25.01.2022 Finally we are down to picking our root crops. Parsnips are slow to dig in our clay loams. Today we are using a long handled trenching shovel but I'm not convinced that this is the best option. Any better suggestions out there? Nonetheless there is still that satisfying "pop" when you loosen a big one

24.01.2022 Are You Ready For Tomato Season? Last year we really loved being able to supply some of you with our home grown seedlings. This year unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we can't do that for you guys -- BUT fear not -- Emily and Michael (A couple of AllSuns brightest Interns back in the day) have got you guys covered! Get out to The Captains Flat Country Markets tomorrow (Saturday) and support the guys from Brightside Produce! - These guys have all your favourite flavours and plenty to go around!!

22.01.2022 Did you know that over ripe bananas are the perfect addition to your soil before planting your tomatoes? Bananas contain loads of potassium, the best fertiliser addition needed for fruiting plants! Add one to the bottom of the soil (peel and all) and plant your tomato directly on top! #AllsunTips #TomatoSeason #GrowingVegetables

20.01.2022 Come Visit Us Today @ The Canberra Christmas Markets! Down at EPIC - We are selling our homegrown garlic Braids and our favourite Ho-Mi’s!!

19.01.2022 OPEN LETTER To Fund Raisers Looking for Donations of Environmentally Responsible Food A few weeks ago we received a letter from The Conservation Council (ACT Region) asking us to be a food sponsor for their World Environment Day Dinner, 2015 to be held at the Canberra Arboretum with farmer/chef Janet Jeffs doing the catering. Of course we were happy to donate some produce- we live and breathe the sentiments of World Environment Day, we laud the work that the ACT Region Con...servation Council does but when we opened the accompanying "food sponsorship package" we felt really disappointed and insulted by the deals being offered. How can well educated, environmentally conscious people be so ignorant of not only the amount of hours it takes to produce the food that we would donate but also of the relatively low dollar value of the donated produce particularly vegetables. Four categories: Gold: Contribution: Over $1,000.00 Silver: Contribution: Over $750.00 and up to $999 Bronze: Contribution: Over $400.00 and up to $749 Other Contributions: Contribution: Up to $399.00 Lets put these four levels of gifting in perspective. Our tiny farm, only 50kms away from the Arboretum, is capable of producing all the vegetables and eggs that a talented chef like Janet Jeffs would need to feed 250 guests attending a fund raising dinner. We could also supply meat (pork) and rhubarb for the dessert. Produce of ours on every plate of every course. Produce which we are paid very fairly for because Janet is a respectful and ethical food buyer. Yet even if we were to donate all this produce our bill is unlikely to be much more than $399, certainly no more than a Bronze donation. What kind of muddled thinking resulted in the Conservation Council's prize winning competitive scheme of food sponsorship rewards which deeply discriminates between the producers of high end products like wine and the more humble offerings of small mixed farmers. It is a sad state of affairs when the donation of some of the core ingredients of a meal are simply relegated to "other contributions". These are high quality, tasty, nutrient dense ingredients. The legacy of over 25 years of soil building and skill. Leaves and fruits and roots that have been lovingly cultivated for a minimum of three months. Meat and eggs that come from animals tended daily sometimes for years. They are pure "Gold". So lets start by trying to raise the status of all farmers but particularly that of organic vegetable growers. This starts by recognising just how much skill and hard work goes into being environmentally responsible stewards of the land and finishes by thinking twice before judging a pair of remarkable work worn hands complete with dirt under the finger nails next time you shop at a farmers market. Put some real value back on the growers who sustain us and try to target people with large disposable incomes when you are fund raising.

07.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that the family here at AllSun Farm confirm the sad news that Mike passed away on Friday with Joyce by his side. He fought gallantly until the end, holding on the life both he and Joyce created together until it was his time to pass. Just like he so dearly wished, he will be buried here at home on AllSun Farm this Saturday 16th September. We find it all too fitting that the land he loved and worked so hard to nurture becomes his final resting place.
