The Harris Classification of Lips based on the natural presentation of tubercles (slide 2 without depicting the tubercles). Here is my new lip classification (submitted for publication) which classifies all the possible lip shapes based on their naturally occurring tubercles. There are a possible f...ive different upper lip types (Types 1-5) and four different lower lip types (Types A-D) to give a possible 20 different lip types (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, etc). For the upper lip: Type 1 has a prominent median tubercles; Type 2 central and lateral tubercles of similar size; Type 3 large lateral tubercles and a small central one; Type 4 pronounced lateral tubercles with no visible central tubercle and Type 5 no tubercles visualised (flat upper lip). For the lower lip Type A has tubercles spaced apart; Type B the tubercles are partially fused; Type C a large single tubercle (possible complete fusion) and Type D no tubercles visualised (flat lower lip). I feel this is a very useful way of understanding and describing the natural anatomy of the lips and I am hoping this will be of help to both practitioners and patients. I am also hoping that by introducing my new classification we will pay more attention to the natural presenting anatomy of each individual and learn to work with nature for natural and normal beautiful looking lip results. Marge Simpson lips 3. Sausage lips 4. Doughnut lips 5. Baboons a** . Unfortunately, I get a lot of patients present to me with mainly duck lips and Marge Simpson lips. Any one of these lips need dissolving before I will fill. You can’t inject around overfilled/ distorted/ lumpy lips. You’re just adding to the problem. If you have very overfilled lips, you may need a number of dissolving sessions. Most of the time, these lips are filled with more than one syringe over a period of time. If I ...am not mistaken the pustulation is sterile & not bacteria, much akin to neutrophil dust & inflammatory infiltrates one sees in Sweet’s- Neutrophilic dermatoses, AGEP, pustular psoriasis, Sneddon’s, etc.. I stand to be corrected as my general dermatology is very, very rusty . . Contrary to what’s in the literature, pain is not common. What you may see however is a really quick (less than 0.5 seconds) flash, essentially transient parlor when the filler treks from larger vessels to the smaller ones.
