25.01.2022 First day back in uniform and back at the unit after a busy few months on deployment then rescuing in the fires. After a fun day catching up with my military family, I got to hang out with my favourite warrior....... Corporal Alli

25.01.2022 While we have a moment of calm before a very challenging day - I want to share some more rescues we undertook on Thursday at James Fitzgeralds Two Thumbs Koala Sanctuary. We made a dash out to the site to provide emergency supplemental water and food for the remaining populations ( before this weekends extreme fire conditions lockdown), and to entice injured animals to a safe zone - making it easier to assess them, and take those who are injured into care. This sweet EGK fema...le and her dependant joey were darted and brought into care. The mother had sustained awfully painful burns to her paws ( blistered and infected), as we as her feet. Her Joey was healthy- yet was darted to bring her into care to accompany her mum. Both EGKs were darted within one minute of each other and recumbent within moments of each other. Both are now in care at a Possumwood and are undergoing veterinary treatment. Theres still a long road ahead in rescues, and when conditions here at at the crash site have eased we will be back to recover more of the injured. I also wish to thank our great friends at AnimalsAustralia and the ARC for their generous support. 24.01.2022 Another big afternoon/ evening of kangaroo rescues at the Two Thumbs Sanctuary today ...... its nearly midnight and wrapping for the day. Four more burns victims darted and now in care with Rosemary at Possumwood. The four Kangaroos include a motherless Joey, two female EGK with in porch joeys and a big 70kg male named Kenny ....... (he was one of Rosemarys releases).... All will be undergoing veterinary treatment in the morning for their injuries. 23.01.2022 A busy day assisting our friends at LAOKO and Vets For Compassion by darting seven Eastern Grey Kangaroos that sustained burns during the fires and required follow up treatment and dressing changes. All close range target acquisitions were done with the Pneu-Dart X2 pistol - which is specifically designed for close quarter targets and reduces muscle impact damage. Two of the lucky seven are ready for release and one is on their way to be integrated with a mob with Steve and R...osemary at Possumwood Alphadog AnimalArmy Inc is an ATO endorsed non-profit animal rescue organisation- donations can be made on our website. http://alphadog.org.au/donate https://www.paypal.me/AlphadogAnimalArmy

22.01.2022 Like every other ANZAC Day, Im having a beer with my mates Remembering all animals that lost their lives in conflict and peace keeping. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 We stayed, we defended and dodged a bullet today. We were surrounded by fire from the North, west and South and still have the night to get through. Thank you all for the support and offers of assistance- we at Alphadog are all ok. Right now however, Im going to indulge in the first phase of a six phase Coronavirus ingestion

21.01.2022 DUDE ....... did you not read the memo ( pictured: Mr Mistoffelees .... rescued cat)

20.01.2022 Mr Mistoffelees is pretty excited the main wall in the tranquilliser firearms classroom is finally in after a big push till 4am this morning. Due to current Covid19 developments we will be delaying Alphadog tranquilliser firearms safety training endorsement courses at this time and will advise of changes to course dates.

20.01.2022 A minute of vision from yesterdays search for survivors Fire tore through here only 24 hours prior and was reigniting with the easterly wind moving through as I searched the gully parallel to Countegany Rd. 20.01.2022 This is my neighbor Shannon at WhiskerWoods Sanctuary. Over the past 14 years we’ve done many rescues together including the recent bushfires. I’m so happy she’s finally getting the recognition for all her hard work and sacrifices https://www.facebook.com/194617417251016/posts/3380085105370882/?vh=e&extid=C5errJbed3yRlOin

19.01.2022 Its astonishing to think this image John Moore captured of me out at the Peak View foregrounds was less than six months ago. This article featured on CNN states new research data released WWF has determined the true extent of animal losses is three times the original 1 billion animal lives. https://edition.cnn.com//australia-fires-wildli/index.html

19.01.2022 Amongst the continued rescues we are undertaking including another EGK female darted tonight and brought into care with burn injuries sustained from the December fires in NARG territory- Id like to share some awesome imagery from my friend Louisa Schlepper @louisaschlepper Louisa and my great friends from the German Animal Disaster Response Germany accompanied us on the initial days of rescue at the Hammers Hill Two Thumbs Sanctuary.... 18.01.2022 Just dropped off a two way and a spare emergency smoke flare for my neighbour Shannon at WhiskerWoods. I feel it should be a mandatory piece of kit for those defending rural properties to enable people to signal aerial assets in their vicinity for when you really get in the shit

18.01.2022 One of the first Kangaroos we darted and brought into care was Shannon ( who was named after Shannon at WhiskerWoods who came to help and rescue this girl on her birthday). As with many of these burns victims, they are often re immobilised to have further surgery / treatment or dressings changed. The images and video here illustrate capture through to treatment. Shannon is currently in care with Steve and Rosemary at Possumwood.... As part of my charity's specialist work, we will be publishing a paper on the survivorship of Eastern Grey Kangaroos who have undergone chemical immobilisation ( often a number of times) and have survived a traumatic event - that go on to live out their full lives. As world leaders in tranquiliser firearms instruction and remote capture, we will be producing this scientific paper to stand as a benchmark to fact and dispel the myths of manufactured opinion. 15.01.2022 Hammers Hill - Peak View Yesterday, under fire escort, we were allowed in to James Fitzgeralds Two Thumbs Sanctuary. As a 20 year military veteran Ive seen some challenging things in my career - but what hits the hardest is the suffering and unimaginable terror faced by our animal friends. The fire was severe and indiscriminate, and as we were there was still active. As can be seen in the video clip ( can be viewed in comments), a spotter helicopter was flying low overhead ...as I went to retrieve an injured female EGK I had just darted. Amongst the destruction we saved some lives - but still have much more work to do and are committed to helping all those in need. A big thank you to the German disaster response team and Rosemary from Possumwood. I also wish to thank my awesome friends at AnimalsAustralia and the ARC, who have assisted greatly in making sure we have what we need to conduct our specialist rescue work. All EGK that came into care have received veterinary treatment and are now in care at Possumwood. Ill keep you updated with further progress in our rescues at Peak View. We at Alphadog are currently in lockdown and are at emergency warning due to the looming Orroral fire that is encroaching from the west. 14.01.2022 Molly is MISSING!! Reward offered for her safe return One of our neighbours is missing their dog Molly so Alphadog is posting this in the hope they can find their dearly loved and missed companion Molly.... Molly is a 4 year old small sized German Shepard and is microchipped. Molly was last seen two weeks ago at her Williamsdale property on the Monaro Highway ( 6km south of the Canberra border). If you have seen her or have any information as to her whereabouts please call Sarah on 0432 289 500 or message us at Alphadog and we will pass on the information.

14.01.2022 As a tranquilliser firearms instructor- I teach all my operators that remote administration should usually be the last option of intervention........ it comes with knowledge and experience to assess if there is a low impact and stress reduced method of capture it should always be considered. In this Instance a calm slow approach and a hand full of almonds and a small sneaky injection of Diazepam worked a treat. This sweet girl came into care with the others to receive treatment for her burns Alphadog AnimalArmy Inc is an ATO endorsed non-profit animal rescue organisation- donations can be made on our website. http://alphadog.org.au/donate

14.01.2022 A big thank you to Justin Mayfield and Cindy Daley who despite knowing the fire danger threat level out here, sourced the last remaining 1000ltr IBC tank in NSW, did a midnight water run to Alphadog ( with two supreme pizzas ), and also did a hay delivery this morning. Legends!!

13.01.2022 While we are still out actively rescuing and assisting others associated with bushfire animal recovery, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our generous supporters and donors. Its with much gratitude I sincerely thank the Animal Rescue Collective (ARC), Alli Cairns, Derek Knox, Animals Australia, The John Butler Trio (Fire Aid WA), Lou Bonomi, Richard Donovan, and all of Alphadogs generous donors and supporters. When we put out the call for your assistance, weth...er it be for equipment or support to conduct our specialist work, you all stepped up and answered the call. I am just one man who has a specialist and unique set of skills in remote animal capture, often largely self funding my charitable work, but without your generous support we would not have saved the sheer volume of wildlife that we have achieved ....... and I, and the animals thank you. Its been a sleepless, stressfully enduring, depressing and anxious few months in rescue, and our work still continues in our endeavour to save all our wildlife friends affected by the fires. We are rescuing kangaroos affected by the December fires two months later, so its an indication this will be our mission for the next few months to continue our fire ground patrols. Our work continues, and I can assure you, no one will be left behind. Thank you all. Marcus

12.01.2022 Social distancing done right

11.01.2022 On Saturday, I was out at Peak View to continue follow up searches for wildlife injured by the fires. As i searched the eastern boundry fenceline that over looks the crash site of the downed Coulsen Hercules, i sat for a while in the afternoon sunset and wept I wept for all those we have saved, i wept for all those we couldnt save, i wept for the all those we still have not found, and wept for the unimaginable loss of life over the past few months.... As i dried my eyes, i looked over to my left, and saw this most extrodinary shape that was burnt out of a eucalyptus tree .......in the shape of a fire devastated Australia. Our work continues, and the seaching continues till we have found all our friends as no one will be left behind

10.01.2022 A big thanks to a fellow RAAFie who helped a brother in need. Thanks Paul Muscat for your time, knowledge and expertise on the wood fire install in the Alphadog tranq classroom

08.01.2022 This beautiful girl is Indiana - I darted her and her dependant joey at the Two Thumbs Koala Sanctuary days after the fire tore through the region. This amazing girl is the personification of fierce. In the face of what can only be imagined as a cataclysmic hellish inferno- she did everything it took to defend and save her dependant joey.... Indiana sustained burns to her ears, paws and feet as well as burnt fur. Her selfless sacrifice in defence of her Joey, whilst painful and potentially fatal, saved the life of her little one who is unscathed. Humans can learn so much from these amazing beings, as to what fortitude, sacrifice and a fierce resolve in the face of apocalyptic adversity is. Indiana is a Hero the last image was photographed the day I darted both Indiana and her Joey at the Two Thumbs Koala Sanctuary ( mother in foreground and Joey behind). 06.01.2022 While the large well resourced animal Orgs with paid staff have time to market and post theatrics and in some instances contrived animal rescues in order to solicit your donations ....... a couple of us small charities that dont have the recourses and time to constantly do FB posts, are actually doing the real work! Will be posting footage and imagery from the past few days in the bushfire rescues later today To help us continue to help others please consider donating t...o Alphadog Animalarmy Alphadog AnimalArmy Inc is an ATO endorsed non-profit animal rescue organisation- donations can be made on our website. http://alphadog.org.au/donate

05.01.2022 This is imagery from yesterdays rescue at the Numerella/ Peak View fire grounds. This injured girl was found by the German animal rescue team earlier in the day and advised she needed to be remotely captured for treatment for burns. Tranquilliser rifle cam footage (can be viewed in comments) shows a target acquisition from 36 meters, with gusty easterly winds and falling debris.... After a text book administration, she was recumbent within 6 minutes and brought into care. She has undergone veterinary treatment for her burns and in now in care with Rosemary and Steve at Possumwood Sanctuary. We have named the kanga Shannon after Shannon from WhiskerWoods, who sacrificed her birthday to come out to the active fire area to assist us in rescues. 04.01.2022 Rescue amongst the ruins - rifle cam footage of Friday nights chemical immobilisation of Wild2free's Honey On Friday we had a successful day of capturing four of Wild2free's Kangaroos that had concerning burn injuries. The forth for the day I darted as i was just about to leave a little after 8pm.... The dearly loved and illusive Honey who had disappeared after the fires had miraculously appeared in the ruins of Rae Harveys house, and allowing me to immobilise her and bring her into care for the urgent treatment she required. It was a challenging target acquisition, as I had to run 400 meters to grab and ready my gear, and return to the site to slowly do a creep into a position where I was able to get an oblique muscle mass presentation on Honey for darting. It was raining steadily and target distance was originally 40 meters thus the selection of a 2cc dart. I was able to advance into a position I was able to dart her from a standing position at 18 meters. Honey is now in care and receiving the Veterinary attention she requires. 02.01.2022 Happy international dog day from the Alphadog pack and some North Pole friends.

01.01.2022 This is the chemical immobilisation of our latest fire victim named Pumpkin Rockets. Pumpkin Rockets had sustained burn injuries when she was fortunate enough to escape the December fires in NARG territory in the Braidwood region. (Tranquiliser rifle-cam footage is in the comments). I was called out to tranquillise this poor girl as she was struggling with her injuries two months after the fires.... This sweet girl had been treated for her burns, and received surgery for a tendon issue, and is now recovering comfortably with a positive prognosis. (pumpkin Rockets has the orange coloured leg dressings). Pumpkin Rockets will also be part of my research paper on survivorship of Eastern Grey Kangaroos having been immobilised, rehabilitated and released after enduring a traumatic event. This is why we will never give up searching and rescuing, these animals are the embodiment and fortitude and resilience, enduring great suffering and persecution and an unequalled resolve to survive. Please help us to continue our work.
