23.01.2022 "Making do is a deeply pragmatic philosophy. It means asking of our things the only question we should ever ask of them: Can you fulfill your intended use for me? #seniorsdecluttering https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-the-life-changi/
22.01.2022 Just watched the Minimalists on Netflix - Less is Now. Highly recommend it. Although I am not a minimalist nor agree with everything they say, nor will it be the right approach for many 60+, I appreciate that it may be right for many people. What is amazing is that the profit/$ for all the stuff we buy is going into fewer hands, who are manipulating us to buy more, so more goes in their pocket. Wake up call??... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn-xbOCZOiQ

18.01.2022 It's so hard to find ethical ways to dispose of chemicals and toxic stuff around the house, that's why it's great to take advantage of the Free Detox your Home pickups when in your local area. For Boroondara people, there is a Detox Your Home at Camberwell Recyling Centre on Sat 28 Nov. It is free, but you need to register .... https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au//Event-locations-and

13.01.2022 The horror of the bushfires meant that many had to make quick dashes around their homes to take what they could. This is one lady's revelation about how little her stuff meant ...
13.01.2022 Wishing everyone a glorious, safe and peaceful Xmas. Hopefully you are all minimising "clutter" gifts when giving.
11.01.2022 If you're ageing in your home, good design is helpful to keep organised, particularly in the kitchen, bathroom and wardrobe areas. US Better Homes and Gardens has a useful and interesting feature on universal design and kitchens. https://www.bhg.com//plann/universal-kitchen-design-ideas/
10.01.2022 Reminder that most chemists will take your no longer needed medications. allsorters come across lots of medications that we return to chemists on behalf of clients. Medications cluttering up bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens - we find it in the least likely places around homes. https://startsat60.com//what-to-do-unwanted-medication-saf... #seniorsdecluttering
10.01.2022 This is an interesting interview about clothes with former Vogue India editor Bandana Tewari .... Thought provoking ... I see many beautiful clothes when decluttering with clients. During the week I worked with a gorgeous client who has the most amazing selection of caftans! But I also see too many cheap clothes (Millers!)... And also see too many clothes left in wardrobes for decades - sad because once upon a time they could have been donated, but if you leave it too long they deteriorate #seniorsdecluttering

07.01.2022 "Mary Harnan is an organisational expert from All Sorters, which is based in Balwyn North. She’s helped many families sort and tidy the homes of their loved ones over the years, noting that it’s extremely stressful when ageing parents start to have difficulty with basic tasks like housekeeping. The key, she says, is to take a step back and focus on functionality. It’s not easy, watching your parents age and become dependent. It’s not something we talk about enough, until you...’re actually there and it’s happening to you. We don't want to talk about it, she says. People need to think of their house as a way to allow them to live independently for as long as they can. I tell families we don’t need to make the house perfect, it won’t be a show home, but we can make it easier for someone to get dressed, we can make sure the bathroom is safe so that bathing is easy, we can make sure the kitchen is easy to prepare food in. It’s about making sure the home is functional. It’s important not to go into your mum’s or dad’s home and start taking over, but to make them feel in control and try to help them make small changes they’re comfortable with. That, she says, and to make sure you take plenty of tea breaks to enjoy spending time with them between cleaning." https://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au//tough-times-for-gen/
06.01.2022 Has anyone tried this? "All you need to do is take your stale bread and place it under the tap to moisten it. Then place the bread in the oven at 200 degrees for a couple of minutes. When you remove the bread it should be soft and fresh once more." https://startsat60.com//lifestyle/tips/stale-bread-fresh-a
05.01.2022 I haven't been active on FB during November due to the loss of my beautiful girl Remy. My heart is broken so I hope you understand that I may not post much on this page until next year. Remy was a very special JRT and beloved fur baby who was also allsorters unofficial mascot. She was with me when I started allsorters and gave me unconditional love for nearly 9 years. RIP my gorgeous girl.

03.01.2022 I am often asked for advice from people who have a family member, partner or friend who they think has "Hoarding Disorder" but the friend/partner/relative isn't open to assistance from them, doesn't want a professional's help, yet seems to want to make changes. Not an easy situation, trying to help someone who is sending mixed signals about wanting help! There is a closed Facebook Group - Hoarding/Cluttering Support Group which offers a supportive and non-judgemental enviro...nment. It maybe that your friend or relative would benefit from joining the group. How we think about stuff is the key to rebalancing "stuff" to an acceptable level. It could be that the discussion in the Group may open the door a little to your loved one changing their thinking and maybe even eventually accepting help ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/hcSupportGroup/about/
