23.01.2022 Our AGM will be held on Sunday 7th of March at the Cominos House (27 Greenslope St, Edge Hill) at 4.00pm. It is the time to receive an account of the past year's events and elect a new committee and officers for 2021. Nominations for positions as officers and committee members must be submitted on appropriate nomination forms. These forms can be obtained from the President or Secretary (email: [email protected]) and must be submitted to the President or Secretary at least one week before the meeting. 17.01.2022 Aujourd'hui, le premier mai, c'est la tradition du muguet en France. Cette tradition remonte à la Renaissance, Charles IX en ayant offert autour de lui en 1561 ...comme porte-bonheur. La tradition a été rompue pendant la Révolution Française puis s'est perdue pendant près d'un siècle. Entretemps, le jour du 1er mai est devenu la Fête du Travail. Le muguet revient à la mode a la fin du 19ème siècle (La Belle Epoque) grâce au chansonnier Félix Mayol. Les hommes élégants portaient un brin de muguet au revers de leur redingote, et les grands couturiers offraient au 1er mai un brin de muguet à leurs petites mains et à leurs clientes. Christian Dior en a même fait lemblème de sa maison de couture. Ce n'est qu'au début du XXème siècle que le muguet sera associé à la Fête du Travail.

08.01.2022 The French community in Cairns lost a beautiful lady yesterday. Marie-Claude Nicot passed away on December 21st. She passed with dignity and grace surrounded by family & love. The French community will thoroughly miss her. In lieu of flowers etc, her family asks that donations be made to French Assist so that her legacy of caring for the French Community may continue on.

01.01.2022 On 22 July 1938, 82 years ago today, the Australian National Memorial was inaugurated in the presence of King George VI, the French President Albert Lebrun, and... many families and veterans from France and Australia. The Memorial pays tribute to the Australians who served on the Western Front during the First World War. Its walls commemorate those who died in France and have no known grave. A series of postcards was published and sold at the inauguration for 2.75 French Francs per pack of five postcards These postcards are displayed at the Sir John Monash Centre.
