24.01.2022 If you’ve got 40 boats cruising down the Murray River for five days and you haven’t got a boat mechanic, then pardon the French but you are ‘up ship creek witho...ut a paddle!’ As we celebrate #NVW2020 and recognise the contributions volunteers make to the community, our boaties would be in big trouble if not for our trusty boat mechanic Paul Spears from @All Tech Marine Services. Paul generously donates his time to the Mighty River Run and as we remember the value of time as part of @GivingTuesdayAUS, it’s the perfect opportunity to recognise his valuable contribution to the Mighty River Run. As well as his mechanical skills and experience, Paul provides spare parts and equipment to ensure everyone has a safe run and makes it to the finish line in one piece. Although some of the boaties try their best to make sure Paul is kept busy on the journey! Paul’s passion for volunteering for the Run comes from the selflessness of the participants who are all willing to come together for a cause and raise funds for those living with disability. The beauty of the Run for Paul is that one year there’ll be plenty of maintenance he’ll have to carry out, then the following year it’ll be ‘plain sailing’ with most of the crews keeping out of trouble. No two Runs are ever the same. And a highlight of the Mighty River Run for Paul simple, the Lock crossings prepare to get wet, actually change that to soaked! Despite having to relocate his business from Renmark to Mount Gambier due to the recent drought conditions experienced in the Riverland, coupled with the COVID-19 outbreak, our mechanic -‘extraordinaire’s’- business, All Tech Marine Services, is going strong. As Australia celebrates National Volunteer Week this week, we invite you to thank Paul and all our Mighty River Run volunteers.
