24.01.2022 I have never been so disgusted and mad in my life. Today at JB HiFi Mt Ommaney, when my dad and my brother (who has Downs syndrome) entered the store the secur...ity guard immediately stepped in front of my brother and said that he wasnt allowed in the store. My dad, confused, asked "Why not?" and the security guard said that he had my brothers photo and he wasnt allowed in. My dad asked to see the manager and while he is being called, the security guard goes through his phone to find a photo of the young man that they think is my brother. When my dad and the manager are shown a photo of a white male who also had Downs syndrome, my dad says its clearly not James, who has olive skin, and the manager replied "well they look the same". Despite the evidence that my brother had been mistaken for another young man, the manager still refused to let him in. By this stage James, the sweetest boy who is still in love with The Wiggles and Ben 10, was visibly upset at what was happening and my dad took him home. Mum called up the manager of the store, demanding that he apologize to her son, to which he replied that "he would never, ever, ever get an apology" from him and that he had "the right to stop anyone he pleased from entering the store". Please, if you are also disgusted by the discrimination shown to James, share this and take a stand against bullying and ignorance. EDIT 29/10/18: Sorry if this notifies everyone but since this is still getting comments and shares 3 years on Im updating this to reflect the outcome. We got a lot of media coverage when this happened and as a result of that, my brother and Dad received an apology from the manager of the store and the CEO. The security guard worked for a different company and we never had any contact with him, but he was doing his job according to JB HiFi procedures. Despite several commenters indicating otherwise, neither the manager or the security guard were sacked/demoted/punished in any way or form. I have no idea if JB has updated their policies/procedures in regards to how they store information about banned customers and I dont know if the same manager is at the Mt Ommaney branch but regardless, I dont condone any harassment or abuse of him or any other JB staff. Most importantly (well, for me) James is still his happy, cheeky self. Hes a ray of sunshine in our lives and if anyone else tries to take that away from him, Ill happily go to war, again. 23.01.2022 Special Announcement. As of 7th may Alternative Aspect Media will join Inclusive Option Encorparate as part of their social program department . We are excited to Join Inclusive Option, which is a newly formed grass roots non for profit organisation focused on delivering multiple service to NDIS participants in the Geelong Area. Alternative Aspect Media and Inclusive Option Tenancy Support are the first two programs starting on Monday 7th May . For more information email [email protected] . The classes are small in size and cater for the needs of all knowledge levels. Classes will have a support worker assisting during class. We are proud of our members constantly trying to innovate in areas to help people build capacity for those who require assistance. Well done to all involved

Peter got these guys o...ut of their homes, got them meeting together and producing projects that they love eg videos, youtubes and games. Peter has now founded Inclusive Option. a not for profit grass roots, #NDIS accredited organisation. Peter has worked in the disability field for 15 years, he has gathered a team from multiple areas of the community services sector and has brought them together to form a team of professionals, who with their experiences, can provide exceptional services to those with disabilities. It works with people with a disability to provide them with experience in the media field. Multiple people involved in this program have gone on to gain employment from this experience." Tenancy Support is another service were providing. It assists people with a disability to find accommodation and remain in accommodation, so people do not become homeless. It also provides skill development, helping people with a disability to learn what is required around their tenancy responsibilities. Once these programs are fully operational, other programs like The little butterfly program about socializing for kids on the autism spectrum are waiting to start. In a few months we hope to have a Mens Group up and running where the guys can have a meal together and create friendships and networks. We are on our way to offering fair work wages.
