19.01.2022 WEARING THE SECOND SKIN // semester two, year two; garment 2 The purpose of the rusty looking door and the wood shed is to highlight the distressed denim and the idea it softens and breaks down becoming part of the skin. The wood colour and the log colour accentuate the skin and the natural aesthetic. Instead of emphasising the blue of the denim I wanted to show the skin and the way denim moulds to it rather than just showcasing the colour of the denim. 13.01.2022 What influenced me to show how femininity is versatile and the role clothes play in how we construct gender is the story of Maud Butler. She was a middle class girl who wanted to help out in the First World War as a nurse but wouldnt be able to apply for training. Instead of waiting she put on the male army war uniform and passed herself off as an army soldier. The colour of her boots gave her away; she recognised gender is behaviour, performance and perception. I started with the male jacket to nuance the female silhouette when put back on the female body but also show that gendered archetypes on fashion are also fluid @ Fawkner Park. Sth Yarra

11.01.2022 La Femme// showing the versatility of femininity through performance and perception and the role our clothes play in the construction of this. My jacket pattern is derived from the mens block to reference the army jacket and how it was made for mens bodies but use that and mould it to the female body on the mannequin. With additional volume in this block I reconstructed the feminine archetype of elegance by tucking in the volume at the waist. The typical feminine shape i...s nuanced by the organic tucking and also through the process of being made from a larger form instead of making the garment in the shape of the womans body from the start Shoot #1 elegant femininity Photographer: Alyse Salib and Raina Krayyem Model: Isabelle Salib Stylist: Alyse Salib Makeup: Alyse Salib See more

05.01.2022 WEARING THE SECOND SKIN // semester two year two; garment 2 The second garment shows the way denim slowly becomes skin. Through the use of lighter denim, the distressing of the denim making it softer while revealing the coffee dyed under structure representing the skin it references the process of the deterioration of our own denim moulding and becoming our skin as it does through each use. I used the coffee dye and coffee dyed canvas under structure to show the process in a... visual sense from garment one, the denim corset that starts the unzipping to show the skin underneath to the second corset to become the skin. The second corset highlights the way denim moulds to the skin and takes on its own individual identity as that pair of jeans with a certain smell, certain marks and holes and picked surfaces as well as unique indentations to the way its been worn and moulds to its wearer(s).
