24.01.2022 Thank you to the Canberra Bushwalking Club for a memorable 9 days on the river

24.01.2022 Our paddling season has finished early this year due to drought conditions and very low environmental flows being released. Luckily we've been able to spend some time exploring our National Parks by foot. Below are a couple of photos of a recent trip exploring the Byadbo Wilderness section of Kosciuszko National Park. This week we are off on a 40km hike, exploring the and walking the Murray River from its source. ... Photos by Franz Peters.

22.01.2022 Our trip from a client’s perspective. Thanks to the Lanzarone family from France.

19.01.2022 Sarah Davis has started her journey down the Murray River from source to sea. For the first 150 km of hiking and whitewater paddling she will be supported by gu...ides Richard Swain and Chris Cahill of Alpine River Adventures. You can follow Sarah's progress by signing up to her email newsletter at https://www.paddlethenile.com/ ....and yes, she has paddled the Nile! See more

18.01.2022 Part2. Quite often we would approach a rapid and realise how much of an elevation drop there was, then to realise it's another large drop or waterfall. Most we ...didn't even know existed. The most well known falls in this section is Currowong Falls (pic with boats in foreground). Because of its ruggedness this particular section of river hasn't suffered quite as much degradation from feral animals compared to the rest of the river. So we were seeing what people have been seeing for thousands of years. We will be back....Richard Swain #alpineriveradventures #duckies #whitewater #whitewaterkayaking #boystrip #wilderness #snowyriver See more

16.01.2022 Part1. A few weeks back Richard Swain and I had some time off between trips so we decided to paddle a section of the snowy we havnt run before which had been on... our minds for some time now. We put in at ironmunjie and over 3 days paddled through bungarby and matong gorges and finished downstream of delegate. Most people paddle this section during high flows but we found the level we ran it at was ideal for our first decent when running duckies. This made it a hell of alot more enjoyable without the stress that high water brings. We were able to take in this magnificent part of the river. Many parts were full of sieves and holes that showed no end, one slip and you might have not been found. The size of some of the boulders has to be seen to be believed. Not to mention the stone bridge where the river disappears through rock for 60m. We packed light so the mandatory portages were a breeze. #snowyriver #sportsraft #alpineriveradventures #boystrip #whitewater #duckie #whitewaterkayaking See more

14.01.2022 Forever in our hearts 7/4/20 we lost one of our crew, our daughter Jasmine. A great little paddler and an amazing photographer. During October 2015 Jas and her mate Hayley both aged 12yrs came with me for five days down the Snowy through the Byadbo. These photos are a proud memory of an unforgettable trip. Love always

14.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone from the team at Alpine River Adventures.

09.01.2022 Today I had the pleasure of meeting the awesome people at 2ser in Sydney. After the last couple of months it felt good to think of and talk about the Byadbo again.

08.01.2022 Lazy Sundays Thanks Mike Bremers for the photo

04.01.2022 A new 2020 book titled Kosciuszko: A Great National Park*1 has been published as an essential resource for researching the real facts. It separates the fiction and provides evidence-based information needed for responsible national interest policy decisions by governments.

04.01.2022 Rod Taylor (1930-2015) was a famous Hollywood actor staring in many movies including "The Time Machine" (1960) and Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" (1963). He was... born on this day 90 years ago. Taylor's first film role "Inland with Sturt" (1951) was an ABC documentary about a re-enactment of Capt. Charles Sturt's 1830 boat journey down the Murrumbidgee/Murray Rivers. Two actors, Grant Taylor and Rod Taylor (no relation to each other) played the roles of Sturt and his deputy George MacLeay respectively. A crew from the army rowed the whaleboat. The two Taylor's considered themselves part of the crew and took their turn at the oars during the 5 week, 1500 km journey from Maude. The re-enactment left Maude on 7 January 1951 and arrived in Goolwa on 11 February. Rod Taylor's association with Sturt does not end there. Taylor is Sturt's great great grand nephew and his middle name is "Sturt"! His family connection wasn't the reason for his selection. The role was originally given to Charles "Bud" Tingwell but he turned it down when he was offered another film role. To top this off Taylor died on 7 January 2015, 64 years to the day of the launch of the Sturt re-enactment and 185 years to the day of the start of Sturt's boat journey down the river. You can read more about Sturt, the re-enactment journey and other famous Australians in "Murray-Darling Journeys".
