25.01.2022 Is your child on risperidone or aripiprazole? Is your child being monitored with the recommended blood tests while on these medications? These blood tests include: blood glucose level and/or hemoglobin A1C, lipid profile, prolactin, aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, and prolactin. These are the recommendations from The Canadian Alliance for Monitoring Effectiveness and Safety of Antipsychotics in Children (CAMESA). Unfortunately, even in Canada, paediatricians are ignoring these guidelines. These guidelines are to ensure the best outcome for your child. Take a copy of this paper to your next paediatrician visit. https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/cap.2020.0096

24.01.2022 Further to my previous post. An example of what may happen if comprehensive testing for nutritional deficiencies is not done in children with restrictive eating patterns. The resulting range of diagnostic testing that may be required far outways the trauma of a single blood draw. Although scurvy and vitamin C have been singled out here, there is a whole range of other nutritional deficiencies that can also occur. AND we are not even talking of suboptimal levels of nutrients. There is a reported case of scurvy in a child, where vitamin C was within the reference range, but at the lower end of the range!

24.01.2022 Popular opinion is just that, opinion. Research is continually changing how we think about and treat many conditions. Autism is no exception. Autism research has shown that there is so much that we can do for our ASD children. One treatment DOES NOT fit all. Because there are so many subtypes of autism. Autism needs to be individualised to each child. Biomed parents have lead the way in optimising treatments for their children. Yes some mistakes have been made - but these were just learning opportunities for the parents that followed.

23.01.2022 Conventional autism treatment has changed little over the last 25 years. However, many dedicated parents are achieving amazing results with their children by utilising modified diets, nutritional supplements and many other interventions. These parents are the pioneers, that have taught parents like me what works, what to expect when things go wrong, and what to do about it. There is much more we can do for our ASD children. 22.01.2022 Parents often say that their child is laughing for no apparent reason. To the extent that some say that "He looks like he's drunk"! Or they may wake in the middle of the night and start laughing. What does it mean? May be due to yeast overgrowth in the child's gut.

21.01.2022 So many children exhibiting challenging behaviours. Parents stressed and at their wits end as to what to do. Behavoural therapy only of limited use? Pharmaceutical medication not working or causing side effects? Well there is very good research that shows that diet and gut health can have a profound effect on behaviour. I present parents with the research. Often its not what parents want to hear BUT it is what parents NEED to hear. AND it will help your child make gains in so many other ways. 19.01.2022 So how to protect yourself from the inevitable corona virus and influenza virus exposure that most of us will encounter? The obvious solution is to boost your immune system. A strong immune system will clear the virus quickly and develop ongoing immunity. Start with vitamin C. Doesn't have to be massive doses. Smaller and frequent doses are usually adequate. Plus there are many more options to help boost your immune system.

19.01.2022 I can see the panic beginning, even in Australia, with the spread of the Corona Virus. Supermarket shelves emptying of toilet paper and other consumables. But I wonder what parents of children with restricted eating habits are going to do, once their children's "favourite" food may not be available. How are people going to cope, if fast food chains are unable to get the chemical additives that go into their products, and unable to produce their products. People will need to go back to basics and start cooking from scratch. Rather than "assembling" a meal from packets of processed food. Eating fresh nutritious food boosts immunity and resistance to infection.

18.01.2022 Insomnia in autism is a common problem. Melatonin is often used to help with sleep issues in autistic children. However parents often are concerned about the safety of using melatonin longterm. Parents sometimes are concerned that they have heard that melatonin may be detrimental for a child's sexual development or growth. Well here is a study that followed autistic children on melatonin for up to 2 years. The melatonin used was a relatively high dose, up to 10mg in some children, and slow release so they were exposed to melatonin for up to 8 hours. Conclusion of the study, melatonin is safe for longterm use.

17.01.2022 Getting supplements into children can be tricky at the best of times. Often parents will start with putting a child's supplement into their food or drink. That may work initially, but often when you start introducing more supplements, all of a sudden they go off that food or drink. This problem is compounded in children that have picky or restricted eating habits. All of a sudden they have restricted eating yet another food. Often it is best to give supplements seperately by whatever means a child will accept. More advice coming with tips from clever parents as to how they managed to get supplements into their child. Parents can be very inventive when they need to be!

16.01.2022 Autism parents implementing biomedical treatments for their children, are a unique for their dedication in researching and implementing the best available autism research. These are the parents pushing the boundaries of autism treatment. They are "citizen autism scientists". We have learnt valuable lessons from their experiences. Current research is slowly catching up with their findings. The importance of gut health The importance of diet and nutrition The importance of targ...eted supplements The co-morbidities that these children often have and need to be treated The biochemical variability in these children The fact that there are many "autisms", which all need to be treated individually See more

16.01.2022 So autism incidence is rising in Australia. It appears that more milder cases are being diagnosed than in previous years. However, these children still need support and will eventually grow into adults. How prepared is Australia to support this increase in individuals on the autism spectrum? Many parents are already struggling to get the support that they need for their autistic children and adults. Will Australia's economy be able to afford to provide them and their parents ...the support that they need? After the bushfire crisis, corona virus, and probable global recession - probably not. Parents will be back to where we were 20 years ago, where parents had to find their own solutions. Many biomed parents doing diet, supplements, gut health, in addition to conventional therapy have achieved pretty impressive results, and continue to do so. Research is now validating many of the treatments that they have pioneered. See more

15.01.2022 Fifteen-year-old John Gurdon was ranked last out of the 250 boys of his class in biology and was in the bottom in every other science subject. He was issued a report card in 1949 that described his hopes to become a scientist "quite ridiculous" and said if he couldn't learn simple facts "it would be a sheer waste of time" to teach him. In 2012 his pioneering work in stem cells was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Originally posted by Free Range Learning. We need different kinds of minds!

14.01.2022 "Virtual Autism" is a new concept that I have just come across. Since the trend is to communicate via electronic devices, it may be that a whole new generation is evolving in which their ability to handle the intricate details of a direct conversation, especially non-verbal skills, may be affected. May indeed be yet another autism subgroup, or a co-ocurring condition.

14.01.2022 We need to listen to individuals on the spectrum to truly understand autism. Girls on the spectrum have been particularly misunderstood.

14.01.2022 "If sugar can change the brain's reward system after only 12 days, as we saw in the case of the pigs, you can imagine that natural stimuli, such as learning or social interaction, are pushed into the background and replaced by sugar and/or other 'artificial' stimuli." 12.01.2022 Here is an interesting research study that those considering or are currently implementing the Nemechek Protocol may be interested in. Considering that lowering propionic acid in the brain is a key component of the Nemechek protocol, this study on oxircetam may be of interest. Oxircetam is considered to be a cognitive enhancer. In this study it effectively reversed the effects of propionic acid in the brain as well as improved neuroinflammatory, biochemical and neurotransmitter levels. It also improved behavioural outcomes, suggesting it may be useful in easing some of the core symptoms of autism.

11.01.2022 There are many behaviours that children on the autism spectrum exhibit, which can be feeectively treated. It is not uncommon to hear parents reporting that children who are chewing on their clothes and other non-food items are low in zinc. Supplement with zinc and the chewing often stops. Zinc is an importantmineral for optimal mental and gut health. It is a universal mineral essential for all of our children's body systems.

11.01.2022 As we celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another, it's a time for parents to reflect on their children's achievements, and plan for their future. Reflect on the progress your child has made this year. Will next year be the same? Or are you hoping for a better outcome? Or are you terrified that it will be worse?... In my latest video I reflect on the state of our children's mental and physical health. We can help them achieve amazing results. Past generations of parents have already shown us that this a real and achievable goal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kow0ifHJowU See more

11.01.2022 There are many professionals that have a wealth of autism knowledge. Many have personal experience, as they also have a child on the autism spectrum. Parents need to learn how to access their wisdom. It is available and surprisingly easy to access if you know where to look. If you want the best advice, then seek out the practitioners that have the most experience, and not just recommending a specific protocol for every autistic child. ... There is much more that we can do for our ASD children.

11.01.2022 Picky eating in children, and especially in autism can be very challenging. However, we can always get our children to eat better. Think that is impossible? Introducing my picky/ restricted eating video series. I look at what may be driving picky/restricted eating in children, and how to go about getting children to eat a wider range of nutritious foods. The series will look at underlying medical issues for selective eating in children. Avoidance behaviour, especially in auti...stic children at mealtimes. The parent-child relationship and how important it is to ensure they eat well. Tips on how to get your child to eat a wider variety of nutritious foods. Finally, I will be presenting a few case studies of severe food restriction in children, and what we can learn from these real-life experiences. So, join me as I discuss picky/restricted eating in children, and how we need to rethink, how to get these children to eat well again. https://youtu.be/Cisw2iu9bUQ

11.01.2022 A funny thing is happening in New York - doctors are giving vitamin C to corona virus patients! Why? Because doctors in China were using intraveneous vitamin C. Strange how vitamin C is being used in hospitals without "evidence-based" studies all of a sudden. Low and behold they are also finding it to be effective. Same as naturopaths have known for years that vitamin C is effective in fighting infections. Now the bad news, we do not recommend the chewables or gummy bears tha...t are full of sugar. Sugar actually downregulates the immune system. Not something that we want to be doing right now. Also waving a huge flag to say that vitamin D is also very important in maintaining a healthy immune system. So will we be using intraveneous vitamin C for our critically ill patients in Australia - probably not. Get to a good naturopath before it's too late!! https://nypost.com//new-york-hospitals-treating-coronavi/ See more

11.01.2022 The Relationship Between the Level of Copper, Lead, Mercury and Autism Disorders. This meta-analysis study, published in a pediatric journal (of all places) uses some strong language in its conclusions, rather than the "fluffy" conclusions that I am used to seeing. " there was a significant relationship between mercury concentration and autism, there was also a significant relationship between lead concentration and autism." "There is, nevertheless, a significant relationship between mercury concentration and autism. Thus, the concentration of mercury can be listed as a pathogenic cause (disease-causing) for autism." The use of the term "disease" may be inappropriate, nevertheless the conclusion is significant. https://www.dovepress.com/the-relationship-between-the-leve

11.01.2022 This must be the first sign that the world is truly going mad. We are told that 90% of adults dont eat the recommended servings of vegetables and fruit. Prompting warnings of increased risk of disease. But if a child doesnt eat vegetables or fruit or vegetables, thats fine because they LOOK HEALTHY! Is there any hope for our childrens future with this mentality? Click on the link to my video blogs and website.... https://linktr.ee/allnaturaladvantage See more

10.01.2022 Medical professionals have no problem with using pharmaceutical drugs "off-label", meaning that they have not been tested and approved for use in children. However, once the gluten free, casein free diet is mentioned, OMG this is so dangerous! Really? But with all the drug side effects- that's ok! This is not an even playing field.

10.01.2022 Plastic baby bottles shed millions of microplastics. I have always been concerned about plastic baby feeding bottles being used to prepare formula for infants. This current study confirms the extent of the problem. On the ABC morning news, a representative from the Howard Florey Institute also confirmed that the plastics that are used for the infant feeding pouches on supermarket shelves are also a concern. How many remember when feeding bottles were all glass and all baby foods on supermarket shelves were all in glass? How about that water bottle left in the car in summer? https://theconversation.com/bottle-fed-babies-may-consume-m

10.01.2022 There are so many social media websites out there, each with their opinion on how to support and treat your autistic child. Unfortunately, it is mostly their opinion and not based on current autism reseach. Autism research has progressed exponentially in recent years. Choose an autism group or tribe that aligns with your belief. Mine was to find the best group that shared autism research, parent experiences with diet, supplements and other therapies. Where children were showing great progress. We wern't looking to cure or recover our children. Only to give them the best start in life we could. The fact that many did lose their diagnosis, was a bonus.

09.01.2022 The Gut Microbiota and Oxidative Stress in Autism. More research linking what is happening in the gut and oxidative stress to autism. Most parents I talk to now, know exactly what I am talking about when I mention the gut-brain-axis. But they rarely connect their child’s gut issues, constipation, loose stools, abdominal pain, bloating, malodorous stool or flatulence, picky eating, etc, with their child’s behaviour. Studies like this just keep confirming that this is a quite common issue in autism. The question is if we address these issues in your child, will it make a difference? The science definitely shows an improvement in behaviour and the child’s quality of life. Still need more evidence stay tuned! https://www.hindawi.com/journals/omcl/2020/8396708/

09.01.2022 There are many medical issues that can cause a child to be a picky or restricted eater. Medical issues can include a wide range of gut issues, allergies or intolerances, medications causing a change in appetite, and nutritional deficiencies. This is particularly true of children on the autism spectrum. Before forcing your child to eat or enrolling them into feeding therapy, get them thoroughly assessed, to make sure that there are no underlying issues preventing them from eating. If you dont, all you may do is to stress your child and make their feeding issue worse. https://youtu.be/MrKo4cqCWoA

09.01.2022 The research into a link between autism children's gut health and autism symptoms just continues to get stronger and more convincing. Every ASD child should have a comprehensive gastrointestinal evaluation and referral to a gastrenterologist if there is any suspicion of an underlying gut issue. Especially in non-verbal children. Now finding a qualified gastroenterologist that understands the importance of gut health and autism symptoms - that's the hard part!

09.01.2022 There is so much more that we can do for our autistic children. Making sure that they get the nutrition they need for a healthy body, mind and gut should be a basic right for the child. See link for my video blogs, website pages and newsletter. linktr.ee/allnaturaladvantage

08.01.2022 Has anyone else stopped to contemplate this question? What if the neurodiversity movement is right? That autism is just being better diagnosed these days. If that is indeed true, then how come these individuals had much better outcomes and quality of life than the current generations of neurodiverse individuals?

07.01.2022 From my Instagram feed........ That tricky question of whether to test children who are restricted eaters for nutritional deficiencies. The rational, logical brain says "yes". The emotional brain says "no way". "Trauma" is the word most commonly brought up when discussing bloodwork, but you never know how a child will react until it actually happens. Is living with iron deficiency anaemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, iodine deficiency, or lately reports of scurvy in children ju...stified? Also keep in mind that iron and zinc deficiency can decrease a childs appetite further. Parents should take the opportunity to have a comprehensive blood panel done if their child is required to have anaesthesia for any procedure (i.e. dental work, tonsillectomy). The anaesthesiast can take the blood draw. Also ask to be referred to blood collection centres that have staff experienced in collecting blood from children. Get in touch with the blood collection centre to let them know you are coming and when well beforehand. Use play therapy to prepare your child for the blood draw. See more

07.01.2022 We've just got used to the idea of bacterial microbial diversity in the gut. Now the whole microbiome gets even more complex as viruses (and foods that affect these viruses) can affect the overall microbiome by pruning one species, they provide space for other species to fill.viruses can affect the overall microbiome by pruning one species, they provide space for other species to fill. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/327486.php

05.01.2022 The Nemechek protocol is all the rage at the moment. This study investigated the effect of bee pollen and propolis to decrease the inflammatory mediator, propionic acid, in a animal model. Both were found to be effective in decreasing propionic acid. So should we be considering the use of these two compounds in addition to inulin in the Nemechek protocol?

05.01.2022 Presenting parents with the latest autism or ADHD research, will NOT motivate most parents to do any more to help their autism or ADHD children. I could never understand why. Until an interview with a Professor of Philosophy, and insights from my son, helped me understand that I have been talking to parents in the WRONG language. My latest video explains why. https://youtu.be/Rhvi6QKO8mk

03.01.2022 My new video is out. This is a documentary of a girl that was born with a gut defect, and even though the defect was surgically corrected, she still refused to eat or drink anything, for SEVEN YEARS. It took a specialist clinic in Austria to get her to eat and drink again. How they did it is an amazing story! This is an inspiring story for parents with a child that is a picky or restricted eater. It shows that with the right approach and support, getting a child to eat again is possible. Ultimately, the biggest gift you can give to your child, is to give them the best nutritional foundation, for the rest of their life! https://youtu.be/mt4ng54zdgc

03.01.2022 Children often crave carbs. Carbs deplete B group vitamins. A deficiency of B group vitamins will deplete their calming neurotransmitters like GABA and serotonin. Lower dopamine levels, so they can't concentrate. And affect melatonin production, so they can't sleep. Give them B group vitamins instead of a psychiatric label!

02.01.2022 Sugar causing aggression and other behavioural issues. The debate will no doubt continue, but research is honing in why this may be so. This is a quick read. If interested follow the links in the article for more. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases//10/201016112903.htm

02.01.2022 Air quality in some areas of Australia is the worst in the world due to the bushfires. The smoke, due to the fine particles is more toxic than most smoke. Here are some tips to help minimise and deal with the toxic effects of the smoke. Here in Melbourne, the smoke haze is a constant reminder of the losses that many have suffered. With temperatures about to rise again, country is bracing for new outbreaks of fire. As Australians we are resilient and it brings out the best in our people. Many thanks to the support from our friends overseas. Your kindness will be repaid one day.

01.01.2022 Give the perfect gift for your child at Xmas. A healthy start in life.

01.01.2022 Imagine if you took your ASD child to the doctor, and he actually gave you some UNBIASED ADVICE on nutrition and supplements for your child!!!

01.01.2022 Yet another autism parent was asking me today about a new supplement to improve speech. However, their child is still having gut issues, is in "fight or flight" mode, and having problems sleeping. There is no point spending money on a supplement or protocol that may help speech, if you don't address the basics first. Gut, diet, sleep and anxiety. Otherwise you are wasting money and valuable time. Do the basics FIRST, and build a solid foundation on which you can continue to build. linktr.ee/allnaturaladvantage
