09.01.2022 This team was created due to the complexity of the Alpine Environment when it comes to fires and emergencies. Specialsed vehicles, equipment, skills required by fire fighters, population surge, building regulations, living conditions and tourism are just some of the themes. The Alpine Service Delivery Team will work with Resort management boards, lift companies, other emergency services organizations, tourism and sporting organizations, businesses and the community to maintai...n a safer and enjoyable place to live, work and play. The team came together in early April 2020 when Commander Mark Owens was appointed to the role as Commander Alpine. April Padbury followed soon after as the Administrative Support Officer Alpine to support Mark in this new role. Many of you will already know Mark, as he had been a resident Commander at Falls Creek during the snow season a few years ago. April Padbury has come from within CFA, as part of the North East Region Community Safety Team. April has been an Incident Management Team member during major incidents in the North East working as a Community Liaison Officer in the Public Information Unit. With the COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to introduce ourselves in person but as the restrictions are revised and relaxed we will be out and about, so please, when you see us about come and say hello. Our office is located at District 24 Headquarters, in Wodonga, We have a dedicated email address [email protected] which means you will always have direct access to the team. We also have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/alpineservicedeliveryteam and a closed facebook group for our members of alpine fire brigades. This closed facebook group is for members to share knowledge, information and challenges that CFA volunteers encounter while living and working at alpine resorts. We are here to serve you 365 days of the year so send us an email, watch our facebook posts. See more

02.01.2022 Alpine Resort Property Owners Please Take Note Recently, the CFA has responded to several incidents at Alpine properties involving burst water pipes because of freezing and buildings being unattended. In regular winter operations, properties on the mountains would all be occupied. However, this year is different with lack of occupancy and minimal protective maintenance being carried out throughout the winter. Due to the current circumstances this winter and COVID-19 restricti...ons place on Victorians many of the properties owners or managers may not be on the mountains to carry out this required maintenance and protective measures. We suggest that owners, managers and committees ensure that they have measures in place to reduce the likelihood of issues occurring. Contact your respective Resort Management staff as they may be able to provide more local advice or on mountain contacts to check on your property. Some tips on how to protect your pipes from the winter cold: Heat, warmth offers the best protection against frozen pipes, so when temperatures are low leave your heating on a low setting or set it to come on a couple of times a day. Insulate, pipes don't like the cold - whether they are outdoor or indoor, metal or plastic, new or old. Making sure pipes and water tanks are properly insulated is one of the simplest, and cheapest, things you can do to help protect your property from the cold. Make sure that there are no gaps at bends, valves or fittings, and that you use suitable insulation material a licensed plumber. Protect, if your property is going to be vacant over the winter months, turn off your water supply and DRAIN the system a licensed plumber should be able to give you advice about this. Make sure you know where all your stop taps are located and that they are in good working order including isolation valves on mixers and inlet valves on hot water cylinders.
