24.01.2022 Hundreds of tiny frogs skimming across the Lilly pads. What a beautiful adventure. First and foremost, the connection with earth and nature, is directly in correlation with the connection to ourselves. I hope all of my paintings reflect this notion. I want it to be clear.. that nature is my perfect metaphor.... 20.01.2022 The humble giraffe keeps visiting me in all forms, except in the flesh haha. Walking down my street, I see a big wall with the giraffe textile pattern, huge tall coconut trees and hues of orange and pink painted in the sundown sky. So I painted a picture of my street. Alongside is the progressive nature of creating and creation! 17.01.2022 Living in such a bubble right now! With everything that's going on in the world, we are lucky to be in the tiny surf town of Arugam Bay, SriLanka. There are afew hundred travellers left in the town from all over the world, and everyone feels like home because we are building community and strong friendships. Together creating markets and workshops, like juggling, macramé making, improv dance, yoga, ukulele and ofcourse lots of family dinners. 08.01.2022 Progress shot from today's efforts, playing with movement. Still life from a more philosophical aspect. A deeper look into what we perceive reality to be and what it actually is. The subject was inspired by a fantastic safari through the savannahs of SriLanka, hundreds and hundreds of local flamingo flocking together as one, then landing to chill in the lake.. just divine!

08.01.2022 Really interesting experimenting with portraiture. Though, trying to make that connection with a reference picture? These thoughts all came through, because let's face it, theres alot of time to think whilst staring at a picture and then painting... I understand that a picture speaks a thousand words, but still.. not sure the painter and viewer are really squeezing the experience for all it's value COULD be worth. Fair enough with portrait references I'll mess around with for...m and style, it's good to practice technique and play, I love it so much, but to create a masterpiece with an imaginary projection from the subject and then express, definitely isn't as authentic as I'd like to be. And frankly when the opportunity does arise, how conditioned would I be to truly make this translation. For me, I really want to capture the story, the history, passion and pain of the subject. I guess the only way is to feel the true projected energy in a real life sitting, get to know and genuinely try understand the sitter. I really do think that to practice this aspect of painting is as equally important as the style in which we develop.. because that's our journey. But wow, to really condition ourselves as artists to feel and translate another person could be one of the most powerful gifts. Wouldn't it be special if we all felt truly understood. For an outrageous example.. and food for thought imagine sitting down to draw a wonderful portrait of a dear friend, once finished, showing the friend a yellow apple with a pair of eyes, nose and lips.. the friend then joyfully gasps, "THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I FEEL" !
