18.01.2022 Speaking at a Senate committee hearing, ABC managing director David Anderson said the public broadcaster was trying to cover more women's sport, but that it was "reasonably expensive" to cover whole seasons of certain sports. Instead, the ABC has paid Foxtel so it can broadcast international matches played by the Matildas football team. "There is some cost attached," he said.... Questioned at the same October 21 hearing, a department spokesman was unable to say whether the Matildas games were already paid for by the $40 million grant from the taxpayer, with Foxtel then being paid again by the taxpayer-funded ABC to access and broadcast them.

04.01.2022 NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance wants this investigated by the Auditor-General, which sounds reasonable until you realise that the NSW Auditor-General was not equipped to investigate the Camellia deal because it involved the private sector and therefore did not have the power to compel some crucial documents. Turns out that the Auditor-General in NSW does not have the capacity either to follow the money or to undertake the kind of work the ICAC would undertake.

03.01.2022 Victims of the botched "robo-debt" welfare debt recovery scheme will share in $112 million after the federal government settled a class action on the morning of a scheduled trial. As part of the settlement the government has agreed to pay $112 million in compensation and legal costs to up to 400,000 people who were affected by the scheme and drop $398 million in debts it had claimed. But the most amazing bit is that despite this enormous payout, the feds have not accepted any liability.
