25.01.2022 We need your help! Each spring, Mountain Pygmy-possums wake up from hibernation, hungry for nutritious Bogong Moths to eat. Bogong Moths usually fly to meet ...Mountain Pygmy-possums in the billions, but this hasn’t happened in the past three years. Our scientists want to know where the moths are. If you see a Bogong Moth at your home this spring, take a photo and upload it to Zoos Victoria's Moth Tracker: https://bit.ly/3caC9s4 Thanks for your help, Federation University Australia!

24.01.2022 Shhhhhh don’t tell our feline friends, but it’s INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY!! Get outside and enjoy your canine companion, make the most of this glorious weather. Have a PAWSOME daysee what I did there!

24.01.2022 Everyone loves a puppy cuddle!

21.01.2022 We need some really good vibes for this little puppen!! He's a tiny 385g and needed surgery on his intestines today. Because he's so microscopic, I couldn't place a catheter into a vein, so had to opt for one into his bone of his leg - an intraosseus catheter. I managed to get a miniature tube into his throat to provide anaesthetic agents to keep him asleep during the procedure. ... Despite his small stature, he was an absolute rockstar during the surgery and woke up well, but needs all the good thoughts we can muster to get through the next few days of recovery. #supervetmum #amazingvetnurses #rockstarpuppy

21.01.2022 Just a reminder that not all dogs love to be patted by strangers! I have a mixed bag in my household with several of mine overwhelming literally anyone for love, whilst some of them are very reticent for a pat from a non family member. :) https://www.canineprinciples.com/blog/touch-dogs-permission

21.01.2022 HAHAHAHAAA SIGH I'd forgotten how destructive puppies can be.......mine is currently 8 months and 'Champion Toy Killer'.

18.01.2022 Just a word of warning to our clients, we're seeing a high number of gastro and coughing patients recently. If your dog is unwell, please keep them home and don't allow interaction with other dogs, as these guys are often contagious.

18.01.2022 Happy Hump day! Pop goes the weasel!

17.01.2022 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY! Today is the day we celebrate those brave souls that are the frontline of the Veterinary world. They don't just answer phones and book appointments........they don't just do the super icky stuff! They're the ones that greet your pet when they arrive at the clinic, watch them like a hawk during anaesthesia and then cuddle them when they wake up. These guys are the true Superheroes of the Veterinary clinics and hospitals. Without them, we Vets wouldn't be able to function.......or keep a clinic in order!

17.01.2022 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Sir Lloyd Catwhiskers III, Esquire wishes everyone a spooky (but safe) night! But please make sure those chocolates are kept out of reach of our furry friends.

17.01.2022 I thought I’d share my morning visitor.......the tiny little puppy that underwent surgery for bowel obstruction came back for his vaccination. He’s perfectly healthy and just too flippin’ cute!!

16.01.2022 Achieved a new highlight of my Veterinary career today. For the first time in my Vet life (and in normal life), I was peed on by a dog. #realvetnow #vetlife #allthebodilysecretions Thankfully I get to play with these little guys to make up for it.

14.01.2022 Fledgling Magpie Season High res image - http://www.magpieaholic.com/found-a-baby-magpie/ If you see me on the ground, hold tight, my parents are likely ...to be somewhere ’round! They may be out collecting my food, or chasing off predators that are likely to intrude! Please give them time, and wait to see, they are extremely likely to return to me. As I wobble and clumsily flutter down to the ground. I’m just learning my bearings of how to get ’round! An exciting new world for me to see. Out of the nest and free as can be! Although I may not yet be able to fly, please don’t worry as I’m bound to get by. I can usually flutter and jump to higher ground. I can also communicate with my parents by emitting a sound. If you see me in immediate danger, please help and don’t be a stranger! If I’m injured, I need your assistance. Call your local animal rescue shelter to help secure my existence! Please don’t be tempted to take us home, and try to raise us on your own. We require experienced care, and a nutritious diet like our parents would prepare. We know you mean well, and truly thank you for caring. But when it comes to raising us, even our parents find it overbearing! If I’m too young and unable to be returned to my nest, (refer to flowchart) here’s something you can try to ensure I progress. Constructing a makeshift nest is easy as can be. Octopus straps, a hanging basket, leaf litter, then securely hang it up in a tree! Make sure to wait until my parents return. If you observe them tending to me, then there is no reason for further concern! If you’re ever in doubt, do not fuss. Ring your local wildlife shelter, and they’ll be able to help us! I apologise for forgetting to include a contact number in the flowchart for Tasmania! TASMANIA - Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (03) 6268 1184

13.01.2022 The emotional rollercoaster of a Veterinarians life still amazes me. My one day off a week started with a clients message with the announcement of a long awaited, much anticipated home birth of a litter of puppies. Within the hour, I received a call about a little old man that needed to be assisted from this world. ... Half an hour after he had passed, I was rushing a heavily pregnant mumma into emergency caesarian surgery. Thankfully, an hour later we had 7 wriggly babies, a mum wanting to feed them and a very happy owner. PS And yes, that small human assisted in rubbing puppies and waking them up.

13.01.2022 Stage 1 of the renovations has almost finished and I am in LOVE with it all. Many thanks to Danny and his team for being so quick and unobtrusive.

13.01.2022 Wishing all of our clients and their fur families a Happy New Year.

11.01.2022 A ‘before and after’ of entropian surgery I recently performed. #nowicansee #nomoresoreeyes I love these sorts of corrective surgeries. They make such a difference to the pets overall comfort and life.

11.01.2022 IT'S A BOY Our amazing vet nurse Cassie and her partner welcomed their first child into the world at 9.49am yesterday. Archibald arrived over a week late weighing in at 3860g (8lb 4oz). Mum and bub are both doing well.

10.01.2022 Puppies, puppies, puppies.so many little poopers! They’re adorable time wasters, in the best possible way. The number of puppies we’re seeing for their first vaccinations is rising exponentially, but as a general consensus, Veterinarians, like myself, are becoming concerned. We’re not worried that there are so many new babies arriving daily, we’re thrilled that families are welcoming new fur babies into their midst, we love that people have so much available time to spend ...with their new family members, BUTand this is the kicker.Veterinarians as a whole, are becoming increasingly concerned that all of these new babies are going to end up with serious behavioural issues when their families return to a ‘normal’ lifestyle post COVID. These adorable little bundles of floof are being loved on, pampered, cuddled and adored almost 24 hours a day. Their families spend all of their available time playing with them. However, bear in mind that the majority of us will inevitably return to work, leaving these little puppies at home, unattended, with no one to continually entertain them. As hard as it is, it may be in their best interests to teach them to entertain themselves.a form of ’self soothe’ for instance. May I suggest that you give your new baby some ‘time out’ from everyone. Teach them to engage in their surrounds without the input of their humans, provide sources of mental stimulation that don’t include their people. Trust me, as hard as it is now to leave them be and NOT play with them..it will be so much harder on them in the long run if you don’t.

10.01.2022 So sweet, but so sad.

07.01.2022 Serious surgery on a critically ill patient this morning! Thankfully they pulled through and are recovering nicely.

07.01.2022 Love delivering good news! Can't wait to see these puppies in 4 weeks time. EDIT: One day I'll figure out how to change the date stamp on the damn ultrasound.......but it won't be this year. ;) :D

06.01.2022 I love my job! I got to meet the cutest little bubba on my farm visit this afternoon!

05.01.2022 Putting the small person to work again, this time she’s cuddling puppies while they wake up from anaesthetic. (Home schooling can wait for a bit.) #realhomeschooling #vetlife #vetkids #everyonelovespuppies

04.01.2022 The luckiest little dog! Twas the day before Christmas..and we were absolutely BANANAS busy! In rushed concerned parents with their little pupper, Snoopy. Poor little Snoop had been frolicking in the park and was attacked by a large dog. She was in shock, bleeding heavily and had a several puncture wounds to her abdomen. ... The team launched into actionIV fluids, pain relief, and antibiotics to stabilise her while Dr Bek assessed her injuries and planned the best course of action. Whilst poor Snoopy had only a couple of puncture wounds, dog bites are often misleading. Beneath the couple of small holes, there was horrific damageshe had multiple lacerations to her diaphragm, a small tear near her groin into which most of her intestines had herniated into and a large tear to her abdominal wall just behind her ribs through which her kidney had been avulsed and torn away from it’s blood supply. Little Snoopy needed some immediate and very serious emergency surgery! That afternoon, Dr Bek performed a nephrectomy (removal of the damaged kidney), patched the diaphragmatic damage using a flap of muscle from the abdominal wall, sutured several ribs together, repaired a tear in the spleen, and closed both tears in Snoopy’s abdominal wall. It was a long, arduous process, but Snoopy handled it like a pro! She woke with very little pain and by the next day, she was almost back to her usual self. Two weeks later, all the sutures were out and Snoopy hasn’t looked back. Animals will never cease to amaze me with their recuperative powers.

04.01.2022 PSA We'd just like to say we appreciate the diligence of our local community in retrieving wildlife and dropping them into us for attention. HOWEVER, even healthy birds can harbour disease and there are cases of psittacosis in the area, so we urge people to take extra care when picking up and delivering our avian friends to us. Use gloves, towels and an appropriate container (eg cardboard box) to bring them into the clinic. ... The last thing anyone needs in the current COVID climate, is to contract psittacosis while trying to be a good samaritan. https://www2.health.vic.gov.au//psittacosis-ornithosis-par

04.01.2022 FYI for our farmers in the area.

01.01.2022 In big news today.........Dr Rachael officially starts her rounds tomorrow! I hope she finds as much joy and warmth in this little community as I do.

01.01.2022 EDIT - Charlie has been adopted. Hi, my name is 'Charlie'. I'm an adorable little guy looking for my furever home. If you think you'd like to adopt me, call the clinic on 03 5756 2444. We're looking for someone special for this little dude. He was a feral kitten, but is now the sweetest, most affectionate cuddler ever. He is vaccinated, microchipped and desexed. For more information, give us a call at the clinic.

01.01.2022 I think we’ve trained the small human pretty well. She’s now creating cage signs for her own ‘patients’.
