24.01.2022 Some days our field officer Alice finds an image on our motion-activated infra-red cameras that makes us all smile. How cute is this young emu chick, who ventur...ed very close to one of our cameras placed on Alpana Station. As part of the Bounceback and Beyond program, cameras are set in the Flinders, Gawler and Olary ranges to provide comparative information on animal activity on a range of properties and test the effectiveness of our control programs. 23.01.2022 found your sign see you again at Chritmas :-)

22.01.2022 Thanks everyone for your interest in the rain we have had; thanks for caring, it really helps. We measured 42mm of rain this morning from yesterday's rain and some more overnight. All the tanks have gone from nearly empty to choc-o-block full! This is the biggest single rain we have had since January 20 2017 when we had 51mm. The Alpana Creek ran twice yesterday! It is such a relief to finally get some rain. It won't grow any feed but the trees and shrubs have had a much need...ed drink and having full tanks has really taken some pressure off. We had a total of 99.25mm here for 2019. This was the driest year since 2002 when we had only 82.75mm, but 2019 was worse because it was the third dry year in a row with no rain during the growing seasons. Looking back through the Alpana rainfall records that go back to 1922, (I had to convert the older years' measurements from points to mm), these low rainfalls in 2019 and 2002 are the lowest on record, and you have to go back to 1944 for the third lowest which was a total of 124mm.

17.01.2022 RIP Tanna 2006 - 2019 For those who have met Tanna the wonderful but wandering Kelpie from Alpana we wanted to let you know that he passed away suddenly but peacefully just before Christmas 2019. He came from Beltana Station (hence his name) and has been with us since 2006 and was such a friendly dog who loved everyone but especially loved to 'shake hands' with children. He is very much missed. Do you have any photos of Tanna? We would love to see them!

06.01.2022 At Alpana we are happy to see the large moth we call a rain moth because it means we should get some rain in the near future. These photos show what we had on last Tuesday night! The deluge of rain moths was followed 4 days of good soaking-in rain, 19mm all up! We hope this will now bring up some green feed.

06.01.2022 At Alpana Station we’ve had dust storms one week, rain the next! www.alpanastation.com

05.01.2022 Have a 4WD and looking for adventure? The Mt Samuel Track was closed due to extensive flood damage received on February 1 and is now open BUT only to bikes or very experienced drivers of 4wd vehicles with high lift, and a minimum of two vehicles in the group is required. Some rock shifting may be necessary. Many thanks to Tom Viney and crew who re-opened for us the Mt Samuel Track and Mt Buggery Gorge by bravely driving through last week in their lifted Mitsubishi Pajero and... Ford Ranger. They loved it! We have rated the Mt Samuel Track as EXTREME at present and it is not for the faint hearted or Sunday drivers. If you are up for a challenge through some awesome country where most drivers fear to tread, then Mt Samuel Track is for you! Visit www.alpanastation.com for more info. (P.S. we will be taking the dozer through Buggery Gorge ASAP and the Mt Samuel Track will then be returned to its usual rating as Challenging. You’re welcome
