06.01.2022 Something I don't think we've had in the shop before... vintage Japanese abacuses, the real McCoy! They're absolutely lovely; smooth timber beads in a lacquered frame. Of course, reading about them sent me flailing down a proverbial rabbit hole - yep, mathematics makes my brain hurt - but the history is fascinating The very earliest reference to an abacus-like counting device appears around 2500BC, and the first archaeological evidence of an abacus can be dated to 600BC. ...And today the abacus also has application to neurological analysis, where it "involves both visuospatial; and visuomotor processing". 04.01.2022 We can't lie, the picturesque streets of Cooma are a little quiet at the moment - and probably about to get a whole lot quieter! We hope that everyone makes smart decisions and stays well but, in the meantime - and because we have SO many amazing treasures in the shop right now - we thought we would bring A Many Splendored Thing to you After all, who doesn't like a little vintage retail therapy?! Hell, some of our pieces have probably stared down a pandemic or two except ma...ybe the Black Death... although, we do have one or two very early 14th Century coins So! On our recent little roadtrip, we found this beautiful 1920's porcelain beer tap pull handle with hand-forged steel hardware and a fabulous brass finial and collar with plenty of dings and dents, each of which must have a zinger of a story to tell. The porcelain is in such good condition, just a wee bit of wear to the colour, it measures 47cm in length, and is priced at $90.
