25.01.2022 Reggie our Recycling Mascot finished the summer festival season on a high last weekend

23.01.2022 Three of the nine Similan Islands are sea turtle conservation zones. We captured these photos this week just 70 kms from the islands at the Thup Lamu Pier where boats transport hundreds of tourists to the islands every day for six months of the year.

22.01.2022 Michelle and Alex are travelling through Latin America checking out how litter and waste is managed here.

20.01.2022 Johnston Street Fiesta! Come on down and see Alex and Michelle in action with the festival's fabulous traders. We are back again diverting huge volumes of trader food scraps and recyclables from landfill for the 7th year!

19.01.2022 Road trip with this little lady on board. #wasteaudit

17.01.2022 It has been another very pleasant weekend in Melbourne and Alex and Michelle have been collecting, categorising and counting litter across the suburbs. This photo is an example of litter removed from a very small section of a children's playground. Would you like to play amongst this load of litter?

17.01.2022 Our audit crew are passionate, motivated and bursting with girl power.

16.01.2022 The early morning frost and hundreds of frozen bin lids did not dampen our enthusiasm as we rolled out another exciting education program.

16.01.2022 Michelle and Alex are taking a short holiday in and around Exmouth W.A and were excited to find the community driven ban on plastic bags but are somewhat shocked to discover there is no recycling service. What to do???

16.01.2022 Our composting and worm farming master classes are fully booked out and Michelle is looking forward to getting her hands dirty with some enthusiastic composters and gardeners today.

12.01.2022 Forgot your reusable shopping bag? Check out your supermarket for great initiatives like this Reusable Bag Box where you can borrow a bag. #plasticfreebellarine #woolworthsportarlington

10.01.2022 It's hump day and after 2 months of working 6 and 7 day weeks the AEC team are looking forward to spending a whole weekend with their family and friends.

08.01.2022 The data is in! Our dedicated team worked tirelessly with food traders at last weekends Johnston Street "Fiesta" and successfully diverted 930 kilograms of food scraps from landfill! The food scraps have now been sent to a dehydrator - the first stage of a very cool composting process. Felicitaciones! Congratulations!

08.01.2022 Last waste audit for 2017. Time to hang up the gloves and enjoy some fresh air girls!

07.01.2022 We have been out and about engaging with residents of Melbourne's high rise residential apartment blocks with the aim of improving recycling outcomes. It continues to surprise us how many people are not aware that empty aerosol cans can be recycled in domestic recycling bins. Aerosols are made of either steel or aluminium and can be recycled infinitely in Australia! What do you do with your empty aerosols?

07.01.2022 The AEC crew are proud to have been involved with the Degraves Street Recycling Facility for many years.

05.01.2022 We have been travelling through mining towns Paraburdoo and Tom Price where the mines are busy extracting non renewable natural resources and the Council meanwhile is sending valuable resources back to landfill. So many recyclables, no recycling service. What a waste.

02.01.2022 Wetlands can play an important role in keeping our rivers, bays and oceans clean by collecting litter that has been washed into waterways by storm water. We've been monitoring litter accumulating in a Melbourne wetland and we have counted dozens of plastic bottles, a range of balls, bucket loads of polystyrene, syringe safes, plastic bags and much more in a very small section of the wetland. Do you know where things go when they get littered?

01.01.2022 We cannot help ourselves. We have had our heads inside bins in parks and public places and estimate at least 80% of materials going to the local landfill could be recycled. But there is good news. Aluminium cans are recycled if dropped into one of these cages. We think they might need more cages though!
