24.01.2022 Burnout is a real thing even in a time where we've been pulled away from our usual routines. At the moment so many of us are multi tasking, home schooling and still finding it hard to say no. May your weekend be slow, steady, full (or empty) of things (to recharge the heart and soul).

24.01.2022 For those with fathers close, to those whose fathers were detached or not there, to those grieving, those celebrating. To mothers who became fathers, fathers who lost children... To step fathers, donor fathers, adoptive fathers...to all the experiences: love, joy, longing, sadness.... Father’s Day raises so many human emotions. May you go well this Sunday

22.01.2022 This year has copped a lot of flack, and perhaps my stand point is an unpopular one, but 2020 was pivotal for the growth of so many. No, I wouldn’t change what it brought by way of consciousness (or necessary discomfort). We’ve been wedged into incredibly uncomfortable emotional spaces and come into contact, at the level of our bones, with our resilience and capability so much so that we cannot doubt it. We’ve come to know vulnerable soft parts that were guarded by harder pr...otective parts. We’ve come to connect in ways we did not know were possible. Through strain we strengthened. We saw small businesses do phenomenal and creative things, we took pleasure in the small stuff, found gratitude for things we took for granted (loo roll!). We have created moments of beauty from moments where we felt oppression and realized both can exist at once. We leaned resistance crafts discomfort and that yielding is grace. As we near the closure of a year we never imagined, it’s a good time to dish out some smiley face stickers for the growth, the lessons and achievements. No they weren’t the ones we had in mind but they were a gift nonetheless.

19.01.2022 They say that the only way out is through. And if if feels dark in the middle it’s because you’re halfway there. Keep walking toward that pinprick of light at the other side that gets brighter with each step. Each little step might feel a struggle, like it’s not big enough but it is bigger than you think. Each tiny step is a step of determination a step that says ‘I’m worth this.’ Each step leaves you in a different place than the one before.

19.01.2022 For many of us anxiety is a friend we've had visit far more often in recent times than other friends. I've been working on some tools and practices for self support around anxiety. Via the link below you'll be able to do the self-guided practices and you'll also be able to click on links of audio guided versions (that are also available for download so you have them with you on your device). https://www.allisonbrowningtherapies.com//strategies-and-t

19.01.2022 Many of us have been raised where we might have felt others knew best, that we didn't quite trust our own self worth enough to make the 'right call' on something. Healing from trauma (which includes unstable parental attachments) can take time and it involves noticing where we feel unsteady, uncertain and starting to use our inner resources (and tools learning in therapy) to learn to sit with uncertainty and to learn to sit with the knowing we each have that is no less than anyone else's. (Need extra support? Hit the counselling link in bio.)

19.01.2022 Our natural response to discomfort is to pull away or to stifle uncomfortable feelings. It's like shooting the messenger. They are just there to let us know what's going on, to draw our attention to what we actually need (and that is to provide for ourselves any unmet needs - sleep, gentleness, connection, tenderness, food, a sense of safety....).

18.01.2022 Despite an excellent skim rotund, sometimes we hit a bit of a plateau with our skin. It can feel dull, sallow and in need of a bit of love during stressful times. The O Sonic Cleanser can shift where the skin is at in just 2 minutes a day. It removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, removes residual makeup and stimulates blood supply to the skin as well as increases product penetration. This nifty device provides 8000 pulsation per minute, has three speeds and 3 brushes (cleanse, massage and anti aging). It’s waterproof and USB rechargeable. Yup that’s right- no batteries needed! And it’s available in to online store (link in bio or tap image to view).

18.01.2022 We are not our thoughts (or our feelings). Our thoughts are a culmination of our experiences that allow us to view life through the lens of these experiences. Our experiences might include trauma, challenging relationships, childhood experiences that shaped us. Our experiences are limited and our thoughts are not always going to give us a complete truth. Being able to notice thoughts with curiosity allows us to choose how we respond to them.

17.01.2022 Discomfort allows us to reposition ourselves like we would if we were uncomfy in our seat at the cinema. It would be silly to stay sitting in the same position with a foot going numb with pins and needles when we could move a little, free things up... When we feel emotionally uncomfortable it's information that we might need to make an adjustment. We might tend to feelings or emotions coming up. We might look at our relationship to our work or it might be a personal connection.... When we feel uncomfortable we get to use that information to shift position to look at how we relate, how we resist, what is important to us, what we want more of in life and perhaps a bit less of... It might be a small adjustment we make or it might be a bigger one. One small change might allow for other steps we need to take to feel clearer.

16.01.2022 Micro needing is pretty much my favorite skin treatment. In the video you’ll see Baylee’s skin after just two sessions where we focused on her pigmentation. The first and second images were taken just a month apart as we prepped for her in her third session. The freckling is significantly lighter and the dark cluster on Baylee’s cheek has lightened beautifully . We’re so chuffed! Make that resolution to live that skin in 2021. Drop me a line to book

15.01.2022 It's a such a simple thing and the word is so commonly used: gratitude. The thing is it actually has a scientific evidence base and has been widely researched. Gratitude unshackles us from negative emotions and it actually shifts the neural pathways in our brain. When we feel gratitude we releases a feed good chemical (dopamine) that enhance our mood immediately. In a time of challenge a daily gratitude practice isn't a bad way to start or end the day. So what are you gratef...ul for? (My list is below) Wallis (the furry ABT lap warmer) Generous friends who continue to check on me The local creek and the sound of flowing water The humans who support my small business The cute decorated fences in the neighbourhood for lock down Bees in my garden, reminding me to just focus on doing whet is needed, know that small humble tasks literally change the world

15.01.2022 Sunday: May you yield.

15.01.2022 Ummm ... what is glycation? . Put simply it’s a cellular process that causes our skin to age. Smoking, air pollution, diet and genetics can make it worse. But there’s hope! It can be prevented. . Maintaining an excellent skin routine with potent antioxidants (like vitamins A,C and niacinnamide) is vital. Eating a rainbow of plant based foods will ensure antioxidants are at play in the body. Integrating a broad spectrum mineral SPF daily is a must.... . Need guidance? 15.01.2022 Ebb and flow... Our self perception may have been learned from as way back as our early childhood where our parents and their relationships with their bodies and selves were modelled to us as being the norm. We might have had a mother who talked about her body and weight, a father who commented on our mothers body, his own or ours. We might have had older siblings we learned from, watching how they engaged with their bodies, skin... Taking care is important but HOW we take ca...re of ourselves that matters. Introducing skin products to love and support our skin rather than in opposition to it (to 'get rid of' or to 'eradicate'). Introducing new food habits out of love and support rather than to brutalise our bodies. Noticing the small talk we have with ourselves is important to changing the relationship to ourselves, our bodies and our skin.

13.01.2022 Covid-19 has affected us in so many ways. It's shown us how resilient we can be but it's also emphasised the need to reach out for support and to be present with each other. This time has left many isolated, left some individuals and families in situations of family violence more vulnerable and it's brought us to know our own humility and to connect with what is important. I've written a new blog post on what to expect from counselling support (because so many need that extra support right now). The piece helps to answer common questions and to explain what you can expect from connecting with extra support. https://www.allisonbrowningtherapies.com//what-to-expect-f

13.01.2022 Happy coming together season and by that I mean with self and with others. Each year my client Jo crochets me a cotton hand dyed Christmas star. She’s been coming to see me for way more years than the stars you can see here. Another client Emily gifted me last year (or was it the year before?!) the ceramic decoration in the middle made by her mum. Christmas can be both a beautiful time and a tetchy time. this Christmas I’ve chosen to spend it with the ginger fur ball many of... you know as Wallis who often warms your laps in the waiting area. For those of you also hanging solo I hope it’s magical, for those of you with family I hope it’s grace-filled (even if might be challenging for some). This year has tested our ideas of how things should be and we were forced to grow, to yield, to embrace change and to trust. I hope y’all are celebrating that resilience and growth (even if it came after freak outs or stubbornness to yielding and with a dose of anxiety). We are here now, so go enjoy the moments.

13.01.2022 After treating my skin with Dermapen and hitting the day three ‘dry’ phase I’m out to banish skin flaking with a nifty trick!

11.01.2022 In a culture that is so paced stillness can be labelled as 'laziness' by our minds. And yet our bodies and our minds need a balance of stillness and activity to heal and to thrive. Without stillness we have no perspective, we are in constant reaction (to others, to circumstances) rather than in response or in reflection. Mastery of the self (of life) is knowing when stillness is needed. It is knowing that taking a step back is not necessarily taking a step backward. Connection to self is knowing that rest and reflection is about understanding personal values and what is needed in any given moment so we can THEN act (rather than react out of emotion). We can wholly respond in ways that come from having listened to what is right for us and what is respectful to all.

11.01.2022 Boundaries; noticing and naming emotions (but not fusing or identifying with them); and being clear on self worth, so there's no temptation to 'settle' are self care foundations. Boundaries can be tricky to suss out and to implement so if you need help there's a great guide in the bio link (which will take you through to the blog article).

11.01.2022 Supplements can support our skin and our mental health. And right now we all need a helping hand. An algae based omega will reduce inflammation in the skin and body support acne healing, improve skin suppleness and tightness and it also supports brain, heart and eye health and hair growth. Zinc helps our immune system and supports skin healing and inflammation and our nervous system.... Vitamin B helps with mood, energy and nervous system function. Vitamin D supports skin dryness and eczema. It helps skin cell growth and repair, supporting the skin to fight off free radicals which lead to ageing. Studies have shown that low levels of vitamin D are corelated to anxiety symptoms. All these extra helpers you'll find in the online store.

11.01.2022 An at home mask is not only a beautiful self care treat but it is also a way to deeply treat your skin in a time when we can’t get a hands-on treatment. A good mask will contains active ingredients to either deeply nourish and hydrate (if it’s a restorative mask) or to exfoliate, brighten and clear pores. I’m a believer in masks that work for results, that don’t mess about! The treatment masks that have been carefully curated for the online store are vegan, hard working, Au...ssie made and free of nasties like parabens and sulphates. Need support choosing something for your skin? Drop me a line!

10.01.2022 Good mental health means having daily non-negotiables around our self care. Right now, with the impact of Covid-19 lockdowns and with our daily routine changing so much it's been easy to drop the ball on the simple (but super important) stuff. It's okay to keep self care simple - it's actually great if we do keep it simple so it feels easy, good, and something we do without effort. Daily non-negotables can be as simple as one of two of these things each day: I wake and I mak...e a cuppa and sit quietly and collect my thoughts and feelings During the day I go for a walk around the block Before bed I read to relax my mind Before breakfast I meditate for 5mins At the end of the day I run a bath for myself When I feel anxiety in the day I do some breath work If you need extra support click the picture for a link to downloadable breath and meditation practices. You can also listen to these on the Mindfulness Library media player (link in bio).

09.01.2022 Boundaries and the important Qs we need to be asking One of the things I find that comes up so often in my own life and with clients I see is the topic of boundaries and how scary they can feel and what having boundaries even means. Boundaries are limits we put in place around elements in our lives to ensure we keep our physical, mental and spiritual health in tip-top shape. Sometimes these are non-existent to begin with or they may have broken down or need firming up. ... 1 WHAT ARE YOUR CURRENT BOUNDARIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES? I want you to think about what they might be with your family, your partner, your friends, your work, with technology. Think about what boundaries you already have in place? 2 WHERE DO YOU NEED TO PUT IN SOME BOUNDARIES? A good place to begin is asking yourself, where you are feeling exhausted, frustrated or drained in your life. How do you wish things looked different? Where are you not showing yourself kindness and respect? Where are you taking on responsibilities that are not yours to tackle? 3 WHERE ARE YOUR BOUNDARIES CRUMBLING? Think about where your boundaries need to be firmer? Where are there breaches of them? How & why do these happen? Once you are clear about your boundaries (where they are healthy and where they're in need of attention) it makes it much easier to formulate a plan for your next steps. If you're keen to read more about boundaries click the 'journal' link in the bio where there's a bunch more food for thought! x Allison

08.01.2022 COVID restrictions have left many of us feeling a little lack luster. If you’re feeling dull you can turn up the bright with Concentrated Brightening Serum. Apply 1-2 pumps on clean, dry skin ensuring the Flashwhite Unisphrees burst to to release brightening actives evenly throughout the serum. Apply morning and evening to pigmented areas only (Skin will lighten wherever product is applied!) The Brightening Serum is available in the online store (link in bio).

08.01.2022 Wisdom from Wallis: We have been so conditioned to dislike ourselves, from social media to inherited shame and oppression by larger systems that loving ourselves, accepting ourselves as we are in the fullness of our experience is a revolutionary act. That fullness of experience might include ways we have behaved that we feel regretful of but have learned and grown from. That fullness of experience might include ways we have let ourselves down but now support ourselves around. That fullness of experience might include ways we are different but that allow us to relate to others through that difference. Revolution comes through acceptance, relating, healing and... though self love (which happens through showing up and parenting ourselves, holding ourselves both accountable and dear).

07.01.2022 Taking time to ourselves, to be rather than 'work it out' to write what comes is to allow ourselves to process. Some of what goes on the page might be inspiring, some thoughts might be confronting and some words might be what Brene Brown calls a 'shitty first draft' where we write down the story that we're telling ourselves about a particular situation. And then we can look at it and ask ourselves 'is this really true' and acknowledge it's just a story.

06.01.2022 This is a beautiful video really perfect for right now. So many of us are experiencing a bunch of sadness and grief for things we've lost (and other emotions too). I loved the key messages in this. It's the hardest thing to sit with another person in dark feelings but I hope you'll stand with me in not "pooping rainbows" while supporting others in hardship. Sending much love (and I'll see you in person from Oct 28th). x Allison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2zLCCRT-nE

06.01.2022 Wisdom from Wallis: have you noticed that here where I work there isn't a long list of facial treatments. Why? Because Allison and I are all about customising treatments to your individual skin needs. The Science and Soul Facial is comprehensive (ideal for your first time) it's where we dig into your health (physical and emotional) and where we really tuck into treating your skin in a hands on way (think extractions and pushing the skin forward and some blissful relaxat...ion). The Soulful Skin Facial is for maintenance (ideal for when we've seen you before and you need a tune up). I'm a therapy cat and Allison is a therapist (skin therapist and mental health therapist) we bring this holistic approach to working with you and your skin (because you are a whole being and not just one big beautiful skin organ). 06.01.2022 Resolutions might feel good right now, the setting of goals or challenges; however, if that doesn’t feel right for you perhaps right now it might be a time to reflect instead on what you might let go of. What beliefs, habits, fears might you want to take out of your hand luggage as you journey into this new year? What might might you want to begin let go of to lighten to load?

06.01.2022 Skin dryness and dehydration. Why does it happen? Your skin can be dry for a lot of reasons. The most common one I come across in my work is that the client is using a face oil and maybe even and oil-based cleanser but there's not enough actual hydration in the skin routine. 'Hydration?!' you say.... Yes hydration. Hydration comes from water, not oil. When we're thirsty we drink water (not oil). Same goes for our skin. We need a good balanced moisturiser to hydrate our skin and prevent moisture loss. A hyaluronic serum will help with hydration and water loss prevention too. A balm or skin oil will help prevent water loss but what it won't do is hydrate the skin. Need help with skin hydration and selecting some really supportive serums and a super moisturiser? Send me an email!

05.01.2022 Growth and healing involves understanding that: Vulnerability is not 'weakness', it's connection Strength isn't about not ever feeling scared... Having knowledge isn't always about being an expert (it's about trusting yourself) Stability isn't a stationary thing, it's about constant adjustment to ensure we feel balanced. (Need more inspiration: head to the free Mindfulness Library - link in bio)

05.01.2022 And what we see is our life moving like that along the dark edges of everything... believing in a thousand fragile and unprovable things. Looking out for sorrow, slowing down for happiness,... making all the right turns. ~ Mary Oliver If you need support in slowing down for happiness follow the link in bio to our Mindfulness Library where there are free resources, music, mediations, inspiration to support in this time. A beautiful way, perhaps, to start the weekend

04.01.2022 It’s R U OK day today. Right now most of us would answer a some kind of variation on ‘not really’ to that question. It might be the weight of general COVID-19 challenge, it might be an intensifying of mental health challenges you already experience or it might be that you’re experiencing anxiety, loneliness or depression for the first time... All challenge is worthy of support. It’s okay to tell a friend or love (or a even stranger in an online community group) that you’re not doing well, that you need a chat... If you need support right now (or any time) it’s normal. Tap the link in the bio for more info on counselling. There’s also a brand new blog post up in the journal (link in bio) where I aim to talk about what to expect from going to counseling for your first time (which can seem nerve wracking at first).

04.01.2022 If you are in need of some TLC I've just uploaded a new meditation to the Mindfulness Library. It's a goodie to start the day and to end it (brilliant before bed). Take a listen, bookmark the page so you have extra support at your fingertips. https://www.allisonbrowningtherapies.com/mindfulness-library

04.01.2022 Perfectionism isn’t quite what we often perceive it to be. If we have these tendencies we’ll often wear it as a badge of honor , because it allows us to feel ‘good’, ‘dutiful’, ‘held in high esteem’. But perfectionism is at its core a form of self harm. It’s our lack of self worth, our insecurities, applying a lashing of lipstick to look their best. It takes time, patience, a bundle of compassion and a bit of therapy to begin to unravel the history of our perfectionism and to... find ease around it. Go gently and notice when there is self pressure to please, to have it be ‘just right’ (at the cost of your joy) If you need support tap the counselling link in the bio @joy.studio__

04.01.2022 Things that affect your skin: Gut health Hormones Medication... Stress Sleep Diet Work Genetics Lifestyle Contraceptive pill When I work with you on your skin goals I'm working with the whole of you, skin, biology and mental health. Getting the right skin care in place is vital but so is addressing underlying health and stress-related issues. A virtual consult is a good way to begin to nut out what is happening... and why.

03.01.2022 Lockdowns have challenged and they have also fortified us... Reflecting on my own relationship with limitations in place has been a process of resistance, acceptance....and (finally) gratitude. Lockdowns have demanded much of us and it's felt uncomfortable at times, and yet...... This time has highlighted what is important, what we would like to create more of in life and what we might like less of that has been tethering us. Sometimes it takes challenge for us to question how life is and what we would like life to contain. Lockdowns have forged unique ways of connecting online and in person. Where once we might have reflexively caught up in a cafe we are now walking together, picnicking, taking time to connect in different ways, in nature. We're learned to appreciate the small stuff. There have been many epiphanies on this wild winding lockdown path for me. I'm curious to know what yours have been...

03.01.2022 With Covid restrictions having been extended taking care of your skin at home (and self!) is vital. The O Cosmedics Sleep in Mask not only hydrates your skin but it also hydrates your poor over washed and sanitised hands. Keep it beside the bed and apply to your face (and hands!) on top of your night time routine then go to bed! No rinsing. You'll wake in the morning with super dewy and happy skin! Available in the online store https://www.allisonbrowningtherapies.com/shop

02.01.2022 Our emotions, thoughts and feelings can bust into the joint and take over. They can be serious gate crashers. And because they feel so powerful at any given moment we often Invest fully in them. In actual fact our thoughts, feelings and emotions are just passing weather, clothes we can slip on or off. They are helping to let us know something isn’t 100 per cent, that there is a part of us that needs support and attention. In the Mindfulness Library link in the bio there are some helpful meditations to support working with thoughts feelings and emotions. In the Anxiety Support link in the bio there are some supportive self practices you can do.

02.01.2022 It's normal to experience guilt and anxiety when practicing setting boundaries. If you didn't grow up around healthy boundaries and if it was normal to place your own needs aside to priorities others (or if your needs were overlooked regularly) it will feel scary to set boundaries. It's normal to feel you might 'lose friends', 'piss people off' or create conflict. Ultimately setting healthy boundaries means having healthy relationships and if someone is put out by your healthy boundary setting then it's likely that they benefited from you having no boundaries. Boundaries are the most brilliant thing to learn about and explore. If you're keen to learn more I have a blog post in the online journal (link in bio) and I love exploring boundaries in counselling sessions. Reach out if you want some support.

02.01.2022 That experience, that pain, that void, that numbness, that sense of 'imperfection' that's information, that's wisdom, that's the thing that is nudging you one step closer to that light/lightness that is starting to get in.

02.01.2022 Have you ever had dry or bumpy lips? Fordyce spots are those odd whitish bumps that come up on the lips and don't seem to go away. Fordyce spots are just generally harmless but visible sebaceous glands (oil glands). To reduce their visibility and to to treat your lips generally you can mix a teeny tiny dot of the Potent Retinol Serum (in stock on the online store) in with your moisturiser and apply over your lips! Bonus is that the Potent Retinol Serum is phenomenal on the face and décolletage too! Drop me a line if you need support and guidance with this

01.01.2022 Unfortunately Dan Andrews has announced that skin/beauty and massage services will remain closed until November 23rd. I’m so sorry that I won’t be able to see many of you who have booked in Sept and Oct hoping things would be okay. I remain open for online Counselling and online skin consultations and support. The online shop is open for you to purchase your products, meditations and gift vouchers. I want to say a MASSIVE thank you for your support in this time. It means a... lot that you are continuing to check in with me around your skin needs and that I’m seeing some of you for counseling too. I can’t wait to see you in person in November. I’ll be in touch closer to then to reschedule existing bookings, with priority given to those of you who have had a Sept/Oct booking cancelled. I hope this summer will see us feeling strong, full of wisdom and strength. Much love you you all! XX Allison
