25.01.2022 Keep your lockdown exciting and learn a few things from our physiotherapist Laurence, who shares his knowledge and wisdom via our website in the form of #whatiswednesday articles. The latest - what is the difference between a ligament and tendon? #physiolifeaustralia #choosephysio

25.01.2022 INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAMS Our physiotherapist Nick has guided us through some of the best evidence-based & sports-specific programs, to reduce your risk of injury & improve performance. Check them out here: https://physiolife.physio//injury-prevention-programs-for-

24.01.2022 How often should you load a tendon in rehab? These figures from Magnussen et al (2010) suggest that heavy loading should take place every second or third day to ensure maximum recovery. This also tells us why tendinopathy is more likely to occur in those people who exercise without enough recovery! ... Moral of the story: take your recovery seriously and think about an extra day between particular types of activities!

23.01.2022 One positive from the lockdown has been the ability to manipulate set and rep regimes to get the best out of a workout. I hear what you are saying (NERD!!!) but let me explain! A problem with working out at home is self motivation and boredom with workouts. One way of remedying this is to mix up set and rep schemes to keep some interest. Youll notice on previous posts that the workout schemes have been slightly different. Lately, I have been working using the Tabata regi...men. Created by Izumi Tabata, this is a form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) aimed at improving cardiovascular conditioning. It is essentially 20 seconds on (very intense) with 10 seconds rest, 8 times (4 total minutes). Hint: its hard Here is an example: Burpees x 2 rounds (1min) Pushups x 2 rounds (1min) Renegade rows x 2 rounds (1min) Jumping lunges x 2 rounds (1min) But the kicker: -its over quick -you can do it with any exercise -you can do multiple sets of 4 minutes -you can apply the work/rest ratio to longer rounds eg 1 min on, 30 sec off Moral of the story: have a go at mixing up your workouts. You might even enjoy it! #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington #choosephysio #alphington

22.01.2022 Another home Pilates-based session to try to keep the spine moving and trunk muscles working! Prone Leg kicks 4 point leg kicks 4 point alternates... Cat and camel Plank foot swaps Push-up alternate arms Try for 30 seconds each. Then 3-6 sets! #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington #alphington #choosephysio #isolationworkout

22.01.2022 For runners, calf pain can be a serious issue. But is this due to compartment pressure or muscle overload? These two are different and need to be treated as such!

22.01.2022 With the announcement of reinstated stage 3 lockdowns across metropolitan Melbourne, we would like to reassure all of our patients that we are business as usual at @physiolifealphington @physiolifebulleen @physiolifeheidelberg @physiolifewarrandyte ... Glute bridge x 20 Hundreds x 20 Try to complete the circuit 3-5 times with a minutes rest between rounds! 18.01.2022 Isolation workout number 1-Legs 5 x 5 minute rounds 1 minute rest between sets -Kettlebell squats... -Single leg Romanian deadlifts -Kettlebell lunges -kettlebell swings -Dumbbell thrusters We are still open here @physiolifealphington but we understand a lot of people are doing it tough at home. But exercise is still important, as much for mental health as your physical well being. Here is a bit of a balcony leg workout to kickoff your self isolation. Very important to think of technique with this workout, and try to keep a relatively neutral spine throughout the movements. Keep the weights low initially then build up. If youre struggling to walk the next day, blame our Physio@yourmatechief for this tough workout! #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington #choosephysio

18.01.2022 It turns out that your body is pretty tough! #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington #alphington #choosephysio

18.01.2022 Another self-isolation workout! This time its upper body. Bicep curl x 20... Tricep push-up x 10-20 (dependent on previous level of strength) Hammer curls x 20 Tricep extension x 20 Lateral raises x 20 3-5 sets as fast as possible. Tips: -start with a low weight. You could even use household items for this one, such as cans of soup or drink bottles. Increase the weight if you can easily complete the 5 rounds -ease into the pushups. Start at 10 then build. Try to tuck the elbows into the side of the body -Feel the burn! Try not to take tests between sets or exercises. This way you will test your cardiovascular fitness as well your muscular endurance #isolation #isolationworkout #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington #alphington

16.01.2022 With a larger proportion of people working from home, we are seeing A LOT of back and neck pain stemming from POOR WORKSTATION SETUPS. Here are the TOP 5 things to get right to ensure your workstation is setup correctly: 1. Chair height. It all starts with the chair! Make sure your knees and hips are roughly around 90 degrees... 2. Desk height: your elbows should be at or just above 90 degrees with your forearms readying comfortably on the desk 3. Monitor Height. Eyes should be at the same level as the top of the monitor 4. Everything you regularly use on your desk should be within arms length without leaning 5. Most importantly: CHANGE POSITIONS EVERY 20 MINUTES. This might mean just standing for 30 seconds then returning to your desk. Finally, we are still open and happy to see you for your aches and pains! #staysafe #physiolife #physiolifeaustralia #physiolifealphington

14.01.2022 Picked up a new lockdown exercise or hobby? Changes in activity, new activities or an increase (or decrease) in load may all contribute to a presenting conditio...n or injury. Throwing it back to a previous #whatiswednesday, Laurence explores Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome (ITBS). Find out more about this condition, common in new runners or runners experiencing a spike in load
