23.01.2022 Rounded Shoulders Posture...... What is rounded shoulders?? Seen in the picture below rounded shoulder is an unnatural posture characterised by an exaggerated curvature of the upper back, often a forward positioning of the head where the shoulder girdle is protracted, and a thoracic kyphosis and the shoulders rotated inwards ( internally rotated) How can you tell if you have this posture?? ... Testing time :) Stand up really without thinking about your posture relax and stand how you would normally. Now look at the position of your thumbs.... Are they facing forward or are they facing each other?? If they are facing each other the reason is because your shoulders are too rounded... Dont stress because this is unfortunately a normal posture due being on our phones, on the computer or sitting down for prolonged periods. The muscles that are weak and tight are characterised by Upper Cross Syndrome because of they way the cross each other looks like an X. In simple terms its a thighness through Chest and Neck/shoulder region and weakness in the Back and Scapular and Anterior Neck. Which muscles are short and tight?? Subscapularis, Levator scapular, Upper Traps the Pec Minor muscle. Which muscles are weak and need strengthening ?? Serratus Anterior, Levator Scapular, Lower Traps, Rhomboids and Rotator Cuff and deep neck flexors. In my next post i will show how to stretch the tight muscles the ones that cause most concern are subscap and pec minor as they cause internal rotation of the shoulder. Stretch and Mobilise a particlaur joint and strengthen the weak muscles which are external rotators. (Serratus anterior, Lower traps, Rhomboids and Rotator cuff ) in easy steps.
22.01.2022 Hey will be posting my Rounded Shoulder Posture video hopefully by the end of this week :) Bookings this Saturday and next Monday 9:30am to 12:30pm.
22.01.2022 Note it is always better to do self treatment first then stretch afterwards :) Foam rolling Ql- IS A NO..... why you may ask?? The foam roller is very wide and trying to fit the foam roller between the ribs and hip bone and it is a very deep muscle. If you foam roll you will only be getting the Erectors spine group which is superficial. If you choose to use a foam roller it will just cause you discomfort as it will mainly just hurt your lower ribs. ... What can i use then?? Tennis Ball- YESS Preferably a tennis ball it has more bounce therefore it can compress more with weight when you lay on it. Spikey ball- depends the person i would say no... why?? Spikes balls are to invasive for the Ql and be painful rather then affective. Always your choice you can choose if you want a more invasavie harder self treatment your choice. Those who are hypersensitive, bruise easy just replace it with a tennis ball. Tennis ball self treatment. To find QL find your hip bone and the 12th ribs and in between both of those lands marks is a gap, where the QL fits. Some people depending on height and body structure the gap will range is size, some will find they can just fit the ball between the gap, others will find they have a lot more room. There are superficial and deep trigger points for Ql. Superficial ones sit more away from the spine one up near the 12th rib and the other directly under that but right above the hip bone. These trigger points will be easier to access. As for the deep ones both close to the spinous process one right in the middle L3-L4 and the other really deep to the spine and corner of hip bone. To get deep into these its important to breathe through this and slowly get deeper into the tissue. ( see in photo below) Lay down on the floor on a flat surface, you can have your knees bent of the floor at 90 degrees or have then at 90 degrees with legs on a chair. Remember that there are other layers of muscle over the top of the QL so laying directly on the ball wont work. Will be Easier to access the Ql if the ball rolls in from the side don't directly put it next to the spine, come away from spine. Move around until you find a sore spot, move up and down or you can even hip hike, ( bringing the hip up so that the space where Ql sits gets smaller or bringing knee to chest into a stretch then relaxing. Relax and try and turn your abs on and push downward towards the floor. Hold for 20- 30 seconds. Woah hold on i am confused on how to do this...???? If you would like to see a video on how the self treatment works please comment or inbox me.

18.01.2022 LBP Quadratus Lumborum ?? Pain that Feels deep that you cant get at?? It is more than likely your QL..... What movements does it perform?? ... Elelvates the 12th rib and assists the digraph in inhalation. Elevates the hip bone, hiking your up upwards towards ribs. Extends lumbar spine. Bending down to the side arm past your knee. Interesting fact about QL. Apart form being a back muscle .The quadratus lumborum is a muscle of the posterior abdominal wall. It is the deepest abdominal muscle and commonly referred to as a back muscle. If muscles like the glutes med and min, TFL are weak the QL will pick up the slack resulting it becoming the prime mover Causing Back pain. Where does the QL attach to?? Attaches to the 12 rib at the top can affect torso movement if tight. Bottom is connected to the pelvis and cause unequal pelvis/ pulling it upwards which causes back pain. Also attaches to the lumbar vertebra the Lower 3-4 How does it get tight?? Sleeping Position- Sleep on side and hiking hip or curl into a ball it will tighten QL. if you sleep on one side all the time the hip facing up will get tight. Or if you like to sit and sit more on one side then the other. Next Post- Stretch, foam rolling and Self massage ( soft tissue work) :)

11.01.2022 Rigid Strapping Tape: This tape allows little to no movement its purpose is to try to restrict movements in injured areas. This tape is more for trying to prevent an injury from re occur during sports/training. Adhesive or rigid tape is often used to help athletes recover from injuries like ligament sprains or to help prevent further injury. It does this by limiting unwanted movement at a joint or offloading specific anatomical structures where a weakness has been identified.... Main purpose of this tape is to: Relieve your pain Improve joint stability Enhance athlete confidence Reduce injury recurrence Prevent injury. See more
11.01.2022 What is the Difference between rock tape and rigid tape?? Rocktape - Key Benefits Of Using RockTape Assists to decrease pain Assists to reduce swelling and bruising... Provides functional support while allowing full range of movement Hypoallergenic no zinc oxide or latex Water resistant can be worn for up to 5 days Key Reasons To Choose RockTape Muscle pain or cramping, Joint pain, Poor posture, Inflammation or bruising,Zinc oxide allergies Unlike rigid tape, which many people find too stiff and restrictive, RockTape is stretchy, as an additional adjunct to treat injuries, by reducing pain and accelerating recovery. RockTape can also enhance performance by improving form and technique, as well as reducing post exercise soreness. When applied correctly, RockTape’s unique elasticity causes the skin to form convolutions and wrinkle. This decompresses the tissue immediately below the skin. It is believed that this has three main effects: Fluid effect- improving blood and lymphatic flow in the taped area Mechanical effect- improving the slide and glide between tissue layers Neurological effect- altering the perception of pain and improving body awareness.
