18.01.2022 What can we do about dry eye? A LOT! And it is no longer just about finding an eye drop that works. Dry eye is a complex disorder and can affect people differently. When the tears are not doing their job properly, you could experience mild to severe discomfort. If left untreated, damage can occur to the cells on the eye surface, creating inflammation and driving the condition to become worse over time. We take a very holistic approach to treating your symptoms. A compreh...ensive history helps determine why you have dry eye, and an examination of the ocular surface determines what we need to do to make the best management plan for you, based on specific diagnostic tests to really understand what is going on with your eyes. If you are concerned you may have dry eye, or wish to manage your condition better, call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss booking an appointment for you.

If you are concerned you may have dry eye, or wish to manage your condition better, call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss booking an appointment for you.

13.01.2022 The effects of dry eye can be mild, severe and/or variable, and may impact significantly on your quality of life. Some areas of your life that may be affected are: Contact lenses may become uncomfortable or unwearable, with inconsistent vision... Symptoms may be worse in different environments (such as air-conditioned) or in different seasons (particularly Winter). Working on the computer, reading, driving and watching TV may become uncomfortable with eye-fatigue or discomfort after short periods You may experience stress relating to disturbances in your routines or ability to do important tasks If you are concerned you may have dry eye, or wish to manage your condition better, call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss booking an appointment for you.

11.01.2022 The symptoms we call dry eye result from changes (or damage) in the balance and biology of the eye, especially the water and oil mix of the tears. In 80% of sufferers the oil producing glands (Meibomian glands) in the top and bottom lids arent working properly, or have become blocked. This means the tear: Is too watery and evaporates too fast ... Does not form a fully protective film over the eye Doesnt lubricate blinking When the tears arent doing their job properly you could experience mild to severe discomfort. If left untreated damage to the cells in the surface of the eye can occur creating inflammation which can make the condition worse and more painful. If you are concerned you may have dry eye, or wish to manage your condition better, call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss booking an appointment for you.

11.01.2022 And check out this cool video on YouTube about how to do it properly!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbX0xwKORjk

10.01.2022 We appreciate that life throws up unexpected surprises and changes are often unavoidable. However, last minute cancellations and rescheduling have a significant impact on our patient management. Waiting times for appointments can often be 2- 3 weeks and last minute cancellations do not allow time for other patients waiting for appointments to take that place. For these reasons we have a cancellation and non-attendance policy and fees may be incurred. Please contact us for... further information. If you miss an appointment due to exceptional circumstances or family emergency please call to discuss this with us.

09.01.2022 The BEST Pizzas !!! Head in there now (yes it helps dry eye by focusing on the YUM factor lol !)

08.01.2022 Its been a time of uncertainty for everyone these last couple of months. I think all of us are grateful to be living in SA with our very low numbers of COVID cases. Restrictions are starting to lift but were not out of the woods just yet! To meet our patients needs, we dropped down to reduced hours just 2 days a week. We will keep a close watch on the outcomes of opening the State back up and will continue to abide by all COVID guidelines and strict hygiene in the practi...ce, but will re-open for regular bookings from the beginning of June. To comply with social distancing recommendations, we ask you to keep as close to your appointment time as possible (please wait in your car if youre early and can do so) and limit accompanying people to one if absolutely required. We thank you for your understanding with this matter. For those of you who have cancelled or put your appointment on hold over the last 2 months due to COVID-19, we will be contacting you soon but please do not hesitate to contact us yourself if you are feeling an appointment is required before we do. And of course, for all our patients who would like an appointment, but are just not willing to take the chance on public outings just yet, we certainly understand and look forward to seeing you when it appears we have more control of this virus. We thank all of you so much for your support, especially during such unprecedented times. We have realised we play a huge part for many of you in managing your condition and we are so happy we have been able to safely be here for you. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you all soon

08.01.2022 With our work, study and social lives using devices and computers for often large parts of our waking lives means unfortunately the risk of dry eye may be higher for any of us. When we concentrate on tasks like computer work, we blink less and tears evaporate quicker than they should. Decreased screen time and taking regular breaks is essential for keeping a healthy tear film, good ergonomic posture, minimise eye strain and possibly reduce the progression of short sightedness in children. If you are concerned you may have dry eye call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss booking an appointment for you.

06.01.2022 Jennifer has recruited an Assistant at Alleve Eye Clinic. D is responsible for performing much of the testing and treatment available at Alleve. You may have already experienced having your eyelids flipped and imaged by D If not, perhaps you should! Coming from an eclectic background, D has studied and worked in various fields over the years. On a personal level, D has an abnormally close relationship to Puppy Cat so here is a gratuitous picture of him, actively utilising his superpower of immense cuteness for the camera.

04.01.2022 If youre thinking of coming to see us but are concerned about the expense. The good news is that Medicare will rebate approximately 50% of consult fees (to those eligible for Medicare) and we process this on the day of your appointment. You may pay from any account (including AMEX) and your rebate is made directly to a cheque/savings/debit account (card needed, not refundable to credit account). Unfortunately at this time health funds are not able to contribute to any of the diagnostic tests that we do.

03.01.2022 Because treatment and management of dry eye is such a complex process, we like to see you for an initial consultation which includes a questionnaire on your general health, your symptoms and significant factors that might be contributing to your issues. From there we can determine if you need a full dry eye workup and management plan, or if there is a shorter course of action that can be taken to help you find relief. Initial consultations are 50 minutes . If you are concerned you may have dry eye call us on 08 7225 9798 and we will be happy to discuss this and answer any questions you may have about booking an appointment.

03.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON COVID-19 Like most businesses, we are closely following the progress of the COVID-19 Coronavirus and acting under the advice of the relevant Australian government and medical authorities, and the World Health Organisation. For now, it is business as usual and we want to reassure all our patients that our priority is maintaining the safe health and well-being of all our patients, staff and families. ... Aside from our routine cleaning after each patient, we have upped our protocols to include frequent sanitization of communally shared areas such as chairs, our countertops, water cooler, door handles the EFTPOS machine and even our phones and keyboards (we do that already!). Our Blephasteam is thoroughly cleaned after each patient and there is a breath shield on the microscope that Jennifer uses in case you are concerned about spreading or contracting anything via close contact. The paddles used for eyelid expression are sanitized to a high medical standard. And of course there is the frequent hand washing! We are a small business and like so many out there, need your ongoing support. Those at risk should minimise physical contact and reschedule non-urgent appointments. Please call us on 7225 9798, email [email protected] or change your booking on line. For the rest of our valued patients, please feel reassured that we take your - and the rest of the communitys safety as paramount and feel we are confident in providing your dry eye care to meet this. From your side though, we need your co-operation by please re-scheduling your appointment if you: * Have a sore throat, cough or a fever * Have returned from (or have had close contact with someone who has) overseas travel in the last 14 days. * Feel you may be at risk of contracting the virus. Be sensible, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face, stay safe and look after each other were in this together! From the team at Alleve Eye Clinic. (photo by PublicDomainPictures--14)
