24.01.2022 The importance of a good pillow and an awesome bed to support your body while it is resting and recuperating from your busy day. We under-estimate the importance of allowing our bodies and Central nervous system to have high quality rest and relaxation. Important things to highlight:... Adequate hours of restful sleep. Supportive bed and pillow. No TV in the bedroom. No electrical stimulus/screen time 1 hour before bed time. Just some of the most important things to do and think about... Today I had a great mattress consultation, something I urge everyone to do before investing in a new bed/mattress... There is much to consider as far as age, frailty, aches and pains, joint support, health conditions, recovery from heavy training in sport and of course injuries. Earthing shifts the stress-dominated nervous system to a calmer state.... The insights into Gluteal rehab and how easy it is to implement into our patient management in order to optimise the neuromuscular connection between brain and Glutes were amazing and instantly practical. 17.01.2022 LOW BACK PAIN may be associated with overactive muscles in the lumbar spine. The Quadratus Lumborum may become overactive due to prolonged periods of sitting, tight hips/glutes and poor posture, causing excess compression in the spine, thus contributing to low back pain. Giving them adequate stretch is vital to managing and preventing Lower Back Pain.... Sitting on the ground with your legs out, lean to one side, reaching your arm over your head (remeber to keep your back straight!!!) 16.01.2022 Vagal breathing taps into your autonomic nervous system and has been reported to have positive benefits to health and wellbeing. Vagal breathing has also been referred to as diaphragmatic breathing or belly breathing. Vagal breathing can be done any where, I personally found it useful just before a major exam. So breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and breathe out slowly for 8 seconds. Repeat for about 10 breaths. This exercise takes around 3 minutes to do. This form of breathing can be hard to do at first, but keep practicing, it will be worth it. Xiao Ma et al. 2017. 12.01.2022 Today I not only was able to do my job as a chiropractor for one of my lovely patients but I also was able to help her within stage 4 restrictions. I am sure that there are many practitioners out there hurting financially because they are actually obeying what is law at the moment. There is a lot that we can do via Telehealth or video call. This morning one of my patients called saying she had to see me because she had such a sore neck. I called her back with a video call where it became obvious that her pain was not an emergency and in fact could be managed with some Myo fascial release techniques that I taught her how to do via the video call. This evening, she called me and excitedly told me that the pain was gone!!!! We, as chiropractors can help people even over the phone if we only try!!!!
