Destination Tourism Plan and alignment of the plan to Economic Development and investment opportunities. 5) Phone conversation this afternoon with Peter Santos, who is seeking support to introduce an Indigenous Tourism experience in Airlie Beach, including the making of Didgeridoos using traditional methods. This experience will be terrific when Cruise Ships are in town as the visitors will be able to watch. This type of experience is important, particularly as this year is the year of Indigenous Tourism. Every meeting I attended today was on a voluntary basis, including travelling from Whitsunday Gold, to Port of Airlie, to Tourism Whitsundays Office in Cannonvale. Tomorrow is the inaugural meeting of the Whitsundays Shark Control Working Group... stay tuned. I want to be transparent and let every supporter of mine know that my family moved to Proserpine 6 months ago. We lived in Woodwark for 17 years and still own Property in Woodwark. We pay rates in Division 2. The role of a councillor is clear, the first responsibility is to represent the region. The second, is to the division (this does not mean that the local division issues are not important). My view is that every family and every person in our region is important, we all want the best outcomes for our families and to advance our community to be the best we can be. 15.01.2022 The Economic Development strategy paper will be on web next week for review and comment, please take the time to have a read and council welcomes feedback/input.

12.01.2022 More than ever, Strong Leadership is what the Whitsundays needs. Before you vote, please ensure that you know who may be sitting behind a candidate. I remain independent and will not be directed by any political party or lobby group. If you want a strong independent leader, please vote 1 for Al Grundy. Authorised by A.Grundy (candidate) 2 Renwick Rd Proserpine.

11.01.2022 Great to see crews from the Charter Industry receiving training from Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) in First Aid with a focus on Severe Bleeds. This training is one of the initiatives to come from our Shark Working Group and is being funded by Queensland DAF. This is the type of work I do, not only advocating for the industry, but also sitting on the working groups to achieve real outcomes for this community. Special shout out to Sharon Smallwood from the Whitsunday Chart...er Boat Industry Association who has co-ordinated the training this week and is ensuring that all Commercial Charter Yachts and all the Bareboats of the Whitsundays have the Severe Bleed kits. It should give piece of mind to locals and visitors to the marine park that so many of our commercial operators are receiving relevant training from industry professionals. Authorized by A. Grundy (Candidate) 2 Renwick Rd Proserpine.

09.01.2022 Happy Friday Whitsunday Coast Airport (WCA) has certainly come a long way from the old days of Proserpine Airport. WCA is now recognised as one of Australia’...s fastest growing regional airports and is on track to smash the 500,000 annual passenger barrier despite on-going border closures. Mayor Andrew Willcox said another milestone was reached this week when a record-breaking 44 flights touched down. With NSW and Victoria still locked out of Queensland this is an amazing effort by our airport team. Just last week we welcomed a new route and new airline with Skytrans flights to Cairns and Rockhampton plus the return of Qantas the flying kangaroo to WCA after a 17 year absence. Increased flights puts more bums on seats and bodies in beds to support our Whitsunday region tourism and business stakeholders who have endured some difficult times in recent years, he said. #ourwhitsunday

06.01.2022 The new Flagstaff Hill Cultural & Conference Centre in Bowen is taking shape, with works expected to be completed in October. With 360-degree views of the Bowen... hinterland, Whitsunday Islands and Coral Sea, the new building will cater for up to 200 patrons, containing a café, kitchen, gift shop and an amphitheatre. With sections of floor to ceiling glass, the new building makes the most of the fantastic 360-degree views from Flagstaff Hill. The project is funded by Whitsunday Regional Council, the Queensland Government's Building Our Regions program and jointly by the Queensland and Australian Governments’ Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Program as part of the recovery measures for the region post ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie. #ourwhitsunday

03.01.2022 Great win for Business - After advocating at many meetings and writing to the Ministers in Canberra, George Christensen MP arranged a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Entsch MP and Minister Keith Pitt. One of the points I reinforced was to waive the Environment Management Charge (EMC) to help marine tourism businesses through the current downturn and coronavirus challenge. I was able to clearly demonstrate how the EMC fees here in the Whitsundays have a very di...fferent financial impact to our tour operators & any kind of waiver would be a welcomed reprieve. Today the Government waived all payments of the EMC until the end of this year. The Environment Minister met with us to make the announcement. If we can support business to keep doors open through the tough times, it is a lot better than having the queue grow at Centrelink. 02.01.2022 Today I Chaired a special meeting of the Tourism Whitsundays board. In light of the current situation for our tourism industry and the associated retail and supply chains, the board has waived 6 months of membership fees. This is a fluid situation and the board will meet as required to reconsider options moving forward. See this link https://mailchi.mp//media-release-the-whitsundays-celebrat for more information on today’s meeting. Authorised by A.Grundy (Candidate) 2 Renwick Rd Proserpine 4800

02.01.2022 Please if you have the time take a couple of minutes to do this survey. It is the first time it has been done locally.

02.01.2022 The ECQ today advised that the candidates may no longer be at the Pre-poll. This is a wise decision based on the current situation. Today until 5pm, then from Monday to Friday next week you may still vote at the old Post Office in Cannonvale Shopping Centre. Otherwise vote on the 28th at the Polling Centres. If you have any questions please ask!

02.01.2022 Hi everyone- I will be at old Post Office in Cannonvale while election pre-poll is on. If you are shopping drop in to say hi.

02.01.2022 Finally after 22 days I have been declared as Division 2 Councillor for the Whitsundays. Thank you to everyone who has offered support throughout the campaign and your vote. We have a massive task ahead of us as a council with the current economic situation. I assure you that I will work hard to help with our recovery and to advance our region. Once again thanks.

02.01.2022 With voting now open, I would like to remind all that I’m funding my own campaign and remain independent. I cannot highlight enough to voters that being independent allows me to represent all voters fairly, without my position being compromised. Please ensure you know who may be behind the candidate you are about to vote for. I would like to let everyone know a couple of my key objectives. For the last year I have been concerned about the slow down in the economy, which has p...layed out with less tourists and more recently the slowing of the building sector. With Coronavirus now escalating and global markets in turmoil, I’m extremely concerned for tourism and how we get through the next few months. A major decline in tourism will ripple right through division 1 and 2, not only direct to tourism operators and accommodation providers, but also retail and tourism support services. It will place extra demand on our welfare providers. However, once we are through the current period, I would like to see a strategy for growth and innovation across the Whitsunday Region, working with leaders from the economic pillars of tourism, agriculture and resources and the local Chambers of Commerce. This should help us with further planning of major infrastructure projects directed to population growth, which will then lead to the addition of services. For example, lobbying the State Government to purchase land for a future high school in the Cannonvale or Cannon Valley area. Another dream.... With the Whitsunday Islands right on our doorstep we could be the global centre of excellence for inshore reef systems. With this comes an upgrade to university level education, possibly in the Cannonvale TAFE building, plus research programs and innovative restoration projects working with scientific leaders. This will create exciting new jobs in marine tourism and marine biology and diversify into new tourism experiences. Imagine our kids being able to seek further education right here in Cannonvale which leads to new jobs from our catchments to the islands and the reef. Education is a valuable export commodity and from the Whitsundays we could export experience to the world, while inviting the world to come and learn right here! Please come and see me at the Pre-poll, located at the old Post Office in the Cannonvale Shopping Centre. Reminder that you can vote today, no need to wait until the 28th. Authorised by: Al Grundy (Candidate) 2 Renwick Rd Proserpine.

01.01.2022 Our community leaders and health professionals all agree that vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against the impacts of CO...VID-19, including serious illness or death from the virus. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine means getting back to our pre-COVID lifestyles quicker. Combined with COVID-19 safe behaviours, vaccines give us the best chance of keeping our Whitsunday community and businesses open and doing more of the things we enjoy. The more people who receive a COVID-19 vaccine, the safer we will all be. Let’s protect each other, especially the most vulnerable members of our community, so we can keep doing the things we love.
