25.01.2022 Well done Wales!

12.01.2022 Six weeks into 2021 and I’m back in hospital. Trying to mix it with the young kids playing footy. Ouch.

07.01.2022 What a year. 2020 started off for me with two surgeries to fix my old back. All good there, except somehow I developed a massive hernia on the front incision. Then 'the Rona' struck. As I live in Australia, I couldn't easily visit the city to have if fixed, and as it wasn't 'life threatening', there was no need to worry about it too much anyway. Along came July and the second school holidays here and I got the go ahead to have my hernia fixed. Easy enough, they rip me open ag...ain, stitch in some fly wire (fly screen) (not really, but pretty close), to hold my guts together. After that surgery (my third hospital stay this year), my wife and I went off exploring the north of WA to visit our son. All okay so far, except my tummy started swelling and I wasn't really feeling too hot. The guts kept swelling and I started feeling worse and worse. After two weeks (three days before the school term started), I had to bite the bullet and sent the surgeon a picture of my stomach. She (on her birthday and a Saturday no less) said "come in and I'll drain the fluid, it's probably just built up serum". Yeah, okay. So we drove three hours to the office and she stuck this big-arse needle in my gut (which I didn't feel) and our comes a syringe full of blood. Then another, and another, and another. 800 mls later, she told my wife and I that she was going to take me to the hospital. Herself. On her birthday. She made sure I was admitted (to a private room no less) while my wife went off and had her hair done. Many tests were run and it turns out I had a nasty infection that was causing the internal bleeding, so I was started on I.V. antibiotics. This continued for 4 weeks and I was in the hospital AGAIN for another week! So, here we are, almost October and I am on antibiotic tablets for the next 5 months at least. When I asked the surgeon how sick I really was, she said if I waited another 12 hours, we may not be having the conversation. Lucky me. 2020 sucks, but all is good here. In two days, my wife and I will again make the big road trip up to the Pilbarra in West Oz. Hopefully no hospital stays this time! G

04.01.2022 Last week I lost a friend I never met. Raimo Leino from Helsinki, Finland, a master modeller and great person. Although we never met face-to-face, I felt I knew you. Your sense of humour, your passion and skill at modelling, your kind smile, and your love for your wife and family all made me admire and like a man I never met. We had conversation here and there and you treated me as though I were a friend of yours, the same way you treated so many fellow modellers. Facebook c...an be a very toxic place but you reminded us of the good that can come from a social media platform. When I saw that you had passed, my reaction was immediate, I had lost a friend that I assumed would be around for a many more years of building, laughing, drinking Spitfire and enjoying your days at the cabin with your lovely wife. I’m sorry for your wife and family, I hope God will stay close to them as they grieve your loss. Peace to you Raimo, we have lost a good human being at a time when we cannot afford to lose the best amongst us. Love and Light my friend, you are missed and loved. RIP Raimo Leino See more
