22.01.2022 Visiting Volcanoes National Park, means you often have to hike for miles up the steep, slippery slopes of the mountain in hopes of finding a family of mountain gorillas. After we hiked for hours, our guide signalled us to be quiet because he spotted a group of these beautiful animals resting ahead. I loved watching this #Silverback enjoy a tranquil moment as I peeked through the dense forest. All four subspecies of #gorillas in the world are either #endangered or critically e...ndangered. We can all make a difference to the future of gorillas like this one by supporting organisations that protect them. In #Rwanda they support a thriving, and well managed tourism industry. The gradual recovery of the #MountainGorilla underlines Rwanda’s commitment to protecting its natural environment over the last few decades. With the historic expansion of Africa’s oldest national park, the nation signals an alternative future for the continent one where it is possible to support a robust economy and maintain biodiversity. 20.01.2022 A new coal mine? Just 10km from Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area?? NO WAY! The area downstream from this proposal is rich in valuable marine life and... habitats. Add your voice today to urge Federal Enviro Minister Sussan Ley to listen to the science and the community and reject this damaging project >> http://bit.ly/NoWaytoNewCoal Government-appointed scientists have warned of significant and irreversible damage to precious Reef ecosystems north of Rockhampton if this colossal coal mine goes ahead. Queensland government has deemed it 'not suitable'. Now it's time for the federal government to stand up for our Reef and say no.

17.01.2022 Schooling Bluestriped grunt (Haemulidae sciurus) fish, photographed exploring the coral reefs of #Cozumel Located in the Caribbean Sea, just off the Yucatan Peninsula, the Mexican government has protected its reefs, with over 85% of these dive sites in the area protected within the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park. Clear warm water, beautiful structure, vibrant coral, diverse sea life, drift diving, I always feel such gratitude when diving the 2nd largest coral reef in... the world. The Mesoamerican reef starts by Cozumel and extends south through the Caribbean. The North Equatorial Current flows to the west just north of the equator. As it approaches the #CaribbeanSea, water is funnelled through the Yucatan Channel where it narrows and gains strength. Right at the mouth of this channel sits the 30mile x 10mile island of Cozumel. The current sculpted the limestone mound of Cozumel into the shape of a torpedo. The sharp, southern tip points directly into the northerly current. The flow splits to either side of the island and reconnects behind the blue, north end. A shallow recirculation zone is formed before the two streams rejoin and head into the Gulf of Mexico. The current brings crystal clear water, feeds mountainous coral reefs, and propels divers along some of the most exquisite walls in the world. Come prepared for the MOADD Mother of All Drift Dives. #divingcozumel #uwphotos #underwaterphotography #coralreef #Blueplanet #UWphoto #ocean #scuba #diving #scubadiving #scubadivinglife #divecompare #MyCozumel #MexicanCaribbean #CozumelScuba #ProtectCozumel #Mexico @amandadezap See more
15.01.2022 The pastel plumage of a #lilacBreastedRoller atop a small branch. These birds are voracious hunters, typically preying on insects and small reptiles spotted from vantage points. Lilac breasted rollers are found throughout eastern and Southern Africa, easily spotted from a distance due to their vibrant feathers. 07.01.2022 Happy WorldWildlifeDay! #Wildlife conservation is a shared responsibility. This years theme is "Sustaining all life on Earth", lets celebrate the special place of wild plants and animals in their many varied and beautiful forms as a component of the world’s biological diversity. #Earth is home to countless species of fauna and flora. This rich diversity, and the billions of years during which its myriad elements have interacted, are precisely what has made our planet in...habitable for all living creatures, including humans. Historically, we have depended on the constant interplay and interlinkages between all elements of the biosphere for all our needs: the air we breathe, the food we eat, the energy we use, and the materials we need for all purposes. However, unsustainable human activities and overexploitation of the species and natural resources that make up the habitats and ecosystems of all wildlife are imperiling the world’s biodiversity. Nearly a quarter of all species are presently at risk of going extinct in the coming decades, and their demise would only speed up the disappearance of countless others. Today is a reminder that all wild animals and plant species are a key components of the world's #biodiversity. There are plenty of ways for you to join in. Whether you take part in big events or the smallest of gatherings, you can help raise awareness of wildlife and promote #conservation and sustainable use! Here are some of our suggestions for this year's celebrations: Get to know the animal and plant species under threat where you live, and find out more on the threats and challenges they and their habitats face, and what can be done to conserve them. Spread the word on social media: share your thoughts and upload a picture of yourself and those closest to you with an action card ( www.wildlifeday.org ) or use their social media kit for inspiration.
