25.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE ! Just sharing this post from another page. Hi all. Today I witnessed a very distraught young mum at a Vet surgery carrying out her 6 month old Gol...den Retriever pup who had just passed away. According to the vet nurse, the mum had let her pup out to toilet and went to check, only to find him with a mushroom / toadstool in his mouth. Taking no chances she rushed him to the vets (20 minutes away) but sadly it was too late. In Queensland and NSW we have had a lot of rain and high humidity of the past few days. These fungi can appear before your very eyes given the conditions. Please share amongst your groups just how toxic mushrooms can be. Not all fungi are toxic, but most of us can't tell the good ones from the bad ones. See more

23.01.2022 Off Leash Parks are Not Socialisation Ever wondered why your dog gets hectic in off leash areas and why when back on leash he or she is a bit reactive to other ...dogs. The cause is too much uncontrolled off leash exposure and not just to dogs. Most people are conditioned to take their dogs to off leash parks all innocently in the name of socialisation. Sadly this is not the way to go. The meaning of Socialisation is "learning to be social within constraints". There is nothing controlled about an off leash park. Off leash parks are a breeding ground for impulsive behaviour that in the vast majority of cases is detrimental to teaching dogs how to interact. If you have ever attended off leash parks I am sure you can identify with the following; The Bully - This is the dog that runs around smashing into other dogs and being a nuisance, The Herder - This is the frustrated herding dog that is continuously running around trying to herd all the dogs and sometimes kids, The Ball Thief - This is the ball obsessed dog that just wants every ball being thrown, The Unsure Dog - This is the dog that never leaves the owner's side and is not at all comfortable. While dogs enjoy playing and get to expel some energy, the potential for problems to occur is very high. In my role as an Expert Witness for court, by far the majority of assessments I have to do are from dog to dog and dog to human incidents in off leash parks. The best place to take your dog to learn how to be social is a well run professional dog training center which allows on and off leash interaction under guidance and control. Dogs need to play and run but they also need to have their behaviours directed and made socially appropriate. 16.01.2022 WARNING!!! DO NOT GIVE THESE SO-CALLED "TREATS" TO YOUR DOGS!!! THEY CAN POTENTIALLY KILL THEM!! Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treats many stor...es are now starting to stock for dogs at Xmas. Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! Please be safe with your dogs! 12.01.2022 If anyone gets a rash like this please please please don’t ignore it! I was bitten last week on a dog walk, it didn’t itch or hurt... I developed the ‘bullseye’... rash and I’m now on antibiotics for 21 days in order to prevent lymes disease. Turns out I was bitten by ticks in the long grass I almost didn’t go docs as it wasn’t painful but if you look up just how serious this can be I’m so so glad I did. I have been very tired and a bit more forgetful than I am usually. These are apparently all little signs. Please share... 08.01.2022 UPDATE: Rosie & Chief have a new home ROSIE and CHIEF will continue their lives together - we have had a wonderful family contact us and offer to home both ...ROSIE and CHIEF together. Their new owners have followed our dogs for sometime now, and after the sad loss of their dog to cancer some time back, were ready to open their home and hearts to not one, but two new forever companions Thank you to all enquiries. CURRENTLY AVAILABLE CHIEF and ROSIE are looking for the right FAMILY home/s after their family have made the decision their lives were going in different directions and are divorcing. This was not an easy decision for their family, and all, including their children, are very upset that ROSIE and CHIEF could not stay with them. We’ve since had them flown home to us from interstate to find loving forever homes. They have been with us a little while now. Are you the right family for ROSIE and/or CHIEF?? We are looking for families that can provide a similar lifestyle that CHEIF and ROSIE are accustomed. Being raised in a beach community, they attended beach walks and swims daily. They have been raised in an active full time working family environment with two young children, including a newborn baby ROSIE is highly suitable to an active family - a family that is willing to provide her with continuation training in obedience, and a family who loves walking, jogging or swimming everyday. ROSIE loves the water, however she is not the strongest swimmer...she especially enjoys chasing the hose water ROSIE is highly active, athletic and agile. She possesses high ball drive and fast retrieves and is an absolute pocket rocket with this game. When playing ball she will drop the ball at your feet when asked Around the home, ROSIE has demonstrated affection and stable temperament with our four young children and a strong desire to interact with people. ROSIE will sit for her meal. She is clean inside the home, kennels and travels well. ROSIE has demonstrated good social acceptance of our male dogs and has not demonstrated any dog reactivity since being with us - we expect ROSIE will be most happy sharing her home with either (CHIEF) or another male dog. ROSIE is a desexed, 2 year old, solid black female. ROSIE was from our ALL BLACKS litter who were sired by HIPERION ARDEN BSC2 HIT AD IPO3 FH and out of VONDARCOR ARQUINN BH. She is full sister to highly accomplished ANKC obedience competitor, RALLY (All Blacks Thorn). She is a granddaughter of VONAMMERBERG ELDO (aka BANDIT) and NIVO vom LUBARSER SCHLOSSCHEN. CHIEF is highly suitable to an active family - a family that is willing to provide him with continuation training in obedience, and a family who loves walking, jogging or swimming everyday. CHIEF loves the water, he is a strong swimmer CHIEF is an active and athletic male. He possesses good ball drive and excellent retrieves. When playing ball he will drop the ball at your feet when asked Around the home, CHIEF has demonstrated affection and stable temperament with our four young children and a good desire to interact with his people. CHIEF will sit for his meal. He is clean inside the home, kennels and travels well. CHIEF has demonstrated good social acceptance of one of our male dogs and has not demonstrated any dog reactivity since being with us. However, he did apparently show some reactivity while in new environments while walking with his female owner previously. We expect CHIEF will be most happy sharing his home with either ROSIE, or another non-dominant female dog, or he would also be happy on his own. CHIEF is a desexed, 2 year old, dark sable male. CHIEF is from our N litter who were sired by VONAMMERBERG ELDO (aka BANDIT) and VONDARCOR FOLA. ROSIE and CHIEF are being sold with pedigree papers, desexed, fully vaccinated, treated for internal and external parasites, and a veterinary health check and certificate prior to departure. If you and your family feel you may be the right fit for ROSIE and/or CHIEF and are able to commit to their requirements, or you’d like further information - initial contact can be made via this page (PM) or through email: [email protected] *** Photos are all recent, as of this morning ***

08.01.2022 Post by Aldo Cecchi PROXENY IN DOGS. AGGRESSIVE OR VICTIM?... About 15 years ago a group brought to me a neutered male dog that had disfigured the face of a woman deeply related to animal protectionism, the question was that the dog for a recommendation of several trainers and veterinarians should be euthanized. When I started to work with him, the first thing I discovered was that it was not aggressive at all, only that he was very insecure when we approached directly towards him, but as we always respected him in his personal spaces and made him come towards us, his aggressiveness was always shown at zero, therefore, my diagnosis was that the dog could not be sacrificed for aggression, I made an interview with the victim, I asked her at that moment and circumstance the dog had bitten her, who confessed that in her deep love for dogs she had only wanted to give to our canine patient a hug and a kiss and that he had responded by biting her face wildly. then my question was whether after the first bite he had continued the "attack", she replied no, that the dog rather took distance. The dog in question that bit the face of the protectionist, was not aggressive, he defended himself, since she abruptly penetrated his private spaces and this is an act of aggression, and obviously that the dog responded with a defensive bite that it cannot be taken with flagrant aggression, hence one of the main divisions of aggression is defensive or offensive, both are very different. For a better understanding, we need to know about Space Bubble or also known as Proxeny or Proxenia, these different words do nothing but a reference to the study of the use and perception of social and personal space. Analyze how people use and respond to spatial relationships in the establishment of formal or informal groups, although it is a treatise between humans, we can very well take it to the plane of the rest of the animals, and that is the reason for this article, that you learn to respect the space of all the beings with whom you share the environment, so as not to attack and less to be attacked. These unwritten laws stablish the spaces to be respected when we interact with another person obviously that is not the same if these people are unknown or familiar, and that is reflected in the distances we drive between one body and another, so rules can be established generally when a person exceeds that space, therefore, would be invading this "Space Bubble" that belongs to us and we can feel that he/she violates our territory, which means an aggression. According to the proxeny, there are four zonal instances: 1) Intimate distance: It is a foot long, this distance is what the person takes care of it as his private property like body and belongings, this zone only can be crossed by relatives and close friends. 2) Personal distance: It is between 1 foot and 4 feet long. It is the distance between known and trusted people, but with lower emotional feelings, such as a co-worker or a classmate. 3) Social Distance: It is between 4 feet and 10 feet. It is the distance that separates us from strangers. People with whom we have little or no relationship. It is used by formal conversations. 4) Public Distance: It is given over 10 feet and has no limit. The tone of voice is high and is used in public areas. These distances are not applicable to all individuals, as there are cultural and demographic factors that can influence, and In animal behavior, these territorial issues are even more marked and are evidenced in more aggressive responses. It is outstanding how humans understand these social rules and respect them when they interact with other humans, but at the same time, they are not conscious about them when they interact with animals, even more with dogs, and this mistake is more frequent between animal lovers. Love and respect go for the same way! For instance, whether a person surprise us with a hug and a kiss being a member of our family, we take it as something nice, but if the person is a complete strange we will take it as an attack, and we will response aggressively because this person has not our authorization to penetrate in our bubble personal. It is a lack of respect! Why is it so easy to understand this between humans and not when we interact with dogs? when you meet a dog, which so far is strange, do not pounce on him/her, just thinking that because you are a dog lover, he/she will understand you. You must think that he/she does not know you and that your behavior is being a threat, then he/she will surely think that you want to hurt him/her, therefore he/she is going to respond aggressively bitting you in a defensive aggression because the real attack is coming from you for your lack of the respect of his/her bubble space. The best way to interact with a unknow dog, it will always be to respect distances, reading the calming signals that the dogs give us when he/she shows us them, it is for the stress that we cause them with our presence, being signs of authorization the open mouths with tongues outside, and when he/she come towards us, whether on the contrary, he/she refuses to come us, or closes his/her mouth, licks his/her face, yawns, looks away, is telling us please, stop threatening. If you think that you can reach all dogs, hug them, and kiss them, just because you are a dog lover that just want to help them, is a conceptual error, which can cost us dearly and even more to the dog that after biting you will be called aggressive without really being it. Learning this is an excellent way to prevent dog bites, and topic that should be of a state politics, and even more school matter since in children it is essential because can prevent more than 50% of the bites in them. Aldo Cecchi.

08.01.2022 I am a Dobermann, cataloged one of the most intelligent and most feared dogs, I have served the US Navy and I will not narrate my dark past on the German side.... They called me the devil's dog, today they ask me to behave like a Poodle, they have gone so far as to wear clothes ... I am a Malinois: Gifted among dogs, I shine in all disciplines and I am always ready to work. Today they ask me to relax on the couch all day. I am an Akita Inu: My ancestors have been selected to fight with other dogs. Today they ask me to be tolerant of my peers, and they blame me for my reactivity when one of them approaches me. I am a Beagle: When I followed my prey, I gave a voice so that the hunters could follow me. I was leading the dance. Today they put an electric collar on me to silence me, and they want me to return to the call in a snap of fingers. I am a Yorkshire Terrier: I was a rat catcher, fearsome in the English mines. Today they think that I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms. I am a Labrador Retriever: My vision of happiness is a dip in a pond to bring my master the duck he just shot. Today we forget that I am a sports dog, I am fat and I have to babysit the children. I am a Jack Russell Terrier: I am capable of facing a fox larger than me in its own den. Today they blame me for my damn character and want to turn me into a parlor dog. I am a Siberian husky: I got to know the great spaces of northern Russia, where I could pull sledges at impressive speed. Today I only have the walls of the garden on my horizon, and my only occupation is the holes I dig in the ground. I am a Border Collie: I am cut out to work eight hours a day, and I am an incomparable artist of herd labor. Today they blame me because in the absence of sheep, I try to control bicycles, cars, children from home, and everything that is in motion. I am... I'm a 19th century dog I am handsome, I am alert, I am obedient, I can put up with being in a purse ... but I am also an individual who needs to express his instincts, and I am not suitable for the sedentary life that you want me to carry. Spending eight hours a day alone on the patio, seeing you a little at night when you come back, and being entitled to any activity just a short walk to the bathroom will make me deeply unhappy. I'll express it by barking all day, turning your garden into a minefield, relieving myself on the inside, being unmanageable the few times I'll find myself on the outside, and sometimes spending my days on my cushion, then you'll think I'm happy to To be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work: in reality I will be in full depression, because it is not the preference of the human, but also that of the dog of the XXI century. If you like me, if you dream of me forever, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athlete look make you want to possess me, but you can't give me a real life of a full dog, a life that is really worth living, and if not you can offer me the job my genes claim ... then quit me. If you like my rhythm but are not ready to accept my character traits from rigorous genetic selection, and you think you can change them with your only good will ... then quit me. I'm a 19th century dog, yes. But, deep there, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who led a herd still sleeps. And sooner or later, you will wake up. For better or worse. Elsa Weiss Éducation Canine / Cynopolis Translation edited by Razas Poderosas y de Trabajo.
