18.01.2022 Exciting arrival of the new pre loved wool press, a few minor repairs and we are in full swing again! It has been a struggle to get the fibre cleared out over the past few years creating delays for those that have contributed their fleeces. Mixture of factors resulting in these delays but main one being first in charge had a break to have kids, so inconvenient! Thank you to those that have stuck with me during this time.... Over the past week we have made great progress and feel a real sense of achievement. Shortly we will be opening up again for other alpaca owners to contribute. Bales are 99.9% full so would be the quickest turn around yet!

15.01.2022 BABY ALPACAS FOR SALE Did I get your attention? This week I was alerted to an advertisement on GumTree of ‘Baby Alpacas’ (Cria) for sale - af...ter making Enquiries to the lady selling the baby alpacas we discovered the cria were just 6 weeks old . Several people including myself tried to ‘educate’ this lady that cria need to remain with their Mum until weaning at 4-6 months of age as a minimum and how it’s very important that cria remain with a herd - we explained to her the risks of Berserk Male Syndrome (see attached info) and how this could result in terrible injuries to unsuspecting and uneducated buyers and the ultimate result of the animal being put to sleep due to these behaviours Her response? She will continue to sell ‘baby alpacas’........ Some quick facts: Risk of Berserk Male Syndrome in Alpaca and Llamas is increased significantly if males or females (more common in males) are bottle reared and over petted and handled, it’s a psychological condition that can be very dangerous to humans entering the paddock https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berserk_llama_syndrome Weaning should be done at a minimum of 4 months (if in good healthy condition) ideally 6 months Alpacas are strong herd animals - they should Be with at least one other alpaca or ideally 3 or more alpacas and only with the same sex Alpacas are livestock - not backyard pets - keeping livestock (Alpacas) means you also need a PIC (Property Identification Code) issued from your states Agriculture Department If you want to buy alpacas please only purchase through ethical breeders - if someone offers you a ‘baby alpaca’ under 4 - 6 months old as a pet - PLEASE don’t purchase it - these people are putting the alpacas welfare LAST! They are doing it for the money Ethical breeders will always offer you lots of education about keeping alpacas - and quite often will also be there long after the sale to assist with husbandry and educational requirements until you feel confident.. Alpacas and Llamas are unique animals - they are not like a lot of other livestock - therefore have different requirements and needs. 14.01.2022 We are stacking them high now :) My dad is 6 foot 3! This stack is of <18 micron white Huacaya 100mm, almost ready for pressing. All our lines are broken into 2 micron increments and are almost at pressing point, just trying to get the last of the fleeces in before we press up and have to start all over again.
