25.01.2022 On Friday 26th February, the 2021 AVCLP cohort had the great pleasure of attending their Regional Economy program day at Brown Brothers Winery, Milawa. Through a blend of in-person and online delivery, speakers for the day included Amanda McClaren, Chairperson at Hume Regional Development Australia; Barry Sullivan, Chair, North East Victoria Regional Executive Forum; Matt Nelson, Regional Director Hume, Regional Development Victoria and Dean Carroll, Chief Executive Officer, Brown Family Wine Group. The cohort were able to strengthen their understanding of the North East region, and better grasp current and future opportunities and challenges. Many thanks to Brown Brothers Winery for their generous support of the program, and of course, the wine sampling.

25.01.2022 Rural Australia needs strong leadership in order to develop thriving, connected and resilient communities. Since 1998 the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Pr...ogram (AVCLP) has inspired and assisted hundreds of people to develop their leadership skills, knowledge of the region, and their network of senior management contacts. Tonight we congratulate Rachel Wolfe, for graduating as part of the 2019-2020 cohort. AVCLP encourages and develops leaders across North East Victoria and Border regions that have the capacity to build and contribute to their communities and industry sectors. Rachel has a Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Science (Health Promotion), Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Critical Care) and a Master of Nursing (Education). Rachel has a particular interest in resuscitation training for healthcare providers and first aid training for the community, and she is a co-director of a small nursing education and first aid training company. AVCLP drives community leadership at a local level and helps create opportunity across the region by strengthening leadership capacity across all industry sectors. The Program takes them across the region and beyond to experience first-hand best practice in the factors that contribute to sustainable communities, the innovative projects that are being implemented in our region, and the individuals that drive them. We wish Rachel all the best as she moves forward to implement her new found skills within our community. says David Mayne Chairman, Mansfield & District Community Enterprises Ltd. I would like to sincerely thank the Mansfield & District Community Bank Branch Board and staff for the opportunity this scholarship has provided. I cannot speak highly enough of the program, the program organisers, leadership group and learnings community, professional and personal. I wasn’t aware of how much good is being done in the Alpine Valleys communities. This program has showed me some of what is done behind the scenes and how I can start to action ideas for change/improvement. Rachel Wolfe

23.01.2022 As part of the development of the Community Vision, Council Plan and Budget, the Rural City of Wangaratta (RCOW) has developed a community survey to gather data on what the Wangaratta community sees as the most important areas for the Council to focus on, and to determine how they can best serve their community. The data gathered from the survey will be vital in informing RCOW’s community vision, council plan and budget so it’s important the survey is completed by as many pe...ople as possible to ensure the Council reflects the needs and priorities of the community, particularly those harder to engage voices that we don’t typically hear from. You can complete the survey by clicking on the link below: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/shapeyourcommunity The survey closes at the end of the week.

10.01.2022 "If not you then who? If not now then when?". This quote is a familiar one and often heard by the participants of the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program. It was echoed again on Friday the 7th of August when the current cohort had their Leadership in Government day. Due to be in Canberra for their scheduled study tour, the group instead met online with local leaders representing all 3 tiers of government including a panel session with #cityofwodonga Mayor Cr Anna Spe...edie, #alburycity Mayor Cr Kevin Mack, #indigoshire Mayor Cr Jenny O'Connor, a session with Member for the Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy MP, a great discussion with Cathy McGowan and a candid chat with Member for Indi, Helen Haines MP. We are so grateful to all six of our own local representatives, who gave their precious time to support, encourage and contribute to the development of our leaders. See more

05.01.2022 Leadership skills and styles are continually changing and adapting to meet the demands of many factors, such as the social, legal and ethical implications of the day and age. As an example: what was good in 1880 probably wouldn’t hold so fast in 1990. To meet the needs of the new COVID normal world of 2020 and beyond, we are now seeing the emergence of the avocado leader Possibly a new term for a style of leadership that has been gaining popularity over the last decade, the avocado leader is a reflection of our leadership evolution: embracing empathy and emotional intelligence as a vital resource in the leadership toolbox. 02.01.2022 Today, we pause. We look back at the accomplishments of those that went before us, and look ahead and contemplate the possibilities of those that will carry us forward. We rejoice for both the visible progress, and the invisible: for every highly publicised, criticised or lauded act in history, there were just as many that went without fanfare the weekly meetings, the petitions, the steady voices of women of the everyday: rising up to assert their rightful place in society.... We at AVCL are truly so proud to be an all women team of staff. We share a bond of warmth and strength that comes without barriers or borders, an intimacy and understanding that we often find in one another, as a reflection of ourselves. We are humbled to have the opportunity to exist in this era, where change has been and continues to be achieved. AVCL’s work contributes to the wider, collective efforts of all. On International Women’s Day, we #choosetochallenge and we also #choosetocelebrate.
