16.01.2022 I was lucky enough to hear a quick presentation by Griffith University's Professor Wendy Moyle on Wednesday at the Gold Coast Seniors Round Table. Her cutting edge collaboration research on the future of Robotics in Aged Care was fascinating. Getting to cuddle and interact with PARO - the robotic seal, one of the robots designed to assist with dementia care was a highlight! If anyone is wondering about suitable avenues to donate money to - this form of research would be a top ten contender! https://youtu.be/G7P4Jp00kdk

14.01.2022 You can't ask for a better start to an expo really! Thanks to the team at Banora Point Physical Therapies for a wonderful massage.

12.01.2022 I was very touched to be nominated for the 2017 Telstra Women's Business Award. It's coming up to my 2nd anniversary of running All Steps Aged Care and in that time I've helped numerous people into residential aged care, I've helped many more understand the intricacies and effects of their aged care financial structuring, I've run dozens of workshops, I've been the invited aged care specialist on 4CRB's Finance Forum program for over a year, and for more than 6 months I've hosted and interviewed many people for the Your Retirement Years program, also on 4CRB. Much of this community work is a labour of love, and it's lovely to see that it is being recognised by some others in the industry.

03.01.2022 More changes to aged care fees!! In response to the Government cutting an approximate $2 billion dollars worth of funding to aged care facilities over the next 4 years, some private aged care facilities have started charging new fees. These additional service fees (asset replacement contributions, capital refurbishment fees) were the facilties' way of trying to recoup some lost funding and to maintain their level of quality and service provided to residents. There is healt...hy debate happening now where it appears clear that these fees are not permissible under legislation, and if this is tested by the government in court the facilities will have to reimburse residents for any of these fees that have been charged. Be mindful of the contracts you sign when moving into aged care. The facility should clearly itemise all fees and what is received for those fees. Note that additional service fees are different to Extra Service Fees which are charged by facilities who provide a higher standard of facility, meals and additional 'luxuries' ie a glass of wine with meals, more meal choices, daily newspapers, etc.

03.01.2022 I love being part of the 4CRB family!

03.01.2022 Brace yourself for higher aged care costs! Recently the government announced a $1.2 billion cut in funding to residential aged care providers over the next 4 years. While this should not impact the actual aged care fees (accommodation costs, daily care payment) paid by future residents, aged care providers will now either have to face cutting costs (which may be unreasonable when trying to maintain standards of quality and care), or trying to recoup that money somehow. A n...umber of aged care facilities have introduced some new fees for incoming residents. I would expect more facilities to start to do the same over the coming months and years. Some facilities may finally introduce an extra services fee, and some may have to increase the extra services fee they currently charge. For you as a consumer, remember you have the right to shop around to find care that suits your needs and your finances. If someone you know is struggling to find affordable care that meets their needs, please pass on my contact details. [email protected] 0423 871 688 See more

02.01.2022 Now THIS is impressive. I saw this hand-crafted vintage style wedding dress as it was near the end of it's creation by residents at Arcare Hope Island and I was stunned at the time. I'm so proud to see that it's received so much acclaim from many countries. What an excellent, industrious use of time by the residents and staff there.
