25.01.2022 Are you an over eater? This is a great read. Understanding the biological processes as well as your cues (social, emotional and environment) can help you put strategies in place to manage it.

24.01.2022 Regular eye checks are so important! Especially for women during pregnancy which can speed up the progression of retinopathy.

23.01.2022 I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and write a post about buying Aussie branded milk! I've been excited to see the cheap milk remaining on the shelf at the supermarkets and the branded milk close to gone. Yes an important tip is to ask staff for more branded milk or to go elsewhere if there isn't any available - lots of rumours about supermarkets not restocking the fridges. I'm excited because as consumers we DO have the power to change this. We created a change with free range eggs many years ago and continue to influence this market. Don't ever think that just 1 person or 1 sale won't make a difference - it certainly can.

18.01.2022 Amazing words by Zoe Nicholson - figureate Dietitian! Let's stop using the scales as the only way to assess our "health".

18.01.2022 A clinical trial has revealed that metformin may help people with type 1 diabetes by increasing numbers of vascular stem cells and promoting the user's ability to repair damaged blood vessels. "Metformin could routinely be used by patients with type 1 diabetes to help lower their chances of developing heart disease, by increasing a repair mechanism created by vascular stem cells released from the bone marrow. "For the first time, this study has shown metformin has additional ...benefit beyond improving diabetes control when given to patients with relatively well controlled type 1 diabetes. We have established the drug increases the patient's own vascular stem cells, which will help delay or slow down heart disease." - Newcastle (UK) Senior Lecturer in Diabetes Medicine, Dr. Jolanta Weaver. 13.01.2022 Women with unmanaged gestational diabetes are at greater risk of adverse #pregnancy outcomes, and both mother and child are at increased risk of later development of type 2 diabetes. This website is a great resource if you want to learn more about managing your diabetes and what to do after your pregnancy... http://www.womenwithgestationaldiabetes.com/

09.01.2022 An exciting new device for monitoring your glucose levels without the need for the ongoing painful finger pricking is now available in Australia. Unfortunately at $95 per fortnight for the sensor pads, it's not affordable for everyone. Nevertheless, it's good to see new products paving the way for innovative and simple management techniques and hopefully we see these come down in cost of the next few years.

08.01.2022 School's back and it's a good time to have a conversation about the roles and responsibilities of managing #diabetes at school. #As1Diabetes http://bit.ly/2jalSv4

06.01.2022 Does stress eating sound familiar? You're not alone, it appears 38% of adults do. Studies found that this eating behaviour isn't inherited, but develops during early childhood. Kids pick up this habit when adults offer food to soothe their distress, a strategy commonly used.

06.01.2022 Risk of dying early is influenced more by behaviours than by weight

05.01.2022 The University of Sydney is looking for participants living with type 1 diabetes for a study on how the type of protein in a meal influences blood glucose levels. If you are interested please contact Dr Kirstine Bell at [email protected] or 02 8627 4250.

05.01.2022 Oh I love this idea! A diabetes kit for dolls :)

04.01.2022 Currently I am reading a fabulous book by psychologist Jo Cormack. It is all about raising children who have a positive relationship with food. To help them wit...h this, we as parents/educators/carers need to stop the diet talk in front of children (and ideally all the time). Diet talk (positive or negative) is associated with body dissatisfaction, external control (letting others dictate what we should eat and how we should look) and restriction (which can lead to obsession). So please talk kindly to yourself and your children about food and your body. See more

04.01.2022 Trying to wrap your head around the concept of carbohydrates, glycemic index and insulin? This TED video may help!

04.01.2022 If you would like to help the Aussie farmers who have been affected by cyclone Debbie: Keep buying their produce, even when the price goes up. If bananas sudden...ly cost $5 a kilo instead of $2 a kilo don't complain. They're still a darn sight cheaper than a chocolate bar at $55 a kilo (when you work out what a typical small chocolate bar costs per kilo, this is how expensive it is!). Tomatoes are set to go up, capsicums, and other fruit and veg. So, help the farmers. Spend less money on expensive supplements/acai powders or matcha green tea lattes. Buy one less mars bar and spend that money on bananas with a higher than normal price.Keep buying their produce, even if it's a little more expensive. Think of the big picture. Try and help where you can.

01.01.2022 "If we are interested in challenging the narrow definition of an ideal body type and weight, we not only need to put an end to fat shaming, we also need to stop thin praising. For without calling into question the praise we bestow on people for losing weight, fat shaming will persist." - Afshan Jafar Thank you to Body Peace and Liberation for alerting us to this important article. - Jodie, Healthy Balance Fitness
