16.01.2022 Ever wondered what a Barn Owl’s ear hole looks like? Of course you have! Barn owls have incredibly finely tuned ears which are positioned asymmetrically on their heads. This allows them to distinguish the timing of sounds arriving at each ear to a high degree of accuracy- they are able to locate prey in complete darkness This beautiful owl was examined and treated in hospital last week and is now in care with a WIRES raptor specialist

16.01.2022 So this is our big news. Webster is a new boy, about 10 months old, who was found abandoned at the beginning of last week. At first we tried him in kindy but h...e was a little bit too young and the other kids ran away from his desperate cries. As he was crying, we noticed that Charlotte was very interested and trying to get closer to Webster in the adjacent enclosure. So we tried something. We placed Webster in the permanent run with Lauren and Charlotte. Lauren was entirely unhappy about this noisy boy but not Charlotte. She rushed over to him and offered him her back. He climbed on and they've been together ever since. Webster is still going home at night to give Charlotte a break (we don't want her hips to suffer) but every morning, it's the same thing. She can't wait to get to him and he can't wait to be with her. Charlotte offering herself as a surrogate could not have come as more of a surprise. To say we've been emotional about this would be an understatement. I think more happy tears have been shed here this week than ever before. There will be a video of all this unfolding, but for now, please enjoy our photos. We wouldn't be able to do this work without the amazing support of our sponsors. @ifawglobal @ifawaustralia@wwf_australia @santosorganics @simplycleanhome @heska_au #friendsofthekoala #koala #koalas #joeys #koalarescue #koalacare #omg #charlotte #webster #charlotteisamum #charlotteandwebster #surrogatemother #happytears #cantbelieveit #savethekoala See more
