19.01.2022 Spring Skin Top Tip: Wear lighter moisturiser. . As the temperatures start to warm up, our oil production starts to speed up. . What the heck does that mean? ... . Our sebum (oily pores) and sweat glands free flow and will cause a naturally more moist environment on our skin. Think of butter fresh from the fridge vs left out in room temperature on a warm day. A similar process in happening on our skin as it warms up. . Typically our South Australian weather is dry during Summer months so we need to stay hydrated with a hydrating moisturisers and upping our h2O intake but you don't want to be wearing a heavy oily moisturiser. This can clog your pores and lead to more breakouts, not to mention your skin will feel heavy and thick, your makeup will slide off and you will just generally be wondering what the heck is actually going on. . We Spring Clean our house, our wardrobes, our fridges and our gardens. So when was the last time you gave your skin products a Spring clean?... . Check the expiration dates. I bet some of you have products in your cupboards from years ago, don't you! . Ditch them! . I'm not saying this so you will spend more money buying new ones. I'm saying this for the fact that if there are active ingredients in them they will be less effective. If they have been opened they could have dried out. If you put your finger in them then there is probably bacteria growing in your containers. Gross! . So please give your products a good spring clean! . If you have multiple different products from heaps of different ranges, this could be a good time to filter out what you do and don't like. What does and doesn't work for your skin. Many skincare products work hand in hand with the other products in their range so if you find your products aren't very effective, try sticking to one brand. . 16.01.2022 Today's Top Tip: Wear sunscreen! . I'm the first to admit this is one of the hardest for me to integrate back into my regime in Spring. I get far too excited for the little glimpses of sun after Winter that all care goes out the window as I lap up those rays of sunshine. In my head I kid myself with "It's not hot so it won't be causing damage" thoughts but I know better than that. . Here in Australia, our UV rays are some of the most damaging thanks to that hole in th...e ozone layer. So even on cooler overcast days we can get sunburnt. . Let's not forget "windburn". The wind isn't burning our skin but the exposure to strong/consistent winds, strips our skin of its protective barrier, dehyrdating our skin and leaves our skin even more vulnerable to UV exposure. . The stress, worry and fear, knowing your bushfire plan and when to act, it’s a hectic, stressful and emotional time for many. If anyone needs help during this please reach out for help, there’s no shame in asking for help to make sure you and your family stays safe. ... To my fellow Cudlee Creek fire residents, I’m sure hearing of a fire relatively close to home is triggering a lot of feelings right now, particularly if you can hear the air bombers. Have comfort knowing you are safe, but if you aren’t coping with the overwhelming feelings please talk to someone, I’m always happy to listen if you don’t have anyone close by. I would never wish this experience upon anyone but through the struggles of a catastrophic event I am continuously blown away by such generosity, camaraderie and support we have for our neighbours.
