25.01.2022 Aren't they cute? Here are a few impressions from our Primary and Prep. Level 1 students taking part in our live online classes.

25.01.2022 Welcome to Term 2! Now in our sixth week of Online Classes, our students are going strong! We are so pleased that we are in the position to be able to continue offering our complete timetable of ballet, contemporary, jazz, conditioning, character and improvisation classes - and it is very rewarding to see how focused and enthusiastic our young dancers are, setting goals and working on their placement, strength and flexibility in their home studios. Over the weeks, we have wel...comed many interstate and overseas students into our fold, from as far away as Florida. The strong support of our dance community, not only locally, but around the globe is remarkable. It has also been both exciting and inspiring for our students to have many of the ABDA Alumni join our full-time classes, while they are home in isolation. Following strict social distancing rules, we also welcomed individual studio visits (as our demonstrator) from our graduates Ruby Cross (Royal Ballet School), Joshua Price (San Francisco Ballet) and Nae Kojima (Joffrey Studio Company, Chicago). Although our students are all at home, the spirit and kinship between them is unmistakable - even through a screen! In regards to additional External students: You are still welcome to join our classes, however, this must be with the permission of your current dance teacher. Please contact [email protected] for further details. Photo: Joshua Price and Nae Kojima

24.01.2022 Yesterday, we celebrated our students on the big screen at the Yatala Drive-In! What a unique experience for all of them to experience the end-of-year production together with their parents and friends! Here is a first impression of the production, featuring our tiniest dancers in "Bioluminescence".

24.01.2022 Congratulations to our amazing Full-time student Alissa Kouzmenkov (15), who has just spent a week experiencing the Bachelor of Dance Program at QUT in Brisbane Alissa won this short-term training scholarship at the 2019 Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix, and had a fantastic week immersed in the creativity at QUT.

23.01.2022 We are very proud to announce that our beautiful full-time student Poppi Eccleston (16) will be taking up a full-scholarship in the Bachelor Program at the Dutch National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam from this September! Poppi danced so strongly at the Prix de Lausanne this year, and received some amazing offers from the Directors who saw her during the week in Montreux. Dutch National Ballet Academy was Poppi's favourite school right from the beginning of our European Tour, so we are very excited that she will continue her studies there!

22.01.2022 Congratulations Alicia! We are so proud of our beautiful Full-time student, Alicia Vaseo (17), who has been accepted into the Bachelor Program of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands! Alicia has been training at ABDA since 2016, and we have loved watching her develop into the amazing young dancer she is today. We look forward to following Alicia's journey from here, and are very excited for what the future holds for her ... Photos by Stephan Bollinger and Move Photography

22.01.2022 Ballet Conservatoire Examinations 2020 We are so enormously proud of our 60 students who sat their ballet examinations this week! The countless hours of work in the studio and 12 weeks of dedicated training at home has definitely shown - you were all so well prepared and ready for your exam! Thank you so much to our wonderful teachers, and to the parents for your ongoing support for your children ... And a huge thank you to our beautiful full-time students and graduates who spent 3 days helping with hair, warm-up, stitching ballet ribbons, pinning numbers, playing music - we couldn't have done it without you! We are very grateful that our students were able to sit the 2020 examinations in Live Online sessions with the wonderful examiner and founder of the BC syllabus: Ms Christine Walsh. Congratulations to all!

22.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour: "Prix Finals & Stuttgart" Our last few days have been like a whirlwind! Poppi had a special Networking Class on Saturday morning, for all non-finalists to be seen by the Directors of the Partner Schools.... The Prix de Lausanne Finals on Saturday afternoon were amazing - Jackson danced beautifully and the talent on display was just incredible. We were treated to interlude performances by the Royal Ballet School along with the Prix de Lausanne Choreographic Project, which blew us away. 26 students from 13 Partner Schools had worked with Mauro Bigonzetti for 5 days during the Prix to put together an absolute masterpiece. After the Finals we all relaxed at the After-Party, then us Qld mums and teachers celebrated a little longer at the Montreux Jazz Café across the road, while our students went back to the house to enjoy the Jacuzzi on the terrace! What a fantastic end to our week in Montreux :) Sunday was the Networking Forum back at the theatre, where Jackson and Poppi were able to meet with several Directors from Partner Schools and received some amazing offers! They both have lots to think about over the coming few weeks.. Then we jumped on the train to arrive in Stuttgart early evening ready for classes at the John Cranko School on Monday. The area around the Stuttgart train station is a huge building site (it was 3 years ago too!), so our first impression was not quite so inviting, but we found a lovely part of the city the next day when we went for brunch to celebrate Poppi's 16th Birthday :)

21.01.2022 IMPORTANT information regarding Coronavirus: In line with many schools in Australia, we ask all families who have visited China during the holidays, to provide medical clearance before returning to ABDA. Families who have been in the Wuhan district are asked not to return until Week 3.... We thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

20.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour 2020 "Arrival in Switzerland" Today we left Holland, and flew via Paris to Geneva in Switzerland. There we met up with Jackson's mum and took the train to Montreux (about an hour away), where Poppi's mum had already checked into our beautiful Air B'n'B and sorted out where everything is.... Montreux is a gorgeous little town right on the lake, and our two-storeyed apartment up on the hill is incredible - what a view to wake up to for the next week! We are only a 3-minute bus ride or a 12 minute walk away from the theatre down on the lake, where the Prix will be held for the next 8 days. Off to bed early tonight, with a very exciting week ahead :)

20.01.2022 Super proud of our Fulltime student Jackson Smith-Leishman (15), who is a Bloch Young Artist 2020! https://www.instagram.com/p/B7QQefAgWfs/

19.01.2022 Congratulations Finn! We are super proud of our fantastic Senior student Finn Armstrong (16), who has been awarded a short-term scholarship to the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth, through his participation as a member of the Youth Ensemble 2020 of the Australian Dance Collective! We look forward to the borders re-opening so Finn can take up this amazing opportunity

18.01.2022 The ABDA family wishes you all a very Happy Easter weekend! Over 80 of our own students and dancers from interstate and overseas have been joining our live online training sessions over the Easter break. It is great to see all the happy faces doing what they love! #keepdancing... #stayhome #staysafe #stayhealthy @ Gold Coast, Queensland

17.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour 2020: "Prix de Lausanne Days 2 & 3" The last couple of days have been very busy at the Prix, with classical classes, classical coaching, contemporary classes, contemporary coaching, jury marking..... Poppi and Jackson are loving the experience, and learning so much from the incredible teachers and coaches here: Elisabeth Platel, Patrick Armand, Monique Loudières, Nicolas Le Riche and Armando Braswell just to name a few! With the two candidates we have been busy running between the auditorium balcony on the 3rd floor and Studio 1 on the ground floor to make sure we don't miss anything, keeping ourselves fit too! Yesterday Miss Amanda took Alicia and Devon to see the famous Chateau de Chillon just 10 minutes from the theatre - an amazing medieval castle which was used as inspiration for Disney's "Little Mermaid". We also managed to squeeze in a very fancy coffee with complimentary Swiss chocolates at the Montreux Jazz Café, in the foyer of the very swish Montreux Palace Hotel After another big day of classes and coaching today, we are very much looking forward to seeing the Selections tomorrow morning - tune into the live stream at 6:30pm on Friday (Queensland time).

16.01.2022 Prix de Lausanne: Selections and Finalist results.. We are so proud of our two candidates Poppi Eccleston and Jackson Smith-Leishman, who have had the most incredible week at the Prix so far. They both danced beautifully in the Selections A huge congratulations and Toi Toi Toi to Jackson, who has made the finals!! We are so excited for him, and can’t wait to watch him perform again today, alongside 20 other finalists. Congratulations also the other two Australian finalist...s: Sophie Beaty from the Australian Ballet School and Austen McDonald from Tanya Pearson Academy. Tune in to watch the Finals today at 11pm Qld time!

16.01.2022 LIVE STREAMING STARTING TOMORROW! Now that we have our online video platform ready, we will start with streaming the first classes tomorrow, Saturday. This will allow some of our students to join our classes who are still overseas or are otherwise not able to attend. We are following the development daily, and we'll decide tomorrow if classes should continue on Monday "as normal" (in studio), or if we switch to online classes.... Image: Some of our full-time students getting familiar with our video streaming platform.

16.01.2022 The New Normal Our first two weeks of online classes have been an exciting challenge for us all. All our students from Tiny Tots to Full-Timers have embraced it with a smile! Thank you to our incredible dancers for your hard work and enthusiasm, and a big shout-out to the parents for creating such amazing dance spaces at home.... We love seeing all the happy faces each day! Our classes continue throughout the Easter holidays, because Dancers Never Stop. #keepdancing

15.01.2022 ABDA Europe/Prix Tour "Days 3-5 Amsterdam" Over the past three days our four full-time students have continued their classes at the Dutch National Ballet Academy, where they finished up today. They all really enjoyed their time at this school with it's friendly atmosphere and excellent teachers :)... We have also fitted in rehearsals at the De Hallen Loftstudio in Amsterdam's west, along with a spot of shopping, a canal cruise, and the kids even spent one evening sewing shoes (mums: you should be very proud!).

14.01.2022 Examination Workshop 2020 Over 60 of our beautiful ballet students , took part in our annual examination workshop over the June/July holidays, in preparation for their upcoming Ballet Conservatoire and International Character Dance examinations. We were all very excited to be back in the studio for this event, and begin to polish the exam work.... A huge thank you to our teachers Ariane Murray, Riannon McLean and Layla Burgess, who taught during the two weeks. And thank you to the students for working so hard! The parents (at home on Zoom) and students were also treated to some very special solo performances from some of our seniors/graduates during the final display - thank you Nae, Poppi, Ainsley, Devon and Haylee!

14.01.2022 Christmas fever over, boxing day survived, now it's time to relax and (pretty soon) get back into shape for the new year. Here's another moment from our performance of "Lumino". Don't just stand there, let's get to it. ... Strike a pose, there's nothing to it. Vogue! See more

14.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour "Final week in Germany" The last week of our 2020 Europe Tour was a very busy one! After our day in Stuttgart, we managed to squeeze onto one of the few trains still running (due to sever storms across southern Germany) to reach Munich by 7:30pm Monday night!... Alicia and Devon took their audition class the next morning at the Munich Ballet School. We left the ballet school with snow blowing around our ears! (very exciting for us Aussies) No sooner had we glimpsed Munich, we were back on the train to reach Hamburg by early Tuesday evening. The girls spent two days taking classes at the Hamburg Ballet School, where Poppi also joined us for the second day. Hamburg was extremely cold and windy, but we had a great time briefly exploring the city centre.. I took the girls to the Kryolan store, home to the best stage makeup in Europe, so the girls can't wait to try out their new products at the next Eisteddfod. Meanwhile, Jackson and Leanne spent a few days enjoying the snow in Switzerland, and also fitted in a day trip to visit the La Scala school in Milan. The proximity of all the cities in Europe is such an advantage - one can visit many different cultures and climates within just a few days! The flight home was long and tiring, but we arrived safe and sound on Saturday morning with lots of wonderful experiences to share with our families!

12.01.2022 So proud of our stunning graduate Camryn Jefferson, who has just been offered a full contract with the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, Germany! Camryn trained at ABDA for five years, before moving to Germany to complete her ballet and contemporary training at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden. We wish Camryn a huge Toi Toi Toi for this exciting next step of her dance journey, which begins this September.... Congratulations Camryn! Photo: Pickled Thoughts Photography

12.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour 2020: "Prix de Lausanne Registration Day & Day 1, plus Basel!" The last two days have been very busy for all of us, with the Prix de Lausanne commencing on Sunday.... Registration Day was very exciting for all the candidates, parents, teachers and friends. The 77 candidates were all registered and measured, before heading off for a group photo, a Yoga warm-up class, and a ballet class. Such a wonderful opportunity to learn, observe and grow as young dancers - a week they will treasure forever! Monday morning Miss Amanda and Penny got up early with Alicia and Devon, for the girls to catch the 5:17am (!) train to Basel, for their audition classes at the Ballettschule Basel. The two girls had a great morning at the school, with their results to come in a couple of months once the official auditions have taken place. They were back in Montreux by 6pm, but ready for bed after such a long day! Day 1 of the Prix was busy for Poppi and Jackson: both had classical classes, variation run-through on stage and contemporary classes. They came home exhausted but very happy!

11.01.2022 ABDA Europe/Prix Tour "Day 6 - Amsterdam" Today we were all very excited to catch up with our beautiful students Ainsley Martin and ABDA graduate Georgia Mourant!! Ainsley is on a 3-month internship at the European School of Ballet, and our four students loved taking ballet class again with her at EBS today :)... Jean-Yves Esquerre, the director of the school, also allowed us to watch a rehearsal by the Trainees who will be performing in France next week, which was fantastic. After rehearsing the Prix and audition solos at the EBS studios (which are in the most incredible building - a converted church!), we met up with Georgia at Central Station :) Georgia is in the Bachelor Program at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, just under an hour away from Amsterdam. We enjoyed sharing our stories together over some pretty decent-sized baked potatoes (!) and back at our hostel. A little ABDA reunion here in Amsterdam today xxx

11.01.2022 Dear friends & family as the coronavirus (COVID-19) is taking hold in Australia, the Australian Government has advised that non-essential gatherings should be limited to 500 people. We are doing what we can to keep our studios as virus-free as possible, offering hand sanitizer to all students and disinfecting ballet barres, doorknobs, bathrooms and kitchens daily. As long as schools remain open, so does our studio. But - what happens when schools indeed close and students an...d their families are required to isolate? WE ARE READY FOR SUCH A MOMENT! To maintain a certain level of normalcy, to stay positive, happy & fit in such a situation, we have put resources in place to continue classes online! While designed for our students, we are considering to open our virtual doors to other young dancers as well. We will share more information soon.

09.01.2022 Also so proud of our Fulltime student Kaela Tapper (14), who is part of Team Bloch 2020!

07.01.2022 Congratulations Ruby! We are super proud of our graduate Ruby Cross (17) who has successfully completed the 1st year of Upper School at the Royal Ballet School in London with an Artistic Prize for Progress and Endeavour! A wonderful achievement for an amazing young dancer - definitely one to watch ... We look forward to continue following Ruby's journey in London and wish her all the best for an amazing 2nd year!

07.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wish you all an amazing, joyful and safe 2021. May the new year be filled with love, light and happiness. Image: A screenshot from "Daybreak", part of our end-of-year production "Lumino"... PS: If you'd like to have a look behind the scenes, Stephan has just posted a new episode of his YouTube show SBweekly.tv - in which he is talking about "creating the show" for ABDA. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/i1n2GZBL3R4

07.01.2022 Our online classes are in full swing

07.01.2022 Eleven ABDA students accepted into national associate programs! Congratulations also to Finn Armstrong and Alissa Kouzmenkov, who have both been accepted into the Australian Dance Collective (former Expressions Dance Company) Youth Ensemble 2020. Congratulations to all these students, who will no doubt make the most of these amazing opportunities to extend their themselves.

07.01.2022 STUDENTS JOIN ONLINE CLASSES Today, we started streaming some of our studio classes live and it was great to see students join in from their homes or gardens, from the Gold Coast and as far away as the Netherlands. #dancersneverstop #stayathome #keepthespiritalive

06.01.2022 ABDA Europe Tour "Week 2 - Amsterdam & The Hague" This week we have continued our 'Dutch experience' with three more days of classes at the European School of Ballet, and two days of classes at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, where our beautiful graduate Georgia Mourant is now studying in the Bachelor of Dance program.... We were lucky enough to see a performance by Introdans on the weekend, called "Grupo Sportivo" - it was fabulous! It is easy to see why the Europeans are so involved in the culture, with tickets only 10 Euro for students! There are theaters everywhere and so much to see and do. The students finished up at the European School of Ballet with a very positive meeting with Jean-Yves, and are now enjoying their last day at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. They took three ballet classes plus yoga yesterday, and are looking forward to the Ballet, Pas de Deux and NDT Repertoire classes here today :) We have a very early start tomorrow to catch our 8am flight to Geneva via Paris, but are looking forward to settling into our house in Montreux ready for the Prix week. Greetings to all back at the studio from chilly Holland!

06.01.2022 Congratulations!! The following students have successfully auditioned to gain places in the Australian Ballet School's Interstate Training Program for 2021: Yve-Noelle Bollinger (11) - ITP Level 2... 06.01.2022 Congratulations to our beautiful graduate Henriette Hartl on her acceptance into the Queensland Ballet Pre-Professional Program. We wish Hetty a wonderful year, and look forward to seeing her on stage (Henriette is pictured centre)

06.01.2022 NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT! Even though schools remain open in Australia, at least for now, we've decided to halt all our studio group classes. Nothing is more important to us than the wellbeing of our students and their families. Applying Social Distancing and the required personal distance is difficult to maintain in a dance class. We have therefore decided to stop all in-studio group classes, effective immediately. However, this will not stop us, dancers don't quit, and we are... ready! We start with LIVE ONLINE CLASSES FROM TOMORROW, MONDAY 23rd of March! Later today, all our students and their families will receive detailed information and an updated timetable by email. Stay safe and keep dancing! #stayathome #dancersneverstop #onlineclasses

05.01.2022 We are SO SO proud of our amazing graduate Camryn Jefferson! Toi toi toi for your first season as a professional dancer Cammie!

04.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod solos! Two of our students were thrilled to perform their solos a few weeks ago at the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod 2020. Although very different to any other eisteddfod we have experienced (no audience, but a viewing room, and in a studio, not on stage), we were so grateful to the committee for giving the competitors the chance to dance.... Congratulations to Emma Kennedy and Yve-Noelle Bollinger for dancing so well and embracing the out-of-the ordinary event! Yve-Noelle received the following places: Classical Solo 10 yrs - 2nd place Demi-Character Solo 10 yrs - 2nd place National Solo 10 yrs - 1st place Contemporary Solo 10 yrs - 3rd place Lyrical Solo 10 yrs - Highly Commended Although Emma didn't place in her 11 years solos, we are SO proud of how she danced, and the progress she has made in her performance skills. We look forward to one or two other Eisteddfods coming up in September - fingers crossed they go ahead!

02.01.2022 With a maximum of 20 students/teachers now permitted in the studios, we are still zooming happily, but at the same time welcoming students in small groups back into two of our studios, to train face-to-face. A lot of signage and sanitising stations are in place, to ensure the safety of our ballet family. Thank you to all our students and parents who have shown such incredible support during these challenging times - we are super proud of what our students and teachers have ...achieved in the past 3 months! #keepdancing #dancersneverstop

02.01.2022 #KeepDancing Because Dancers Don't Stop! All our classes are now streamed live online. ABDA students find the links to all available sessions in our members' area.... For interested students of other schools, who are currently not able to train, contact us by email [email protected] . Before contacting us, please talk to your dance teacher first and ask for their approval. #stayhome #stayhealthy
