14.01.2022 Your foot is in contact with the ground for about 0.8 of a second when walking and about 0.25 seconds when running. This is tough for even the most experienced practitioner to see with the naked eye. But we have a secret up our sleeve The RS Gait Scan pressure plate scans your foot at 500hz and uses 4096 pressure sensors to create measurable static and dynamic dimensions providing your podiatrist with detailed data about of your feet. The software also provides force and pressure distribution information which can be analyzed in visual format allowing us a greater understanding as to why individuals could be suffering frequent biomechanical injuries. For more information or to book an appointment, call us on 6380 1941 or visit www.allsportspodiatryperth.com.au.

05.01.2022 Even as some of the isolation restrictions are being relaxed, it can still be difficult to stay fit and healthy during isolation, especially whilst we work from home . So here at Allsports & Family Physiotherapy we came up with our top 5 tips to help: 1. Maintain the same exercise routine It’s really important to try and maintain your normal routine. If you usually wake up early to work out, then set the alarm early to keep your morning exercise routine. If you are an afterno...on exerciser, make sure you finish work at the normal time and get your sweat on. 2. Stand up and walk around We’ve all done it you’ve finally sat down to work or watch TV when all of a sudden 4 hours goes by and you haven’t moved. Try setting an alarm every 30 or 60 minutes to stand up. Walk outside, get a glass of water or cook some lunch before you sit back down. 3. Workout Apps Strapped for time? Try doing a short workout. Feeling stiff? What about an online yoga class? There are so many home workout classes and apps available at the moment. From Yoga and Pilates to short sharp HIIT workouts to running programs, there are ample options available. Try giving something new a go! 4. Become creative You don’t need a fancy gym to keep fit there’s so many things you can do at home. Try using household items as weights or doing some bodyweight strength exercises. You’ll be amazed at what you can do with no equipment. 5. Walk around whilst on the phone. If you are someone that spends a lot of time on the phone to friends or colleagues, try standing up or walking around during the call (maybe one that isn’t a video call). It will help get the blood flowing and your body moving. You will feel so much better for it. What are your top tips to keep moving?

05.01.2022 Now that we know a bit more about the plantar fasciitis, how do we fix the pain? There are a number of podiatric treatment options available and your podiatrist will create an individualised treatment plan for you. Customised orthotics can help do fix the alignment of your foot allowing a reduction in the amount of tension through the fascia band. Shock wave therapy can help to stimulate the tissue healing and reduce the pain. Home exercises can help gradually load the ligam...ent allowing fibres to align and strengthen meaning it can cope with higher loads. Depending on severity, it may require a period of activity modification to allow the tissues to recover then a tapered return to pre-injury levels. Top 3 DON’Ts: DON’T wear the wrong shoes aim to wear supportive and comfortable ones DON’T immediately resort to medications and injections these complaints usually respond best to a combination of treatments as a well-rounded approach DON’T push through the pain get help, get on top of your pain, and get back to living your best life! If you have heel or foot pain that you think could benefit from podiatry treatment or you would like some advice, give us a call on 6380 1941 or visit www.allsportspodiatryperth.com.au to book an appointment today.

03.01.2022 Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common foot complaints in adult populations and a problem that our podiatrists treat regularly. But what is the plantar fascia and how does it become sore? The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue running under the base of your foot. It originates under the heel and runs to the base of each 5 toes. The role of the PF is to support the arch of your foot and assist in shock absorption each time your foot strikes the ground. As... we spend so much time on our feet, your plantar fascia is subject to high amounts of load throughout your life. Whilst the exact cause of plantar fasciitis is still highly debated, this load as well as possible underlying bony spurs or microtears may lead to inflammation of the fascia causing pain and stiffness. Pain is usually described as a ‘bone bruise’ and is generally worse in the morning after resting or during the day after loading the foot. This problem can no doubt have a massive effect on day to day function, but there are a number of ways you can get on top of your pain. In our next post, we will discuss the treatment options and what you can do at home!! If you have heel or foot pain that you think could benefit from podiatry treatment, give us a call on 6380 1941 or visit www.allsportspodiatryperth.com.au to book an appointment today.
