You can follow the Queensland Human Rights Commission on Facebook or Instagram for their daily #HRM2020 posts explaining what the rights protected by the Act cover, examples of where the Act is being used in Queensland, and answers to some of the most common questions we're asked about the rights and the Act. 19.01.2022 Althea Project is proud to let you know that yesterday (17 September 2020) we held the launch of our 2nd Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Aunty Dorothy Savage welcomed us to Country and Jenny Savage and Fred Lemson from Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service were our guest speakers who shared information about the Hope and Healing Camps and the role Althea Projects plays in the success of these camps. Reconciliation is at the heart of our programs ...and as an organisation one of our key values is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with opportunities to participate and thrive in their life. With Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people making up more than half of the people who access our services, it is critically important that we have genuine and authentic partnerships and engagement opportunities to implement culturally safe approaches in all that we do. Our RAP provides us with a strong framework to guide us to achieve this. This is not just an attractive booklet. We work hard to ensure the actions and deliverables we have outlined in our RAP is something we do not lose focus on. Our RAP has been successfully guiding our work for many years, but there is still more to do. Our RAP will guide us to be active, visible and accountable in our endeavors to play our role in a reconciled community. We acknowledge and thank Michelle Tyhuis, from The Bullroarer Connecting Through Culture for the refreshed RAP artwork and graphic design & layout of our RAP publication. 03.01.2022 People can become homeless for many reasons and the effects of being homeless are devastating. 2020 has proven that any of us can be affected at any time by changing circumstances and access to support has become more important than ever. The generosity of Good 360 has assisted our organisation to provide hygiene products to some of the most disadvantaged in our community, handing someone a bag of toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and soap is a small token to many but for someone needing these items it is representative of giving them back some dignity, allowing them to feel valued into a community where they often feel invisible. Thank you Good 360, your goods for the greater good are really making a difference.
