If you would still like to support the @alolafoundation womens cancer program HALIKU, you can donate via our website.

22.01.2022 Did you know that it's World Breastfeeding Week? As we come to the close of the global awareness week, we want to highlight the incredible work of Fundasaun Alola's Maternal and Child Health Program. Following the devastating April floods in Timor-Leste, the Alola team set up a new initiative called the 'Nurturing Care - Breastfeeding Rescue Safe Space'. This mobile unit was able to travel to the evacuation centres and provide lifesaving breastfeeding support, including re...lactation to re-establish breastfeeding for mixed formula feeding mothers. The Alola team are now looking at scaling the Nurturing Care concept so that it can be applied in a variety of settings, such as rural villages. If you would like to encourage the continuation of initiatives like this, please make a donation during the month of August to support the Maternal and Child Health Program. To learn more about the Nurturing Care - Breastfeeding Rescue Safe Space, please follow the link: https://www.alola.org.au/pivoting-for-the-good-health-of-m/

22.01.2022 With COVID-19 now firmly taking hold in Timor-Leste (estimated 50,000 cases in Dili alone) and the devastation of the April flooding, there are many avenues to direct your support at the moment. However, this tax time, we ask that you consider supporting the education of young women and girls. Why? Because education is the cornerstone for empowerment of women and girls in Timor-Leste. The challenges of the present day cannot be addressed without the education of the next gen...eration. We have to help ensure young women and girls are not left behind. You can support our Tax Appeal by making a donation to Fundasaun Alola's Scholarship Program. Scholarships provide funding for school fees, transport, school materials, uniforms, and living costs. The Scholarship Program targets disadvantaged girls and families especially in remote areas, single-parent families, orphans, gender-based violence survivors, children from large families or those from other situations of risk. Donate today at www.alola.org.au #StrongWomenStrongNation

21.01.2022 By donating to our Tax Appeal this tax time, you will be supporting women like Igilda. Earlier this year we shared Igilda's Bernadette dos Santos' story. Igilda's parents had passed away when she and her siblings were young. When Igilda started High School in 2010, she was the recipient of a Fundasaun Alola Scholarship, which continued until Igilda finished University in Dili. When she heard the scholarship would support her until she completed her tertiary education, her ...response was I feel very happy. Even though I am an orphan, Alola still paid attention to me. I am so grateful that I could finish my education at University and now I can work for my people. Thank you Alola. Igilda now works for the Timor-Leste Government in the Ministry of Public Works. You can you help us continue to make a difference in the lives of the many women and children in Timor, like Igilda, by supporting programs like the Scholarship Program. To support this program, considering donating to our Tax Appeal today at www.alola.org.au. A gentle reminder that this Tax Appeal closes on the 30th June. #StrongWomenStrongNation #AlolaAustralia #FundasaunAlola

19.01.2022 This weeks quote comes from a prominent voice in modern-day feminist literature, Roxanne Gay. Gay is an American writer, professor, editor, and social commentator, author of The New York Times best-selling essay collection Bad Feminist (2014). Much of Gay's written work deals with the analysis and deconstruction of feminist and racial issues through the lens of her personal experiences with race, gender identity, and sexuality. #StrongWomenStrongNation #RoxanneGay

17.01.2022 Message from the heart of Alola - Kirsty Sword Gusmo . . . . Timor-Leste needs Alola more than ever and Alola needs you! Whilst to date Timor-Leste has thankfully been spared the worst possible impacts of the Covid-19 emergency, with zero active cases as of today, women are doing it tougher than ever. Restrictions on movement, threats to income and food security due to closure of many small businesses, in addition to school closures, all mean that women are in greater ne...ed than ever of the sorts of programs and services that Alola provides. Alolas Maternal & Child Health (MCH) team have met an urgent need for grassroots health promotion and risk communication work by getting out into communities to spread the word. Your support at this time will mean that the MCH team can expand this important work whilst they and the 104 other Alola staff members can continue to look forward to a resumption of normal activities and priorities - the women of Timor-Lest are counting on it.

07.01.2022 A poignant read from Tim Costello. "This is a moment in our shared humanity when we dont know what happens next, but I suspect that we will need more than just an economic stimulus; we will need a stimulus in civility, in community and in charity that can only be generated from within, as we lament and then renew ourselves together."

03.01.2022 #StrongWomenStrongNation Jane Goodall is a primatologist and antropologist. Goodall credits her mother with encouraging her to pursue a career in primatology, a male-dominated field at the time. Goodall has stated that women were not accepted in the field when she started her research in the late 1950s. Today, the field of primatology is made up almost evenly of men and women, in part thanks to the trailblazing of Goodall and her encouragement of young women to join the field.
