25.01.2022 What is a root shadow? I know a lot of you have heard this term, but have no idea what it means, so let me break it down for you. This is a term used by stylists that is another way of customising you're colour. Root shadows are a toning service. They are used to blur the line where the lightener stops. They help to create the illusion of a deeper root whilst still allowing the highlights to shimmer through.... Root shadows are a fantastic service to come in for between full colour services. This is a way to stretch out your full colour but still feel fresh and toned. When you create a contrast in depth, your eyes are drawn to the brightness around the face. So who's keen to try a root shadow next time they have highlights? See more

25.01.2022 Do blondes really have more fun? I don't know for sure, but this gorgeous beauty sure is having a great time!

25.01.2022 Unpopular opinion! Dry Shampoo is bad for you! Now stay with me here, whilst 90% of us love dry shampoo too much use can actually be bad for our scalps. ... Dry shampoo will block hair follicles and can build up quickly, stopping our scalp from breathing and being able to grow and nourish our hair. Now I'm not saying don't use Dry Shampoo, but don't use it for longer than 2 days in a row. And after those 2 days make sure you double shampoo. The first shampoo will remove the build up and the second shampoo will cleanse the scalp. Next time you purchase a dry shampoo, come chat to me, I've got one designed specifically to look after your scalp whilst giving you all the benefits you love of Dry Shampoo. See more

24.01.2022 "This is the colour, I never knew how to ask for!" Cue heart explosion. I just love when you fall in love with your hair in my chair.

24.01.2022 One of my favourite colours to create would have to be a lived in blonde. What I love about this service is the dimension you can create in the colour. A lived-in blonde has a slightly deeper root area, this creates a softer grow out, but still leaves plenty of blonde.... We often keep around the face brighter as well, helping you feel blonde. 23.01.2022 Do you ever wish your hair were shinier, softer, easier to style or maybe less frizzy? You wish the colour lasted longer, you didn't get split ends and your styling products actually did what they were supposed to do? I mean what's the point of shampoo, conditioner and the 15 styling products in your bathroom right now if your hair doesn't look unbelievable?... This is why I will always use and recommend Wella. If you are wondering what products might be best for you I will happily create your perfect at home hair care routine. See more

23.01.2022 Have you ever been stuck getting them same colour or cut each time you visit the salon. You'd love a change but have no idea what it is you are after. Or worse still how to communicate what it is you are wanting? I always recommend jumping on Pinterest and searching for hairstyles. Save these to a folder and when you bring them in to me we will discuss what it is you like about that picture. ... I'll also help advise you on the upkeep of your new colour or cut. There are a few ways I will look at upkeep of a style/colour with you. 1. How often you need to visit the salon and the cost of this? 2. How long your new style will take to do at home? 3. How this new style/colour fits your lifestyle. Do you like to tie your hair up when you exercise? Do you mind if some parts fall out or need pins to pull back? 4. Is you hair healthy enough to handle this new colour/style? 5. Are you willing to invest in the products to use at home to maintain your new style? Swipe to see our transformation! See more

23.01.2022 Did you know that blonde hair holds and showcases the best curl? Sorry brunettes and red-heads, you know I love you, but it's a fact. All of that extra dimension and that bit of texture that occurs when a clients hair is lightened give way to curls that last longer and look sexier.

22.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to embrace your natural movement? But struggled with where to start or how to do this? Firstly you need to know, that your curl can take time to come back. ... Changing habits and your products will help, but your curl will get better over time. My top tips to get the best from your curls are: - When you shampoo your hair, use an old t-shirt to dry. The fibres in a towel can ruffle the hair which can create frizz - Your hair needs moisture! Make sure you are doing weekly treatments and using leave-in conditioners. I use and recommend the Nutricurls range. (Nutricurls Treatment, Milky Waves) - Use Nutricurls Cleansing Conditioner every time you need to reset or 'wash' your hair. After every third time of doing this you will need to give your hair a good cleanse, this is where you use the Nutricurls Micellar or Wave Shampoo and Conditioner. If you'd love to try any of these products, book in for a complimentary Nutricurls Shampoo and Massage. Or buy them now at www.amandaappleby.com.au/shop See more

18.01.2022 Do you struggle with frizz? Here are my top tips to help reduce those pesky fly aways. - Use a hydrating treatment once a week. I love and use System Professional Hydrate Mask... - Apply a small amount of Eimi Flowing Form this nourishes the cuticles and helps to smooth the hair. - Always use your nozzle on your hairdryer. This helps to direct the air. You always need to make sure you blow-dry your hair in the same direct as your hair shaft. - You will get a smoother finish if you blowdry your hair in sections with a brush before using a heat styling tool. - When using a heat styling tool always use a thermal protectant. Eimi Thermal Image ticks all the boxes. - Finish your style with a drop of System Professional Luxe Oil to smooth and add shine to your hair. All these products can be purchased through my online store www.amandaappleby.com.au/shop Comment below what other tips would help you. See more

14.01.2022 Meet Mackenzie! She'd never curled her hair before. We created this gorgeous soft movement with the Cloud Nine wide iron and brushed them out with the Tangle Teazer Ultimate Brush.... 13.01.2022 Have you ever thought, What the heck does THAT word mean?! I want to be your hair lingo dictionary! There are so many terms floating around for hair techniques. Balayage, foilayage, money piece, root tap, color melt...what do they all mean?!... Let’s start with balayage since that’s a popular question I get from clients in my chair! The word balayage actually comes from the French word balai which means broom and balayer which is the verb of that meaning ‘to broom’ or brooming. Which if you’ve ever had a balayage done makes total sense! When we balayage we are sweeping our color brush over the hair to create a gradual, seamless blend! Because of the sweeping motion, it creates a beautiful, natural looking effect. What other hair lingo do you need defined? Let me know in the comments! See more

05.01.2022 Why you should treat yourself to an insulin treatment: 1. It will add moisture to your hair, making your hair soft and touchable. 2. It helps to extend your colour! When hair is hydrated your colour lasts longer, if your hair is dehydrated the vibrancy and tone disappear a lot quicker.... 3. It's relaxing! We all know just how much tension our scalps can hold. With a good scalp massage you will feel tension release and slip back into a more relaxed mindset. Self-care is more important now then ever. So when you are asked if you'd like a treatment, say yes, it's good for your hair and your soul!

03.01.2022 Somebody asked me recently, "Amanda confess, what do you like colouring better, blondes or brunettes?" Oh my gosh, it feels like an impossible questions! It's like asking me to chose between chocolate brownie or a caramel tart. I'll take the the caramel tart on top of the brownie please! So here's the answer....... My favourite thing about blondes is that no two are ever the same. Creating the perfect blonde to me is truly an art form and I don't think I've ever used the same application and formulation twice. I see every blonde guest as a unique opportunity to create blonde perfection and that is just so fun. My favourite thing about brunettes is the surprise factor. Nobody every just has "brown hair". We've got our gold browns, our coppers, our deep burgundy brunettes. We can do amazing brunette balayages and I love being able to shock and awe with the possibilities. I think most stylist find brunettes kind of dull, but to me it's like an opportunity to really be creative. So as you can see.. the caramel tart and the chocolate brownie...please. See more

01.01.2022 WHOA! Transformation alert. @steph_stafford25 is looking like a blonde babe now, but swipe to see where she started. I've been working with Steph for nearly 6 months to get where we are today. She was a medium brunette when we first met who was dreaming a gorgeous blonde balayage.... If we had tried to go mega blonde all in one shot, her hair would have been brassy, damaged and nearly impossible to style. Instead, we went through a 3 stage journey and Steph was actually surprised by how much she loved each transformation! 01.01.2022 What really makes salon shampoo that much better than the stuff I can get at supermarket? Here are some of the main differences: - When I am recommending you a shampoo, I'm taking in your specific hair and scalp needs, not just buying what's on special, or what you had last time.... - The ingredients! Salon shampoos use high quality ingredients, making sure to protect your hair colour and not strip it. - You won't get silicon build up! If you end up getting a silicon build up it can affect the way your hair colours and holds colour. You can expect to experience not getting the blonde you want, your hair melting when lifting, your colour fades fast. Are you maybe thinking about switching to a professional shampoo now?! At your next appointment, if you’re not already using high quality products, let’s talk about some affordable options that would be perfect (and custom) for your hair! See more
