20.01.2022 My initial symptom of having an allergy to dustmite was extreme rhinitis. In desperation I called your dustroy office to ask what I could do about it as after four nights I was desperately lacking in sleep. I had two bottles of dustroy delivered and immediately sprayed my bed , soft furnishings and the two large Persian carpets. That night I slept with a drastic reduction in my symptoms and immediately rang for another delivery of Dustroy! I would definately advise anyone in my predicament to make Dustroy part of their immediate treatment to combat Dust mite Allergy! Thanks Patricia
19.01.2022 Did you know that dustmites themselves don't actually bite? It is their feaces that causes us so much allergy grief. Whilst living in your bedding, they eat proteins from our hair and skin cells...and then their feces is a protein that we react too. It is this protein that triggers our allergy symptoms as we breath it in or it touches our skin. Yuck!!

18.01.2022 TIP - ALLERGY SUFFERERS! Did you know that dusting with a DAMP microfibre cloth is the most effective method to dusting your home. This method doesn't stir the allergens into the air to trigger a reaction (like a feather duster does -YUK!) and the collected allergens can be easily rinsed down the sink. NICE!
18.01.2022 Tis the season for sniffling and watery eyes. Although the warmer weather is usually welcome after a cold winter season, there are many people who dread the onset of allergy symptoms. But what separates the red-nosed, sneezing, itchy-eyed person from the one that isn’t affected at all by the change of season? Researchers at the University of Southampton think they may have an answer to that question. By examining specific genetic markers, they have found that the season in wh...ich a person is born has a large bearing on whether or not they will develop allergies later in life. Predicting allergic tendencies Scientists have known for some time that the season that a person is born in affects several things about them, including things like height and lifespan. However, linking allergies to season of birth can have additional further-reaching implications. These are interesting results. We know that season of birth has an effect on people throughout their lives. For example, generally, people born in autumn and winter are at increased risk for allergic diseases such as asthma. However, until now, we did not know how the effects can be so long lasting, said John Holloway, professor of Allergy and Respiratory Genetics at Southampton and one of the study’s authors. He explains that the epigenetic marks that the researchers discovered attach to DNA and create a protein that can force genes to express certain behaviors, like allergic tendencies, for years. In some cases, this can even be passed down to future generations. The implications of the discovery could go even further than just understanding allergies, though. It might sound like a horoscope by the seasons, but now we have scientific evidence for how that horoscope could work. Because season of birth influences so many things, the epigenetic marks discovered in this study could also potentially be the mechanism for other seasonally influenced diseases and traits too, not just allergy, said Dr. Gabrielle Lockett, first author of the study. Future research Although the study has already been certified through another testing of Dutch children, the researchers admit that there is more work to be done before they completely understand how seasons change the risk of allergies and disease. Although the research may lead to greater understanding on how to avoid the risk of allergies, the researchers want to stress that their initial research should not act as a guide for parents-to-be on when they should plan to have children. While these results have clinical implications in mediating against allergy risk, we are not advising altering pregnancy timing, said Holloway.
17.01.2022 The Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach FOR most of us, spring is a time to enjoy the awakening of nature, but for some, the season heralds rashes and itchiness. As an old Chinese saying goes, spring is the time for hundreds of grasses to sprout, and the time for hundreds of ailments to occur. Allergic dermatitis is often on the top of the list.... Traditional Chinese medicine believes that a deficit of natural endowment is the main internal cause of dermatitis, said Dr Li Bin, chief physician of the Dermatology Department of Yueyang Hospital attached to Shanghai University of TCM. Pathogenic allergens like germs, ultraviolet rays and pollen are often carried by wind, which can trigger the reaction. Those of us born with an over-sensitive immune system are more prone to allergies, as the body’s own immune system will mistake trifle things like pollen, dirt or proteins as pathogenic invaders and start to fight them. This can damage ordinary cells, tissue or organs and cause allergic reactions. Patients are especially vulnerable during spring as triggers like pollen, catkin, dust mite and molds fill the air, and ultraviolet rays sharply increases. Pre-existing diseases and health conditions as well as bad nutrition and fatigue pave the way for allergens to invade the body. Staying away from these allergens is often the only option. Traditional Chinese medicine experts advise to keep rooms clean, exposing clothes and quilts to direct sun and to stay indoors when the air quality is poor Eating fresh vegetables rich with Vitamin C and E like tomatoes, green peppers, cabbage and sesame helps boost your immune system. Food that traditional Chinese medicine believes to dispel toxins like lily’s root, pearl barley, white fungus and red-bean are also recommended, while eating photosensitive vegetables like amaranth, shepherd’s purse, figs and lettuce should be avoided. Stimulating foods like seafood, spicy food, garlic and fried foods should also be avoided.
17.01.2022 FOODS THAT HELP AGAINST ALLERGIES Fish One should include fish in their diet as it contains Omega 3 fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory properties that helps in reducing the risk of developing allergies. It also helps to reduce allergic symptoms.... Walnuts and flax seeds If you are prone to allergies then start having nuts such as walnuts and flaxseeds. They contain Omega 3 fatty acids in it which helps to reduces the risk of developing allergies. Broccoli, cabbage Food items like broccoli and cabbage contains quercetin, a flavoniod, which is antihestamine that prevents the body from releasing an allergic response. Green tea Drinking green tea is the simple and easy way to combat allergy as it contains antioxidants with antihistamine properties that are extremely effective against allergic reactions. Oranges, kiwi One should consume fruits like oranges and kiwifruit as they contain rich amount of Vitamin C which helps to boosts the immunity level to protect against allergies.
17.01.2022 TIP- To reduce exposure to dust mite allergens, use a vaccuum with a HEPA filter. HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. and is a type of mechanical air filter that works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and tobacco smoke.

11.01.2022 Q - Is 'Steam Cleaning' good for allergy sufferers? A - Yes....and No. Steam cleaning HARD surfaces is great. We thoroughly recommend this as it helps to remove mould spores, allergens, germs and stains too. All good for getting rid of the food source of dust mites. We do not recommend steaming your mattress or soft furnishings though. Adding moisture to the mattress will only enhance the breeding and life cycle of the dust mites.. and that can only lead to more dust mite allergens and more suffering.

02.01.2022 WHY DO FOOD ALLERGIES HAPPEN "According to a study released in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies among children increased approximately 50% between 1997 and 2011" (FARE) Food allergies have always been around, yet we still don't know exactly why it is that they develop in our bodies. There are many theories that seem to be on track in finding a true reason for the cause of allergies, but until then, we'll rely on all the expert opinions. I...Continue reading
01.01.2022 Allergy Control Spray by Dustroy denatures the proteins in dust mite droppings which can trigger asthma attacks and here is some other good advice from the National Asthma Council Australia. About dust mites Dust mites are microscopic creatures that feed off human skin scales. They are one of the most common allergen triggers for asthma, especially in humid and coastal parts of Australia.... They live in soft furnishings such as beds, bedding, carpets, upholstered furniture, soft toys and clothing, and are mostly found in people’s homes rather than public places. Dust mites are not usually in the air and only become airborne during and after dust-raising activities such as vacuuming and dusting. Reducing your exposure If you have a proven allergy to house dust mites, you may be advised to take measures to try to reduce your exposure. This involves killing house dust mites, removing the allergen they produce and reducing areas where they can live and breed. In the bedroom Steps to reduce exposure should focus on your bedroom, as the greatest exposure to house dust mites is from your bed. Some useful measures are: Open the curtains and air your bedding in the sunshine Wash sheets and pillow cases weekly in water hotter than 55C Cover your mattress, quilt and pillows with mite-resistant cases, and wash these regularly Remove untreated underlays Remove soft toys from the bedroom, or wash them weekly in water hotter than 55C note freezing soft toys overnight kills the mites but doesn’t remove the allergen Why a hot wash? Washing bedding in water hotter than 55C will kill mites and wash away the allergen they produce. If you can’t wash in hot water, use a commercial product containing essential oils such as tea tree or eucalyptus, formulated to kill dust mites in cold water. Hot tumble drying of washed items for 10 minutes after they are dry will also kill mites. Dry cleaning is not as effective as it will kill house dust mites but won’t remove the allergen. Around the house Use a damp or electrostatic cloth to dust hard surfaces, including hard floors Vacuum carpets and soft furnishings weekly, using a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter vacuum cleaner if possible Ask someone else to do the vacuuming while you leave the room, as vacuuming (even with a HEPA filter vacuum) increases the amount of dust mite allergen in the air for up to 20 minutes Reduce indoor humidity by having a dry and well ventilated home with floor and wall insulation and no evaporative coolers or unflued gas heaters Remember to clean window coverings (blinds and curtains) regularly. Consider house dust mite avoidance measures when building or renovating your home
