25.01.2022 With so many major developments going on, Council approval processes - more able to cope with residential renovations and dual occupancy applications - are not making decisions in a timely manner on major redevelopment applications that actually shape our communities. Unfortunately, if the Council does not make a decision on a Developer’s Application within 6 weeks, Developers have the right to ‘take it to VCAT’. ... https://apmag.org.au/increasing-trend-to-leave-it-to-vcat-/

21.01.2022 Yarra Bend has no street parking. Yarra Council has taken action on the issue and defined parking rules around the park, where the overflow is ending up. Residents in the existing Yarra Bend townhouses have one garage, and apartment dwellers have maybe one space in a shared garage, but there would be barely half a dozen on-street spaces in the whole development.... https://apmag.org.au/parking-around-the-park-yarra-asks-ho/

21.01.2022 Getting the riverfront rehabilitated and protected as public land has been a issue for over 10 years, as subsidence, erosion and tree fall have been getting worse. Now, recent heavy rains have flooded the area, and the unfinished rehabilitation works have left the footpath unprepared to stand up to spring rains. Securing a solid plan on the Riverfront has been a central plank of APMAG's agenda since it began, ... https://apmag.org.au/rains-wash-away-limited-riverside-wor/

15.01.2022 Details about the public spaces in the development particularly near the Boiler House, have not been released yet. Yarra City is refining its guidelines now for the developers to meet. APMAG is contributing to those guidelines, with specific and actionable goals to get real results. In the most recent meeting, we focused on the pars to the southern end of the development, aiming for them to be valuable and useful to the whole community - new and old. 15.01.2022 The proposal to demolish, and re-purpose the Amcor Boiler House has been submitted and received by Yarra Council. This is following the Minister for Planning considering a recommendation by the Heritage Council for the registration of the boiler house on the Victorian Heritage Register and determining not to include the building on the Register. The proposal will construct 2 buildings on the site, ranging from 3-7 storeys high in the Mixed Use Zone covered in the Development Plan Overlay (DPO). 13.01.2022 As ever, parking and trucks remains a concern. APMAG is raising parking, both on a street by street level, and pushing Council to consider the challenge wholistically. If your letterbox is surveyed, please respond as local response is a big factor in decision making. The team also told Glenville that new residents, who can’t yet be surveyed, often don’t realise there is no on-street parking in the new development.
