25.01.2022 ALTONA GATORS REP READY PROGRAM & 2021 TRYOUTS Hi Pirates, please see some details below from the Altona Gators for their REP READY Program, and also information on 2021 TRYOUTS!... If any information is needed on either opportunity, please feel free to contact Kate at [email protected] --- 2021 VJBL TRYOUTS - GATORS At this stage, due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to confirm the exact dates for junior try-outs however they are likely to occur prior to the end of the year. We are requesting players who are interested to try-out registered at the following link: https://forms.gle/dnggBc6DtJutM6CNA REP READY PROGRAM For players who have not previously played representative basketball, we are running a Rep Ready Program. This is an annual program run by experienced Altona Gators Coaches for Under 12 and 14 boys and girls looking to take their basketball to the next level and get rep ready. It provides a great opportunity for domestic players to undertake specialist training and gain an understanding of representative basketball. The program will enhance players’ fundamental skills, decision making and game play and expose them to elite level training methods. Even if players are not entirely sure they wish to try-out, they are welcome to attend the program. The masks are a 3-Ply reusable/washable material and meet current DHHS requirements. 22.01.2022 Repost via Altona Gators Basketball Club below Congratulations to former Pirate Kayla Salmons! Best of luck with your journey ahead! ... ----- Well Gators Family, join us (again) in congratulating another Gators junior on signing her National Letter of Intent! This time it is Kayla Salmons who recently signed to attend university and play basketball for Idaho State University. Kayla was a part of a State Development Program from 2017-2020. She represented Victoria in the Australian National Championship (ANC) where her team earned the Gold Medal in 2019 and the Bronze Medal in 2020. During the 2020 ANC, she ranked top 10 in scoring with 10.86 points per game while shooting 62 percent from the field. She would also go on to rank top three in rebounds per game with 8.43 per game. She was a 2x MVP for Altona Gators in U18's (2018-19) and the Best Defensive Player for Altona Gators Youth League (2019). Make sure you come down and support Kayla and all of the Youth League Women when the season starts next March. Kayla will head off to Pocatello, Idaho next July to play in the Big Sky conference for Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. 19.01.2022 2021 SEASON UPDATE - RETURN DATE Hi Pirates, We are extremely glad to share news and a return date of basketball competition at the Altona Sports Centre.... As in the picture, the proposed date to return is from Friday the 29th of January, 2021. From this date, a 5 week grading period will take place, which will help place teams in correct divisions of competition (knowing the absence from sport and also potential team changes). At the conclusion of these 5 weeks, a regular Winter season will recommence from mid March, 2021. This is very welcome news to our basketball community, as we start to plan to get back on the court in the very near future. We envision that there will be updates to training and registrations in the coming weeks, so please keep an eye out for these very soon. The Pirates Committee

Check out Cameron's profile below! Cameron stared playing basketball with the Pirates in the 2017 Winter season with the Under 10 Bandits. Over the course of 8 seasons, he has played a total 77 games with the Pirates. Since his first season, Cameron played with the Under 10 and Under 12 Bandits for a total of 5 seasons, until the 2019 Winter season. He then joined the Under 12 Stealers at the start of the 2019/2020 Summer season and is into his third season with the Stealers in Under 14’s for 2021. How old are you? I’m 12 Do you have any nicknames? Cam, Camo Do you have any pets? Yes, 2 dogs - Marley and Arlo What are some of your favourite hobbies? How would your coach or teammates describe you as a player (either on or off the court)? I think they would describe me on court as focused, and off court as a good listener. Do you have a favourite basketball memory or achievement with the Pirates? Getting into the grand final even though we lost it was a close game. It was great to make it that far.

16.01.2022 RETURN TO SPORT UPDATE - FROM 27TH OCTOBER 2020 Hi Pirates Community, The recent easing of restrictions announced by the Victorian Government and DHHS for Metropolitan Melbourne have included some positive news for the return of sport in the near future.... As a small update, Basketball Victoria has updated their Return To Sport Guidelines following these announcements. As of the 28th October, no indoor competition or training is permitted similarly to the previous restrictions. However, outdoor (contact) training and competition is now permitted for participants under 18 years of age, with a maximum of 10 players per team and 20 players per court space. This follows their ORANGE-20 reactivation status level. From the 9th of November, indoor (non-contact) training only is permitted for participants under 18 years of age. The outdoor (contact) training opportunity also remains in place. From this date, the ORANGE-20 reactivation status level remains in place. These updates have been very well received and is great news for the gradual return of sport. As we received further news and updates, we will ensure to highlight these across our social channels and communications to all players and families. For now, the Altona Sports Centre will be offering outdoor conditioning training and wellbeing sessions for participants interested to participate very shortly. 14.01.2022 Altona Sports Centre will be offering Altona Junior Domestic & Representative players the opportunity to return to Basketball in a 6-week conditioning program. ... The program will be under the professional guidance of NBL Hall of Famer Lanard Copeland. The program will commence on Monday 9th November . Each player can register for and attend only 1 session per week (6 total sessions) for $60 total. The sessions will be 45 minutes with 15 additional minutes allowed for cleaning and groups to exit (as per Covid safe guidelines) Age groups determined by age at 31/12/2020 Register at www.altonabasketball.com.au

07.01.2022 2021 BASKETBALL SEASON - COMING SOON Hello Pirates, With the recent easing of restrictions that have been undertaken in Metropolitan Melbourne, we are glad to announce that the Altona Sports Centre is currently deciding on a resumption season from early next year in 2021.... This indeed has been a long time coming, and we will share updates on the topic once it comes through to us.
