Australias important actions to co...ntain the spread of the Coronavirus will disrupt many of our established traditions and activities. But these disruptions do not change the purpose of Anzac Day. This special day is a chance for each of us, in our own way, to reflect on what service means. It is an opportunity to pause, to remember and pay respects to all Australians who have served and continue to serve our nation, to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to acknowledge those who carry the visible and invisible cost of their service. This Anzac Day my thoughts are with you our Armys people wherever you are, whatever you are doing. You represent the legacy of those who have gone before; you serve to make a difference today; and you shape the future of our great institution. And I am eternally grateful for the support of our families, and acknowledge the sacrifices they make. We need to give this idea momentum Wouldn't it be amazing if the Brisbane Riverfire was cancelled for 2019 and the astronomical amount of money that is wasted on fireworks donated to rural communities that are struggling to survive? With the kick Mother Nature has dished out to regional and rural Queensland since the beginning of the year, I believe there is greater need in the state than a night of extravagant fireworks. It really serves no purpose... apart from entertaining city dwellers. Given the very real struggles communities are having, such as the floods earlier this year in the north, Clifton with no fuel in town, whole towns like Stanthorpe and Warwick almost without water, and the most horrific bushfire season this state has ever seen, there are more worthy causes than an evening of fireworks. Just a thought. Makes sense to me
