23.01.2022 Born with Cerebral Palsy, Hussein was told at birth that he wouldnt be able to eat or walk by himself. Fast forward approximately 15 years and proving the doctors wrong by living a pretty active life. A spinal correction surgery went wrong Hussein was again told he would never walk again. ... Another 10 years on and a lot of hard work, support (physically and emotionally) from his friends and family. Hussein was able regain the movement and strength in his legs that he lost from the surgery and therefore regain his life back. The last 12 months Hussein has gone from strength to strength and is now able to get himself up onto one knee and balance by himself with little assistance! Looking a head to the next 12 months he WILL be able to stand up by himself with little assistance!

23.01.2022 You’re never too experienced to start from the beginning. I’ve been a trainer for over 10 years I’ve been weight training for 15 years completed 1000 steps ... I competed in a body building competition and will compete again at some point my stage body fat was approximately 5% BUT today was my first leg session due to injury. So it’s time to start again from scratch and go back to the basics. After 20+ surgeries in 30 years one thing I’ve learnt I to not rush the process. Yes with my exercise background, knowledge and experience I could probably jump straight back into what I was doing 3 months ago and get a way with it. However the risk of re injuring myself is way too high and not worth being forced to take another 3 months off. If you leave your ego at the door the come back is always greater than the setback

23.01.2022 The countdown is on 4 weeks from today

22.01.2022 Dear weight-loss industry You dont know me, but Ive been around you for a long time. In-fact, I know you all too well.... Ive tried and failed at your diets. I cant sustain being hungry every day and feeling like shit. Ive wasted money joining but not going to your gyms. Im sure theyre great! Ive listened to your gurus who have told me that All I have to change is my mindset, like its something I can do overnight after battling all my life. I thought there must be something wrong with me when I wasnt succeeding while so many other women who Ive never met seemed to be doing it easy. You made me feel confused, frustrated and alone. But you know what? I dont think I was the problem. To be honest, I think youre broken. I think you do more harm than good. Not a week goes by where I dont meet a woman whos stuck where I was and desperate for a way out. This woman not only feels confused, frustrated and aloneshe questions if she can ever fix it. But I think Im starting to figure it outI think Im getting better at seeing through the bullshit You focus first on losing weight as fast as possible I focus first on improving mental and inner health You tell me I need to exercise more and more I choose to exercise smarter and not break my body You tell me to eat less food I choose to eat more food to give me energy and heal my body You give me role models who I should strive to be like, even though I never will be or even want to be I choose to be the best version of myself Each week you come at me with a new workout routine or hot new diet thatll get me my summer body in a month Ive come to accept that there are no quick fixes, despite your insistence. Im focusing on looking and feeling good for the rest of my life So to you I say thanks, but no thanks. Not doing things your way has worked out pretty well for me so far. Its going to work out pretty well for other women too. I really hope that one day you can read the writing on the wall and start actually helping people. Sincerely Every woman out there who has struggled for years with her weight-loss efforts

21.01.2022 At the start of the year he was barely able to move. Walking with two crutches with his carer very closely behind. This past year Hussein has smashed his goal after goal on his way to gaining his full independence. Not only has he increased the quality of his life by improving his strength and mobility he has indirectly improved the quality of life for his carers and family members who support him. No longer do they have to be attached to him 24/7 everywhere he goes, watch...ing his every move making sure that he doesnt stumble from the slightest miss-step. They say that you become the product of the 5 people you associate your self with most and this year Hussein has definitely improved quality of life of the people around him!

15.01.2022 The role your support networks play in you achieving your goals is a pivotal one It’s True achieving your goals comes down to how much work you’re willing to put in and how bad you want it. However this does NOT mean you have to do it alone. While achieving a goal without any help brings a great Sense of accomplishment, it can also lead to you feeling very isolated and stuck wondering what the next step is. Which can lead to loss of motivation, effort and and ultimately giv...ing up. We all need help in some way shape or form, whether it be exercise, nutrition, mental health or any other issue life throws at us. This is where your support network plays a big role. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. By setting up the right support network for you gives you the best possible chance to achieve your goals #itaintweaktospeak

12.01.2022 When you want something bad enough you’ll do anything to get it and nothing will stand in your way. I can not speak more highly of this guys attitude and perseverance. Two weeks removed from 2 emergency surgeries in the space of 14 days including a brain surgery and he’s already back into it.

11.01.2022 How do I spot someone when I have balance and stability issues due to my disability? I don’t! Always ensure your own safely first!... It is unsafe for me to try and lift heavy weights while standing. Not to mention I am putting my clients safety at risk. Place the spotting arms in so that my clients know that they can safely perform the movement. Be ready in case they do get stuck otherwise Stand back and let them do their thing If you understand your own strengths and weaknesses you will always find away to work around it

07.01.2022 Not all disabilities are visible I have an intellectual disability can I still train like everybody else? Of course you can! ... Approaching exercise when you have an intellectual disability can be a very daunting task for someone. Not to mention stepping to a new training program in a new gym/studio with a complete stranger. Here are some key things to think about when training a client with an intellectual disability. Apply the KISS ( Keep It Simple Stupid ) - make the whole process as simple as you can so that they do t feel too overwhelmed by everything keep your instructions to a minimum - by giving them one or two instruction at a time they are more likely to understand and apply what you are telling them stay calm and be patient - they are already feeling overwhelmed by this whole situation let them take some time to adjust to the new environment. allow extra time in the session - my sessions go for 30-45 minutes however I always tell my clients that we have an hour to get the workout done. This allows them to relax, take their time and not feel rushed start with simple movements - undertaking this kind of an exercise routine maybe complete new to them. Remember not all disabilities are visible however training with an intellectual disability is no different to training with a physical disability or a long term injury. You just need to think outside the box and modify what you need to.

07.01.2022 If you REALLY want to do something you’ll ALWAYS find a way to do it With the current lockdown situation I don’t have anyone to spot me while I lift heavy weight. I don’t feel safe doing it by myself so adjust spotting arms and add chains to increase the difficulty safely. When there’s a will there’s a way!

06.01.2022 Imagine not being able to use anything from your belly button or below. You have no control whatsoever over your feet calves thighs ... hips and 95% of your core The corresponding muscles that control those areas are there but cannot be used, as a result you are confined to a wheelchair. You decide to throw yourself into an exercise program which consists of high intensity cardio and heavy weight lifting. The heavy weight lifting requires you to activate as many muscle groups as you can to assist with lifting that weight and get the most out of the exercise. All of your stabilisation, activation and movement comes from your upper body and top part of your core. You then decided to add in a nutritional component to your program. This only complicates matters as you cant feel your stomach. This means you cant tell whether you are hungry or when you are full! In a program where we train you to eat as often as you can you simply have to guess whether or not you should eat again! On top of all this you have had two rods put into your back to straighten your spine and restrict your movement in your back. This is what Ben goes through everyday! With a lot of hard work over the past 12-18 months and with the right support behind him. Ben has learnt how to Activate every muscle he can to assist with is weight training Made a conscious decision effort to make sure he is eating as regularly as he can ( 4-5 meals a day ) Takes on every challenge I throw at him comes in to every session with a positive mindset and a can do attitude most importantly focuses on what he CAN do We all know that weight loss on the scales is NOT the be all and end all of this program. However as a result of all his hard work over the last 12-18months and only two weeks into starting his first nutrition program Ben has lost over 4kg since December which includes the dreaded time between Christmas and New Years! Awesome work Ben I cannot wait to see what you achieve this year!

05.01.2022 Another program down another great result! Has her eating been perfect? has she completed every training session has she been getting her 8 hours of sleep every night? ... The answer to all of these questions is NO! What she has been doing is: eating smaller meals throughout the day and hardly misses a meal listened to her body and rested accordingly increased her quality of sleep on a consistent basis A body transformation is NOT about getting everything perfect, its about improving the quality of your life piece by piece

05.01.2022 Slow and steady wins the race! Trying to teach my hamstrings and glutes to activate properly after years of not using them has and will be a long and frustrating journey. Ive spent the best part of 22 years not using and not knowing how to use them properly. ... Now at the age of 29, even though I have been a lot more consistent with my leg workouts in the last 7 years. I know that 7 years of consistent work does not make up for the last 22 years. The same can be said for a body transformation! It takes time to undo what has been done in the past It takes time to build lean muscle It takes time to burn fat It takes time to build new habits It takes time to get out of the diet mindset It takes time to rebuild a positive mindset The long lasting results that we are all after takes time!

04.01.2022 A river breaks rock, not because of its power, but its persistence! Alex has been training for over a year with AIBT and through her hard work and consistency, her results speak for themselves.
