03.01.2022 With thanks to Mr. Almond for a succinct summary of the literature - reading is a neurological process, supported by scientific evidence. Talking about academic vocabulary, relevant to language found in books and therefore in the classroom is essential. This type of talk supports reading comprehension. Explicit, systematic, and sufficiently repetitious instruction of phonics is equally essential so that students can read accurately. Neglect or mishandle this aspect of readi...ng, lstudents of all ages are effectively locked out of reading in order to learn. This article and those like it, are relevant for everyone involved in teaching reading - Educators, Speech Pathologists and for parents.

These types of books allow therapists, educators and caregivers to go over the letter: sound correspondences explicitly and systematically taught to children. Children are able to see these patterns again in a text, and able to achieve success when reading! Learning to read is a code to crack & these books help young readers & those who find reading a challenge to succeed in cracking it!
