17.01.2022 There's been a huge influx of home educators as a result of COVID19. Not just isolation schoolers (those doing it just for the duration), but also many, many families making the switch to homeschooling permanently, with COVID19 just being the tipping point. "It’s been painful for my husband and me to realize that in the years leading up to this pandemic, he [their son] was driven to exhaustion every day. But, we thought, doesn’t everyone hate school from time to time? Isn’t every teenager tired? So we nudged him back onto the hamster wheel, assuming that was the alternative to becoming helicopter parents who cushion and coddle their kids into lifelong dependency. We never questioned whether we were pushing him into suffering. Now we have to ask: Will we do it again when his school reopens?"

15.01.2022 We worked through Story of the World Volume 1 this year, and the kids did the colouring pages while listening. It's amazing the random facts they come out with, having absorbed it all so well, and they love the learning format, often asking for SOTW and cheering when I suggest we do some.
